Jaw breaker
I sat down with my dentist for a full checkup recently. After the assistant took a bunch of xrays, he came in and lowered the seat. We did the usual chit chat about the weather, work and women. Well ok, not women. As I opened my mouth, my jaw made a loud *CLICK*. I cringed. He looked down at me bit more intently and said "hmm....". My jaw had started to click recently. It happens especially when I open wide when I'm eating or yawning I wasn't sure what he was going to say. What was he going to ask me?
What have you been sticking in your mouth? Hmm... how would I answer that? Uhmm... I have been eating a lot of corn on the cob? Hmm...
Well, to make a long story short, he recommended that I get a mouth guard. I have this tendency to clench my jaw all the time. I do it all the time at work. He actually mentioned this to me a few years ago when he noticed my molars starting to wear down. But my work insurance didn't cover it. It'll probably set me back around $300 to $400. I think I'll do it. It's a small price to pay. As for the jaw, there's not much that can be done right now. He said for most people, it just becomes an annoying sound.
So if you're in a restaurant and you hear this faint but noticeable clicking sound - look around, chances are that's me.

Ooh I hope the mouth guard helps. I might want to look into something like that -- it can also cause your gums to recede which is something I'm battling with right now.
Hm..if you said that ppl can listen to your clicking in a restaurant then I can imagine how loud it will be =S
Hope the mouth guard works effectively =)
Corn on the cob huh? Hmmmmmm
i had that jaw thing too. it lasted for weeks. at first i was really afraid of that. that's something you don't get to experience every day, right? and as the day passes, the cracking gets stronger. uh-oh.
then i woke up one day with no cracking. thank goodness.
Go see a chiro for jaw adjustment
when i open my mouth wide i kinda feel a click but i don't hear anything. is this a sign of future clicking?

Uhm... this blog is rated PG13?
@ElusiveWords - Is that a question or a statement? Besides, you said it first! LOL
hmm... i recently have been clenching my jaws a lot too. haven't noticed my jaw really clicking much though... i wonder if i need a mouth guard too?
Sounds like we all have the same problem. I clench my teeth when I am stressed and the doc said try to break the habit or it will cost. Good luck, Matt.
never like going to see Dentist, every time you go in, never said your teeth is fine, always tell you that your teeth have problem and ask you to fix it.
Odd - can a chiropractor adjust your jaw back into place?
@christao408 - I really don't know. I saw that comment and it made me a bit nervous. *CLICK*
ryc: yes. i do. all they do is give this poor boy heartache.
LAWL... "What have you been sticking in your mouth?"
@Jx2_66 - a big lumpia?
I would be careful about getting adjustments on the jaw by a chiro. Did your dentist give you an idea how much the mouth gaurds cost? I do not think that they are very expensive.
Like someone ^^^^ above said, the clicking sound usually goes away by itself. Some of my patient sused to complain about that, and they would later come in and say that they didn't have the problem anymore.
Good luck.
ha, ha... that's so funny.
