  • Matman loves Batman

I watched Batman with my bf and his nephew.  I was completely captivated by the movie and
glad that it lived up to its’ billing.  It
was a far cry from the earlier Batman movies.
I think the last 2 have finally restored the brand.  Heath Ledger as the Joker took my breath
    away.  He was crazy, repulsive,
diabolical – a mad, sick, twisted genius who dragged everyone down to
his level.  Batman by far was my favorite superhero when I was growing up.  I liked Superman but he wasn’t human.

With so much superpowers, the odds were
always stacked in his favor unless they were bizarre super villains.  Batman
appealed to something deep inside me.  I
instantly related to him and found that darker side of him alluring.  I knew early on that I was very different
than the other kids.  The two sided Bruce Wayne / Batman helped simplify things for me in ways that I couldn’t understand.  It was comforting at some level.  I wanted to grow up just like him.  I liked how Batman
worked independently, a solitary but powerful figure.  Adopting Robin was just a bonus – this
complex, strong man had a very nurturing side.

My brother and I often played superheroes.  We would tie up a small blanket to our necks
and race around the house.  The capes, uhm… blankets,
of course, acted as a giant sweeper which horrified mom.  She would chase after us with her super mom
speed and scolded us with her super mom voice.
It’s tough to be a superhero when you’re growing up.  No one understands you and your vision.

But I digress, the film was engrossing.
I wanted to go back and explore the darker side of Batman, the District
Attorney Dent in their pursuit of justice.  On
a side note, we sat near the front which enabled me to see the suits, shirts
and ties that Bruce Wayne wore.  I like
his style – understated, classical and very tasteful.  I wanted to reach into his jacket and find
    out the brand.

I can’t wait for it the movie to come out on DVD.  I hope there will be some
    very good commentary accompanying it.

  • I have not seen the movie as yet but you know I will be there as soon as I can. I like Batman for the same reason – he is human!

  • I have not seen the movie, either.  Maybe I should go and watch.

  • I’ve liked Batman since I was a kid too~

  • You should go watch it at IMAX, I heard it’s a even better experience

  • @Fatcat723 - I’m pretty sure you’ll like it.

@stevew918 - hope you don’t catch it on one of your flights.  The small screen won’t do it justice.

    @tomatoboi - aww…

@gyjcwang - I gotta find someone else to watch it with me again.

  • it was a great movie.. and christian bale has been my favorite male actor.. ever since “empire of the sun” … now that’s kicking it pretty old school. LOL. and i can relate to being chased around by my mom and hearing her superscreaming. hope all the other friends go watch the movie too. -Lan

ps. this is probably my second favorite batman movie of all time… i always enjoyed “batman returns” with michelle pheiffer as catwoman. but the effects these days blow all of the older stuff out of the water by far.

  • Yeah…it was a great movie =]

especially loved the joker…without Heath…there would be no Dark Knight movie

    and
superman’s cool…in a sense that he has to hide his true self- this
strong amazing hero and fake an identity as a boring
    everyday…whatever he did

man….if only i had a dood cousin… i played house and with dolls growing up… it was either that or digging in the mud.

ryc: yeah i guess so… but itd be better if there would be two people doing him rather than none

  • I think what I enjoyed the most was how effectively the movie conveyed the mind-numbing, paradoxes we may encounter in our everyday lives, vicariously, through the perspectives and actions of each character. I thought it was also very noble of director Nolan to cast the film in a humanistic light–that we’re all capable of succumbing to and being evil ourselves.

I was absolutely enthralled by the film as well. Can’t wait to get it on DVD!

  •  I want to see this!!!

  • yup..the movie was good. you should go see it at IMAX, so much better. I went with my friends on opening night, sadly, we did not go see it at the IMAX. bummer… now i want to go back and see it in IMAX .

  • I haven’t seen it, but maybe I should.

  • i haven’t seen it, but my bf has already seen it twice and insists that i go see it on the big screen.  i’m sure he’ll be more than happy to go see it a third time around…

  • @luCky13uddha - I enjoyed Empire of the Sun too.

@Devilzgaysianboi - I never played house but I did have an old GI Joe doll.  The head came off within days and it became the monster after that.

@trendyhedonism - yeah, I think we have a bit of Joker in each of us.

    @apocatim - you won’t be disappointed.

@icebladz - maybe I should make a return visit to check it out in IMAX.  But this time, I’m not going to sit near the front.

    @mmmagination - I’m pretty sure you’ll like it.

@kunhuo42 - you should play hard to get.  Insist that he wash your car, clean your apt and make dinner before you’ll agree to watch this “childish flick” hee hee….

  • i’m a diehard marvel fan, but i went to see this anyway…hehe.  marvel > dc!

  • I completely agree, Batman was my superhero growing up.

The movie was amazing, I am so glad someone took it in the right direction and saved it from the cornyness it was in the past. Not that George Clooney didn’t make a hot Batman, and Jim Carrey didn’t make a funny Riddler. It just had more substance to it now.

  • batman is human but they always make him seem super-human, being able to easily adapt to his technologies and fly around or drive skillfully at who knows how many hundred miles per hour, or being able to take a beating over and over again. that’s not very human!

  • i thought you played wonder woman :P

anyway, batman is a fave hero. did you know that he was designed after jesus christ? something that makes him connected with superman.

re: robin. i laughed with the whole idea. i mean when it was explained why he adopted him and gave him the red and green costume. because batman is scary and robin gives colorful appeal to… well, kids. that’s why.

anyway, bravo to the current batman movie. it sure did measure up to what people think he should be.

  • The movie was awesome!!!  When I was a kid my brother and I used to pretend to be the soldiers from Voltron.

  • it was a great movie :)

  • Haven’t seen it yet.  Was waiting until Tawn and I were both back home, so maybe that means we can catch it tonight.  Funny image in my mind of you running around with a towel around your neck.  What superpowers did you have?

  • @luCky13uddha - ”Empire of the Sun” – there’s a movie I haven’t thought of in a long, long time!

  • i’m probably one of the very few who haven’t seen it YET!  will do soon.  heard heath’s performance is oscar worthly.
