Another conversation with Xanga
Xanga: Hi Matt, how’s
it going?Matt: Hi, I’m doing fine thanks.
Xanga: I’ve been meaning to check in with you since you’ve
returned. But I’ve been busy making a
lot of changes on my site. How do you
like them so far?Matt: So far so
good. I really like the Universal Inbox
and the ability to preview my subscriptions.
Did that improve your server performance too?Xanga: You’re asking
a technical question? HAHAHAHA…Matt: Grr… I happen
to understand some of these basic concepts.Xanga: Of course, I
forgot. But didn’t you tell me once that
although you work in I.T., the only thing you know about I.T. is what I.T. stood for? Ok ok just kidding… I don’t worry about system
performance and stuff like that. I have
a team of techies that monitor server performance and stuff like that.Matt: The only pet
peeve I have with you is the layout of the themes. I don’t
like how narrow the layout are in most of the themes. It also makes picture placement a bit tricky
and awkward.Xanga: I see… maybe
some of the designers will change them. So have
you linked back up with all your old subscribers?Matt: Not really, I
think I have reconnected with most of them but not all. But I’ve also found a lot of new Xangas that I
enjoy reading.Xanga: That’s good. Who’s your favorite nowadays?
Matt: Well, that’s
like asking who your favorite child is.
Everyone is different and I like the different styles and perspectives. There are a lot of good writers out
here. I hope you’ll feature more of them
so that others can find out about them.
Sometimes it’s more than the number of comments that matter.Xanga: You’re right
(ed. note: Matt’s always right). Is it my imagination or are you writing less?Matt: I write when I feel
like it and post when it’s ready to post.
But I must admit that the long hours at work continue to take a
toll.Xanga: tsk tsk…. that’s
no fun. You really need to focus on
what’s important in life. You still
enjoy writing?Matt: Yes yes… I
know, I should focus on that. I still
enjoy writing. I also enjoy the sense of
community here although I know the bonds can be somewhat tenuous. You know, I’ve always wondered how much you
can find out about someone just by reading their blogs.Xanga: I just provide
a forum for everyone. I don’t judge them
or vouch for their honesty or their character.
I leave that to you – that’s part of the fun of reading and writing
blogs I suppose.Matt: Yeah I would agree.
Xanga: So I see your
bf now reads your blog.Matt: Yep, it’s a
nice change compared to before. I feel good about it.Xanga: Awww… that’s
good to hear. Hey, it’s getting late,
you better wash up and get some sleep.Matt: Yeah, see you
later.Xanga: Bye Mattie
Matt: The name's Matt.
Xanga: tsk tsk... so grumpy.
Food porn:
This is a simple beef stir fry with carrots and broccoli. I had marinated the beef before. The veggies were all washed the night before. So all I had to do when I got home was to simply cut the veggies and fry everything up with a bit of oyster sauce. It looked better than it tasted though. I think I should have added an onion to counter the saltiness of the oyster sauce.

All good points about Xanga. It would be great for them to fix some of those theme issues!
i hear you about it being hard to find the time to blog. i haven't been posting as much either, because i just don't have the time during the day to stop, sit down, and just write. then again, i also find that i tend to be a much more prolific writer when i'm depressed, so in a way it's a good sign? hahaha i'm strange, i know.
i must have missed something... which one of the fine people who read your site is your bf?
Haha funny entry. I like how you gave Xanga a personality (somewhat cheeky and very agreeable).
John knows about my Xanga as well. He knew from the start. I suppose it's part of the 'me being honest' thing, which I'm crazy about
(it seems to fall on deaf ears with John, though, he never believes what I say)
Hmmm.. I use Xanga purely for selfish reasons though (to whine about my life and hopefully improve it. Hopefully learn more about... life. blah blah)
so xanga is a guy i assume ?
UMMMM.....that looks DELICIOUS. I'm gonna see if I can make that for myself.
Yeah the Xanga themes are pretty difficult. I'm thinking of changing my theme again but I have the fact that you can't be building one behind the scenes.
Love the food porn and yes always add onions!!! Xanga seems to be in competition with the other blogging sites. And some of the changes are not good. Maybe we all need sit down and have a conversation with Xanga.
Odd... Xanga is never so chatty with me.
You're right that the nature of xanga friendships (and those made elsewhere in the blogosphere and internet) can be tenuous. And yet at the same time, there are several people whom I've met through xanga and airliners.net (actually met in person) with whom I've become good friends.
Certainly a blog can offer only one view of a person, but for people who actually put some time, energy and effort into their blogging, that view is often an insightful one.
Hey no updates,
Well hope u have a great weekend big bro.
good point about the themes and exactly why I steered clear of them
