Filipino Food
I was trying to show Gene a picture if Sisig Fries and of course Xanga is still acting up. So I'm posting this instead.
The caption for Sisig fries (I've never heard of this) reads:
Sisig is a "labour of love" dish. Offal meat (pig's ears and snout) has been boiled, grilled and chopped into fine pieces. Marinated in lemon, vinegar and spices. Topped with Lechon Kawali (pork belly), garlic lemon ailoli and crispy fries.
Some time ago, I visited my cousin and had:
Lumpia (spring rolls). These weren't home made but I couldn't stop eating them.
Pancit Luglug
It's hard to describe the flavour - but it has a rich almost a mild shrimp taste. The sauce is ladled over rice noodles. The sauce was made from scratch and apparently it took many hours. The orange / yellow colour is from Annatto seeds and the sauce has pork / shrimp and some veggies. I had multiple servings.
The whole dish is then topped with hard boiled eggs, chicharon (pork rinds), lemon, green onions, deep fried garlic and I think fried scallions. Drizzle with fish sauce to taste.
For dessert, I had this and I thought it was called halo halo. I Googled it just to see if I got it right but the other halo halo dishes had ice cream. The one I had didn't. The base is coconut milk and evaporated milk. The green and red strips I think are from tapioca?

I have always wanted to try sisig fries (: Lumpia + pancit <3 I have no idea what that is, but I've always wanted to try halo halo. The closest thing I've had is ube ice cream LOL. Ube ice cream <3

sisig fries sounds good. right up my alley. as for the halo halo, we've got something similar here in indonesia, with few other ingredients added. but the base is the same, coconut milk.

I'll be honest. I've never had the chance to try Filipino food. It looks so good though!! Ahhh. I will have to try it someday!
I was stationed in San Diego many years ago. I loved Filipino food. -especially the lumpia. Thanks for the memories

My Sister in law made lumpia once. She is Filipino. But the in-laws family devoured it before i could get one. I will have to look for a shop sometime.
@rudyhou - Halo-Halo is not coconut milk based. It's just shaved ice and milk :) The Halo-Halo with coconut milk is Ginataang Halo-Halo - it's different. :)
I just saw this. :) I've never had Sisig Fries before but I'd surely try it out. I love "Sizzling Sisig" (sisig on hot plate) but it's so not healthy. Cholesterol overload. Haha But Filipino food is not known to be healthy anyway. I love Lumpia but my favorite is Fresh Lumpia. The one with vegetables and topped with peanut sauce. :D Never had Pancit Luglug. LOL But I love pancit in general. And that dessert is different from the Halo-Halo you're referring to. The usual halo-halo is just shaved ice and milk with some stuff in it like banana's, yam, leche flan, jelly, tapioca, etc. The one you had is called "Ginataang Halo-Halo" (Ginataan means coconut milk based). :D

I love Filipino food! I'm biased because I'm a Filipina. lol! Anyway, I've eaten sisig and it's yummy, but not mixed with fries. Note to self: Must try sisig fries. This is making me so hungry!!!
My mother is Filipino. I grew up eating most of those dishes.

I have eaten the lumpia and the pancit sans the pork of course. The family uses chicken and turkey instead. The dessert is unbelievable. I know exactly how it tastes. I had it in a THAI restaurant in St. Louis. The friend who took us there asked for "aalo aalo". I have gone to other Thai places and have asked for this dessert and they look at me like I am crazy. So I should go back to The King and I in St. Louis I suppose.
Those egg rolls.... they look fantastic. They remind me of mexican food.... God I miss mexican food :(
@Fatcat723 - you're right, it's a lot of food. I sometimes loose self control and am like a hungry bear on a stream gorging myself on salmon.
@BenelliMan - labour is spelled wrong? hahaha... everytime I email my colleagues in the US, I make sure all my words have the Canadian (actually British) spelling.
@hilabpartnerxD - oh, ube ice cream is wonderful!
@StupidSystemus - there are a few Filipino restaurants here and you can buy party size trays of food. I hope this is making you drool even more.
haven't had filipino food in such a long time... lumpia is so good! and pancit... mm... it all looks delicious.
