  • How's your weekend?

The CNE is on, which means traffic in my area is down to a crawl.  With
the new condos and townhouses, there's been a lot more traffic.  The
proximity to the CNE grounds. Ontario Place and some road maintenance
means I have to allot for more time getting around if I have to drive.
Today, I was a couple of cars behind one of those trucks carrying pigs
to their final destination.  Even at a distance, the smell was pretty
bad.  Traffic was stopped as usual I had to spend a bit more time behind that truck.  Ugh... I'm glad my condo is far from the slaughterhouse.  But a couple
of times a year, when the wind is right, I can smell it.

Most of this weekend was spent with one of my cousins and his wife who
are visiting.  He's actually a lot older than I am.  This is due in
large part to the large age gap between my aunts and uncles.  As he
explains it, my grandfather worked in the States while my grandmother was in China.  He would send money home and only returned home for visits when he had enough money saved.  So approximately 9 months after each visit, my grandmother would have a child.  It was fun listening to some of the family history.  I took out my camera yesterday as he was telling a story so I could record it.  But the batteries were out of charge.

This was the last video I took on Friday.  We've been having some summer storms in the past couple of weeks.  Friday was no exception.  I was working from home when I heard the raindrops coming down.  I then heard the hail.  I took a peek out the window and noticed people ducking into storefronts for cover.   It wasn't that big  and it was over in less than 5 minutes.

Another family dinner tonight - my stomach can't handle this anymore.  But I know I'll miss these meals a few years down the road.

Xanga is so quiet on the weekends.  I wish everyone would update so I can procrastinate by reading your entries.

  • Well, I was quiet today as I prepare my mobile home for the approaching hurricane! Get all the movable stuff into the shed - lock down the shutters on the windows and make sure there was enough water here. I live less and 1/8 from the water and in a mobile home so every time a hurricane or tropical storm approaches all in the part are told to close up and evacuate. I keep a bag packed during hurricane season (July thru November). I am not sure where I will go this year if I need leave. Let hopes it does not decide to come ashore in my area!

  • @Fatcat723 - oh dear... I just saw something in the news this morning about that hurricane.  Let's hope it veers away.

  • Haha my family already asked me about parking at my place when I move down to LV!  Crazy eh!  And I would update except I'm not at home and don't have my pics sorted yet.

  • That's one of the things that I don't like about Toronto ~ extreme weather XD

  • @brooklyn2028 - our building doesn't have a lot of visitors parking so it's a bit of a hassle.  They might be able to sneak in some parking at the Dominion parking lot.

    @zozoyork - aww...

@CareyGLY -  I didn't read your entry, just kept staring at Rain.

  • I have a video just like that one! but it's from maybe couple months ago already~ heh

  • they weekends are slow on here,

but they do tend to go by quickly.. the same as those family meals.

enjoy what you can of the rest of yours.

    peace *~matthew~*

  • Extreeeeme Toronto. that's funny. you don't usually hear those two words together. I am watching this show called "Twitch City" on dvd. Are Toronto people really that weird? Do you call them "Torontulas?" Torontarians? Oh I guess you do since spellchecker didn't underline it.

  • our weekend lives aren't as exciting as yours, matt!

  • I have been posting Matt... you haven't had time to check mine out. Thanks for posting the rain and the hail. I love the sound of both.

  • @ZSA_MD - yes you have, nothing stops you.  You've even posted when you were in Turkey!  I didn't want to mention your "addiction" hee hee....

  • @bleuzeus - I will - I certainly don't mind time passing by slowly.

@chrispycrunch - yup - a proud addict.  Yes, I'm planning to go later in the year.  I think I may need a tripod for those long shots.

@apocatim - I don't remember "Twitch City".  Torontonians  (a bit of a toungue twister) is how we call ourselves.

@Love_Eternal_Desire - lol... if you had webcam on me, you would be asleep within 5 mins.

  • @tomatoboi - if you look closely, you'll see the "Tomatoboi" copyright logo.

  • @ElusiveWords -

after looking at it closely, it turns out it's not the same
since you took it from inside your apartment, while I was in my car when I took it awhile ago~ =P

  • That's some hail!  Glad you were inside the car and hope it wasn't damaged.

Hey, I try to do my part by updating on the weekends.

  • @ElusiveWords - Yes, a tripod is a MUST for long exposure. However, I was able to get handheld shots for the well-lit ones...this was on my crappy point and shoot @ around 1/30sec or so. Now my dSLR has anti-shake so i can push things further :)

  • @christao408 - actually I was in my apt.  Yeah, I have to say you're one of the few weekend updaters.

  • hahaha  sorry, i was actually out of town for the weekend -- last road trip before the school year starts up again.  mmm...  i like family dinners because it usually means a lot of good food that i don't have to cook!

  • your story reminds me of my mom and her oldest sister who she just recently met when visiting china. before their parents moved to the philippines, the oldest daughter already had a life in china so she stayed behind. then my mom and her other siblings were born. such a large age gap between them!

  • soory, I have a very busy weekend, and spent 14 hours on the plane.  Hail in summer? never thought it can happen, wow.

  • I guess you are not the only person having older cousins, me too...hehehe....We need rain in LA!! Can you "bring" some rain over?

  • hey, thanks again for the message.  yeah, looks like I lucked out for this interview.  I was feeling I was on track though.  I also have a cold and trying to recover after pulling an all nighter.  I'm gonna continue reading up for tomorrow's interview.  Yeah, my mom even called, said she'd pray for me = p
