When I was a kid, I always wished for a snowstorm such as the one we just had. My brother and I would have a blast shoveling the snow off our driveway. We always had fun and it never felt like a chore. The first winter we had here, my mom came out to shovel the driveway with us because she heard us laughing. She was also curious about the snow as she only saw it once in her life prior to coming to Canada.
Usually my brother and I would lob snowballs at each other across the garage. One of us would be in the back and one would be in the front. They always fell harmlessly and we usually sneak around the garage and unleash a frontal assault. My sister called me this morning to let me know that my brother came by twice to help shovel the driveway. What used to be a game has become a chore and that's understandable.
I just kinda wished that I was there with my brother again today shoveling our driveway and maybe tossing a few snowballs at each other.

ryc: thanks for your comments and support!!
we were wishing for snow before too till i have seen pics and heard stories from relatives.
I think it is funny that what as adults we find a chore as kids we found as fun. MM something to think about.
that's something i've never really got a chance to do, as a kid or otherwise -- i've never gotten to have a snowball fight with anyone.
it really is the small things in life that we find we cherish the most.
oh yes, what a brilliant idea Matt! ... you and your brother can head over and shovel my driveway please and toss all the snowballs you want at each other ... I'll be home by 4pm and expect it done
thanks
It's so nice to have you back again Matt. Your photos are terrific, your writing is so very good! Yes, eventually we all part with our possessions. It was kind of you & your siblings to let Dad keep his books. We lost all our books several years ago, and I miss them, especially the reference books. I love books. Speaking of snow, we have maybe 15" accumulated outside now. I'll be shoveling again today, but it's not so much a chore as an excuse to get outside in the fresh air and get some exercise! Have a great day! -duckworth
I remember my first day of snow, I was a freshman in college. I was playing around on the computer when I noticed the drifting flurries being carried across our dorm courtyard. I raced downstairs and stood on a bench and gazed upward as flurry turned into a downpour of snowflakes. My roommate walked through the courtyard and right away noticed me staring up into the sky. My frozen Hawaiian ass had been outside for more than an hour, mesmerized.
ryc: nope not yet but you know how we celebrate it here. it's like weeks long.
I have very similiar memories with my brother. When we were kids, we would build snowforts in the front yard with all the snow that was shoveled off the driveway onto the lawn. Then we'd curl up in the "rooms" that we made inside and wait for my mom to come home. *SIGH* What great memories. Wish I was a kid again with no cares in the world!
It is good for us to remember how we looked at the world with such wonder and optimism when we were children and, at least sometimes, to try and tap back into those feelings as adults.
Where in Canada are you?
lol, yeah we got lots of snow as well. I dont know how to make a good snowball maybe you could teach me.
RYC: You are correct about so many different approaches to everything in life. When I get my thoughts together I may tackle the problem of so many gods.
I love memories about my sisters ....we had some fantastic times together and helped each other through other times....I had a giggle when you said you liked shoveling snow...I'm guessing y'all had a small driveway
I wish you could have been there with them shoveling too....blessing... 'Til The Next
Yeah I love my TSX. So now retire in my garage until the winter / salt season is over. Driving my company car Matrix for now.
No snow here...we had some but of course it's all gone.
I haven't gone sledding in a while!
RYC: I like old-fashioned sometimes.
i used to wish it would snow here. the thought of snowstorms and school being canceled always made me wish it snowed, but now that i think about it, i already ain't too fond of the cold weather so i'd probably be hating it if it snowed here. have a great christmas!

such sweet memories. isn't it so beautiful that at certain times in our life they come to surface with unbridled nostagia and passion? Keep writing about these memories.
