  • I spent most of Fridays glued to my chair at home
working.  I was mentally exhausted when
it finally finished.  I spent most of
Saturdays just relaxing with my bf.  We also took in the Taste of Asia.
It was interesting but very crowded.
As soon as we got close, the unmistakable aroma of “smelly tofu”startled me.  My bf and I looked at each other and
grinned.  I knew we would get into a
debate eventually on what smelled worse, durian (I don’t eat it, he loves it), smelly tofu (we both don't eat it) or cheese (I eat most cheeses, he can’t stand the smell of it especially
    Parmesan).

Smelly tofu - the line up was pretty long.

A close up of the smelly tofu being deep fried.

    More food....

They also had some new cars - not sure why but I guess the dealers were also sponsors.

The Lexus IS F (mmm....vroom, vroom)

    Nissan 350Z (nice...)

    Acura TSX (very interesting...)

There was a group called Grasshopper that played at dusk. I don’t know them except that they are from Hong Kong and were quite big back in the ‘80s and '90s.  I didn’t bring my faster lens since it doesn’t
fit into my old camera bag.  I had to
push these shots to 800 ISO.  I was standing beside a very energetic
middle aged woman. Her arms brushed by my lens a couple of times when she was dancing and her purse was scrunched
against my privates.  So when she jumped
up and down and swayed with the music, I felt it.  I had to squeeze my knapsack in between us for "protection".

I'll probably checkout the Toronto Night Market in a couple of weeks from now.

Overall, a relaxing time with my bf.  I finished the weekend by having dinner with my family.  It was good to laugh with everyone for a while and forget about the pressures of work.

  • Hehe, stinky tofu is so nasty smelling but so tasty!!  Glad you were able to escape the pressures of work for a bit!!

  • Did you see me there?

And are you sure you didn't enjoy that purse up your privates? hehe =P

  • I haven't had a chance to hit Vancouver night market this year. Can't wait to see the night market in TO.
You didn't go to pride TO?

  • Sounds good! I don't think the new TSX looks good.

  • FOOD FOOD - love it. You can be sure I would everything and then be sorry about breaking my diet!!

  • OMG....I am there on that day too....
Too bad I miss the chance meet you and your bf......
Well...hope will see you in Night Market!!!!

  • I enjoy days like that where I can just wander with my bf

and observe people, eat some good food and relax.

We spent this past weekend at chicago pride.

There were a ton of people, and it's such a good feeling

to be surrounded by that kind of support.

Have a great start to the new week,

      *~matthew~*

  • hahaha  stinky tofu and durian...  can you imagine that combination together?  i never thought of cheese as being exceedingly aromatic, but i guess certain types of cheeses can have a strong odor.

i'm glad you got time to relax with your bf...  that's always nice.  i'm spending this weekend up at my bf's dad's place in new hampshire...  we thought about taking a side trip up to canada but *ahem* somebody didn't bother to get their passport (my old one, on the other hand, was still valid) so i guess that won't happen.

  • i saw takoyaki being prepared :)

  • I don't remember my Toronto well anymore...
The night market looks like it's in Scarborough near Pacific Mall

  • Speaking of night markets...
Los Angeles one was cancelled a few years back :-
and now it seems like Vancouver has cancelled it for 2008

I guess night markets don't survive outside of Asia...
    It's too bad...

I remember going to the one in Los Angeles...
    It was a bit sad...
it was done in a corner of a parking lot.  The vendors sold cheap little toys made in China that nobody wanted to buy...
The only thing that remotely resembled night market were the songs in a singing event...
I think it resembled more of a night market from China than from Taiwan or HK
There was no good food at all...

Hopefully things do well in Toronto.  You guys have done the Asian things much better than anywhere else anyway
(I consider Pacific Mall an achievement)

  • Oh, I figured out what was missing in the nightmarkets in LA...
    we had no games
    That's like a China's nightmarket...
no catching gold fish with flimsy paper traps

  • Wow, you had a chance to relax?  Good for you!  I'm tickled by the differences between what "smelly" things you and your boyfriend like or dislike.  Differences in food tastes can be a tricky thing.  Thankfully, Tawn and I both like ice cream.

  • haha...purse against your privates!

  • I like fried tofu.

  • @inchyguy - uhm... purse on privates, definitely a turn off.  lol...

@zozoyork - nah... I had other plans - oh well.

@mmmagination - the front does takes a while to get used to.

@kunhuo42 - speaking of passport, I should get mine renewed.

@gyjcwang - well, we do have a lot of Asians here.  You're right, the night market is near Pacific Mall - good memory.  The Taste of Asia was held just outside Pacific Mall - they shut off the street beside it.

@christao408 - yeah.... thankfully we share a lot of similarities in food though.

@Renatojr3 - I didn't really know what it was, I was walking by and just press the shutter.

@CareyGLY - hahaha - you always have a link to something.

    @Love_Eternal_Desire - it wasn't a fun experience.  Ugh..

@ZSA_MD - same here, but these ones were really smelly.  But I understand they are actually relatively mild compared to others in Asia.

  • I *heart* stinky tofu....had that in Hong Kong frequently! Too bad it's hard to find here in LA....probably too smelly!!

Yeah, I enjoyed relaxing moments like that too, exploring around with my bf! But having a woman's handbag brushing up against your crouch....definitely not!! haha~~

  • There's another Night Market that will happen on July 11and 12 called The Toronto Night Market.  It was the FIRST Night Market held in Toronto (actually Markham) and still remains the flagship Night Market of Toronto.

There will be food (stinky tofu, grilled lamb skewers) and games (including the goldfish game)

It will be held at Metro Square (same location as the past 7 years).

    More info on http://www.torontonightmarket.com

  • @inchyguy - yep, I'll probably be there.

  • hohohoho  stinky tofu... taiwanese, chinese, honkie... still malaysian one rocks!!! =)

  • actually, smelly tofu doesn't stink. it just taste like any fried tofu, nice!

  • can't believe stinky tofu able to make an appearance in canada.  guess there's plenty taiwanese people who live there.
