I deleted a lame entry. Unfortunately Trendyhedonism and Ekin read it and were probably grossed out. Sorry guys...
My bf has been helping me a bit with some investment advice. I have a modest retirement plan and it was time to add some spice to it. I had too much money tied up in cash and money market. I picked up a Canadian bank a few weeks ago and it's been up 6%. I also invested into a mutual fund he recommended and it's just slightly below even. But I knew this one was going to be a bit volatile. He also recommended another mutual fund some time ago and that's up by 14%. I also added an Exchange Traded Fund and that's gone up about 6% too. I'm not rich nor am I a financial whiz. I know more about capital losses than capital gains. It's easy to be greedy and lose money in the stock market. I'm paying a lot more attention to my little retirement fund than before.
I did recommend a stock to him a few years back. Let's just say my recommendations isn't as good as his.
I also made another pre payment my mortgage. Every bit helps reduce the overall amount of interest I have to pay on my mortgage. I'm still not very disciplined about managing my money yet. I'm just taking a few tiny steps in the right direction.

Oooh, now I'm curious about the deleted entry. I'm going to have to bribe Ekin or Trendy. LOL.
Regarding your investments, let me know when I can retire.
@CareyGLY - I read it =P, u wanna know ? LOL
@zozoyork - LOL...was it juicy??
I hear you!.. I have the some problem!
eek; we're supposed to be saving for retirement?.... uh-oh
@CareyGLY - nah... call it "bathroom humor"
@zozoyork - what? how come you're online? Don't you have homework?
@AppsScraps - hahaha, live for today but save for tomorrow too.
Start the journey with one step at a time but start the journey for retirement. I should talk. I go one day at a time!
i know i need to start investing and saving for retirement... but it's rather hard to do it on a student budget!
I am not good at manage money too. I leave it for my bf to take care of it. hee..hee...
Hmmm...I wonder what that entry was about...???
Anyways, money management isn't my forte too but that darn mortgage is coming soon for me too.
@brooklyn2028 - and before your condo is registered, you'll have to pay the developer the "phantom mortgage" too! So if it takes a while for them to register, all that money you saved won't be going to your mortgage. And then there's the maintenance fees, utilities... uhm, hope I didn't scare you!
Yeah, i also wonder what is the entry about. Why did you write it at the first place if you decide to delete it ???
I have some 401K too, so far so good.
Thanks - I feel better today.
@CareyGLY - have something to do with "hair" =P
@ElusiveWords - =P
your bf have some good recommendations for you? i think i need to start investing toward retirement. any good suggestions?
i really need to learn how to invest my money.
@vsan79 - oh it was a very silly attempt at humor. Glad to hear you're feeling better.
@zozoyork - you're sneaky, didn't even leave any footprints... lol
You are young and you have many decades before you retire. You should get a good financial advisor who is home grown and whom you know personally. If that be your bf, well and good.
In medical college they never taught us how to manage money. So I knew didley. Fortunately we found a great man who had retired after being a bank president, and for the last thirty years he has done us good.
Every little bit helps.
RYC: Yepper they are the most difficult but the most rewarding
.
Good for you on the saving and investing. Most people don't get around to that until it's too late.
Can you hear that sound? Yes, I think it is the sound of the crowd, wanting to know what your lame attempt at humor was. "Re-post! Re-post! Re-post!" they roar...
@ElusiveWords - hahaha that proved how cyber I am =P
I second christao408!
Anyways, seems like you have a nice bf who cares about you two's future! I wish I had such good financial discipline!
RYC: Thank you for the thought - I never thought about that being the ultimate test but it sure does make sense.
