Lazy entry - food pics
Here are some food pics – which means, this is a lazy entry.
The beef, zucchini, potatoes were from the local farmer’s
market. The beef is a steak and I just
cut it into small pieces and pan fried it.
The oyster mushrooms are organic but were from the supermarket.Fresh asparagus – they were picked the day before the
market. I just blanched them in some
water and they were very sweet.Cherries – also from the farmer’s market.
This is a whole wheat and flax – not dry at all, very moist
and has a very rich taste – almost like eating beer. It’s also from the farmer’s market.I’ve also picked up muffins, tomato sauce, jams and a bunch
of other veggies every week. It's a small market but it's got a bit of everything. Some of the vendors are here from last year. So it's nice to see some familiar faces.I'm also seeing a lot more young families here too. I always thought it was just mostly singles and couples in this neighborhood.
Sometimes a picture doesn’t always tell the truth. This is fried rice but the rice wasn’t cooked
properly. I’ve been trying a different brand of rice and the grains were a bit hard after I fried it. Oh well...

is it rare to see a farmer market there? i heart cherries~~
secret to fried rice is to use day old rice, it's a bit drier, therefore gets crunchy..
@lcfu - no, it's quite popular with weekly markets in many different areas of the city. The one I go to emphasizes locally grown products. So you can't just resell stuff. See here -> http://www.my-market.ca/index.html
@snowjunky8 - yeah, it was a few hours and I spread it out to dry it a bit. Maybe I should have added a bit of chicken stock to rehydrate the rice when I was frying it.
now we know which neighbourhood you live in,
hence being able to stalk you more easily~ wahahaha
nice cherries! can I have some?
This makes me want to check out the farmer's market by my house. Maybe I will do that tomorrow.
Thanks for the inspiration.
I like Japanese & Japanese colony rice for fried rice.
Each rain of rice aren't sticky, and they have a lot of moisture...
What a coincidence!! I had beef, asparagus, and rice for dinner and cherries afterwards!!
@tomatoboi - lol... no one is that interested in stalking me ... hahaha
@gyjcwang - the other rice I used was a longer grain rice and it wasn't sticky. This one seems to need more water during cooking.
@curry69curry - yeah, but your dishes probably looks a lot better.
@apocatim - hope you enjoyed your local farmer's market.
I love the food pics. I also love to wander through our farmer's market - fresh food and home had breads. Yummy.
I don't care, I still love your food entries!
looks delicious! mm... i wish i could buy more organic stuff, but it's pricey and i'm still on a student budget
@ElusiveWords -
you never know~ hehehe *evil grin*
well, yeah, now i'm hungry. Ha,,
it looks wonderful.... i love to cook, but seldom do it.
be well,
*~matthew~*
@kunhuo42 - yeah, some of the stuff is simply locally grown - doesn't have to be organic. At the local supermarkets, I see a lot of organic stuff but they are flow in from South America, US and Mexico. So by the time it gets here, the taste isn't there anymore. Good luck though - I know it's not easy on a student budget.
@bleuzeus - thanks
@Fatcat723 - The bread is simply wonderful - I wish I could bake.
@tomatoboi - ai ya... *runs away*
It all looks great, especially the cherries. I am so looking forward to eating stone fruits when I'm back in the US. Peaches, cherries, nectarines, apricots, plums. We're going to have nonstop cobblers, crisps, pies and claufoutis.
the first dish with the zucchini, potatoes, steak and oyster mushrooms look so good
=[
and its bad too cuz its so late at night
Your food always looks good.
And to mention, your flowers always look like they're healthy. <3
I envy you.
the cherries look real tasty!
