Last night, my bf and I spent a wonderful evening at a concert by Jacky Cheung. I’ve never seen him before and I only know 1 of his songs. I think the English translation of the title is One Thousand Heartbreaking Reasons. I heard it once from my bf’s collection of Cantopop. Well, I don’t really know the song but rather then tune. I was quite astounded at Jacky’s voice last night. At times it was husky, almost sultry and it would then be silky smooth. There were times when he spoke to the audience and I could only understand perhaps 30% of what he was saying. Sometimes they would flash the lyrics on the screen as he was singing. I only understood roughly 1 character in every line.
Despite the language barrier, I enjoyed the show very much. I think I paid more attention to the emotion of the song, his voice and the music rather than the lyrics. The only downside to last night was that the batteries to my camera were dead. I should have recharged it but it was charged about 3 weeks ago and I never used it since.
Oh well, at least I had a relaxing time with my bf.
Before the concert started, my bf was jokingly complaining to me that everytime he goes to these things, there’s never a “cutie pie” that sits beside him. I arched my eyebrows and replied, but I sit beside you all the time at these things. We both cracked out laughing while he tried to back track. “I meant, on the other side… hahaha.”
On another note, I’m just indifferent towards Christmas now. I haven’t started my shopping and I have actually no interest. Maybe I’ll start to dream about the ghosts of Christmas as Scrooge did.
Here are some food shots from Chinatown taken some time ago.

Ooh, your boyfriend had to backtrack! Teehee…
my friend is going to Vegas to watch his show this weekend
that man works hard…
hope his voice doesn’t give out again
i wonder if i go on a local market or our chinatown here and get those good shots and keep my cam till i reach home(?).
o man, i enjoy one song of jacky cheung. it was a duet with a local artist here and the title’s In Love With You. i think it became number in asia for some time.
looking at the last picture.. i was telling myself, i believe most of these fruits grow back home. it’s the cone shaped on the left side which i don’t recognize puzzles me. what is it? ($4.99?)
Ummm… I know I’ve been busy and haven’t caught up with you but B/F?? Do tell!! Secondly, why is that poultry orange in the pic? Great pics btw! Lastly I pray your Christmas is filled with joy, love and family….yes it’s time for Christmas… ‘Til The Next
I think that’s one reason I enjoy Korean music so much. Rather than listening to the words the emotion in a song conveys a story to me in my mind. I’m glad you had a great time. Btw, I really love your pics, specifically the tone and colour of the pics. Have a great weekend.
the only time i get exposure to a lot of chinese music is when i am in my friend’s car, since that’s all he ever listens to (pretty much exclusively).
hahaha my bf hasn’t had to backtrack like that yet.
I think Music is kind of like another type of language….
you don’t need to know the lyrics but you will know what is about it by the tune.
Christmas is coming, hopefully you guys will have a wonderful Christmas time together..
Music itself can send many messages. The language is a little icing on the cake so to speak. You can always tell my mood when you here I am playing on the piano. I finally went Christmas shopping – and finished in 3 hours YAYAY
an interesting game would be to figure out where in Chinatown each was taken. I think I know all of them save the 2nd one.
jacky cheung? i thought his voice is not all right?
though i am a chinese, i don’t know some of the food in the picture
Never been to a Jacky concert before — am actually sorely lacking in the Chinese music department although I like it when I do get a chance to listen. Glad to hear you enjoyed his performance, I will definitely keep an eye out next time he is in Vegas.
Jacky’s a great singer, even if you don’t understand the language. I became a fan when I lived in HKG and still listen to his CDs. I think it is just like when you listen to opera; even if you don’t know the words, a true artists can really make the emotion shine through.
Who wants to know the meaning or know the words when you are listening to beautiful music? You just have to sit back and let your soul melt as the strains of heartwarming melodies capture you totally.
