  • Running for My Life

The heat from the jungle blanketed me like an itchy wool
blanket.  The thorns from the thick undergrowth were like razors.  The pain
from the cuts was made worse by the sweat oozing into the wounds.
The bites from the insects added to the misery.  I stopped and looked behind me but couldn’t
see anything.  The wall of sound
from the animals and insects was loud and eerie.

I wiped the sweat from my brow and continued to plow on.  Suddenly the jungle noise stopped.  I quickly ducked.  I could hear a branches snapping and what
sounded like a stampede.  Within seconds,
I saw a big, angry, ugly hippo running right at me.  I jumped but it was too late.  It hit me at full stride and fireworks
exploded in my eyes.  I struggled back to
my feet and fell again.  It was just
standing there and for a moment, I thought it was snickering at me.

I got to my hands and knees and slowly crawled away while
gasping for air.  It was painful trying
to breath.  My vision started to blur and
I bumped into a tree.  The tree trunk
moved and I looked up.  It was the
biggest elephant I ever saw.  In a split
second, he had me in his trunks, whipped me over his head and slammed me back
to the ground.  I didn’t even have time
to struggle.  I pulled open an eyelid to
take one last look at mother earth.  The
only thing I saw was this huge pile of steaming hot elephant dung dropping on
    me.

My life shouldn’t end like this.  I waited slowly until the dung
    beetles
rolled the steaming hot elephant dung off me.  I struggled to my knees and then to my
feet.  I cried and thanked the Lord for another
chance to live.  I croaked out loud “I
will change my life!”  I took a step
forward but my body wouldn’t move.  I heard
breathing… or rather snorting.  I turned
around slowly.  A gorilla was holding on
to the remnants of my tshirt.  I glared
back defiantly.  The gorilla snorted back
& leaned his head against my face.   I head butted him hoping that would surprise
him.  I was surprised by how hard his
skull was.  He put me in a headlock and
tucked my head underneath his armpit.  The
stench was unbelievable and I started to gag.

My arms flailed against his back but he only tightened his
grip.  I thought my skull would
explode.  I started to black out.  The only thing I could see was some numbers
    in red.  5…4… 3….2…1.

Finally, my workout was over.  I’m sore, stinky, battered and my ass is sore from the squats and lunges.   I hate
    working out.  I really do.

Tonight, I get to do it all over again.

  • @.@” speechless . . .

  • Very witty!  I had to read the weblog again to appreciate what you so cleverly composed.   When I go to the gym next time, when I was in “pain”, I will think of this, hehe.  With all the food I have tasting lately, maybe I should go to the jungle.

  • too deep for me to understand so i read it again…oic…

  • Do you really think all that during your workout? It sounded like a chapter from Jurassic Park. I just grunt!

  • @Fatcat723 - I couldn’t find a way to describe the aches and pain when I crawled out of the gym.  This was the imagery that came to mind.

  • Haha what an elaborate description of a workout. :P   At least one of us is keeping a workout routine.  School is really f*cking with my workouts. :(

  • Wow, intense. The hardest part of workouts is the first couple of sessions. After that it’s a great routine.

  • hahaha  wow… i don’t think my runs are ever that exciting…  usually i just have to dodge mud puddles, pedestrians, and bad drivers!

  • hey mate,, that rocks… very cool

as one who is trying to make it to the gym regularly…

    i understand… ha,

     have a great holiday weekend,

      *~matthew~*

  • Next time when I go to the gym, I’ll try to visualize which animal corresponds to which work out routine!! Have fun!!

  • Jeez Matt, I thought you were having a nightmare, and was waiting for you to wake up. Get going on the work out. The more often you do that, the easier it will become….thats what they say!!

  • that’ll teach you for being fit!

  • wow…your gym workout sounds bad…good luck with that. are you doing it with a trainer?

  • Nah, I don’t believe you.  I think you love the pain.

  • eeuuwww…. gosh, you must really hate working out.

  • @brooklyn2028 - uhm – starting again with working out, this time I hope to stick to it.

@icebladz - no, just the small gym in my condo.  If I had a personal trainer, he/she would make sure my arms were so tired, I couldn’t even type an entry.

@christao408 - hahaha… bring on the whips and chains!

@rudyhou - the aches and pains and the soreness – too bad there isn’t a pill I can take.

@AppsScraps - well, trying to get back into shape.

@kunhuo42 - I have to get some new New Balance and maybe some running gear too.  I envy you sometimes when you can just go out and run 5K without breaking a sweat.

    @chrispycrunch - I hope it pays off.

  • @ElusiveWords - well, i don’t know about running a 5K and not breaking a sweat….  the last couple of days that’s about as far as i ran.  i really need to get in some more long runs to get my endurance back up…  it’s nearly time to start training for the half marathon in october!

  • @ElusiveWords - aches and pains only there if you don’t do it on regular basis.  once it’s part of your regular schedule, you won’t feel a thing unless you push yourself over the limit during the work-out hours.
