Traveling with dad
I'm going to be traveling with my dad tomorrow
to visit a few of his brothers and sister. We'll be gone for the
weekend. He's not a patient traveler and I fear he'll say the wrong thing
to a custom officer. As he's gotten older, the part of the brain that controls what to say and what not to say doesn't work well. When his doctor gave him a physical some time ago,
he said he told the receptionist afterwards "Dr. "x" stuck
his finger up my a**!" I cringed when he told me ... thank goodness I wasn't with
him at the waiting room at time.My suitcase will be filled with gifts, extra meds, first aid etc... hopefully
there will still be room for some clothes. My dad's family is not particularly
close knit family. It's large and widely scattered. I'll somehow
make the best of it. I also don't like driving in strange cities. My brother has lent me his
GPS and I have a map as well. The only thing I won't have is my
laptop. I just hope things don't go crazy. It'll be the first time in ages that I've traveled with my dad. I did ask for separate rooms as we both have very different sleeping habits.Oh yeah, I have to wear a mouthguard now when I sleep. It's to prevent my teeth from grinding at night and also to prevent my jaw from clenching too tight. It's a bit awkward to put on and to take off.
Have a nice weekend everyone!

Have fun travelling with your Dad!! My mom's family is like your Dad's, large and scattered. It's confusing and uncomfortable when we do reunite. Hope you cope well on your trip
i hope the trip goes without any incidents, and have fun visiting the relatives!
Careful traveling. You are a great son!
Are you going overseas? You talk about custom officers... so you must be going outside Canada. Be safe and careful. But above all, love every minute of your time spent with him, and keep a journal for your sister and brother, recording all he says and your reactions etc. God bless.
good son =)
you make your dad sound ancient. how old is he now? where are you going? have fun!
heh. hope you and your dad have a good time... hopefully.
So nice of you driving your dad around travelling. Have a nice trip!!
My dentist suggested the same solution to my grinding teeth too! I'm afraid this may cause insomnia....
@curry69curry - the mouth guard wasn't as bad as I had thought. I slept ok with it.
ryc: It is confirmed today!
Hope all goes well with the trip and you enjoy seeing your relatives. Remember you cannot control your Dad. Just liet Dad be Dad and keep smiling!!
Good luck this weekend with your dad. I hope it'll be a positive experience. And by the looks of the mouth guard, you have straight teeth.
aaah, you wear a bite guard too? hahaha. Do you have a cross bite like me as well? Yeah, my parents said I always ground my teeth. They even got me braces to address it but it didn't get rid of the grinding. So now, I have still have a metal wire retainer on the back of my bottom teeth and a bite guard. The bite guart was freakin' expensive. Like $300 from what I remember. or am i just becoming forgetful.
Thanks for the feedback on the flowers. If you look at them again, they kind of look like 70's flowers. Not Hawaiian flowers, lol. But couldn't find any hawaiian flowers. As for my interview, yeah, I think it was my best one yet, but I still felt a little socially awkward, lol. Perhaps I'm still not used to interviews.
as everyone has said, you really are a good son. And the mouthguard...I think I have the same problem. A mouthguard might be in my future. Is it because we're always eating in our sleep??
Hi! Sorry this is long overdue, I haven't logged on for a while. and no, thank YOU for having interesting posts.
whoa... i wanna travel....kidnap me please and bring me along with you.... j/k
have a good time....or hope you had a good time, hehe.
Wish you safe travels and easy passages across the border. Last month I traveled across the WA/BC border a number of times. Although you may be able to answer all questions, sometimes they seem to want each person in the car to answer the questions.

oh yes, the mouthguard. I've been using a "splint", as the orthodontist called it ages ago. It's become my mouthguard because (as the orthodontist said), I've clearly got German genes--I place most stress in my jaw. I've had this so long that it's uncomfortable for me if I travel and forget the bite plate.

they say that when one is caught with grinding teeth moment, all is needed is a slap
@alchemystfury - not a cross bite, I just clench my jaw and probably grind my teeth.
@jasonbasin - hahaha.... I'm probably dreaming about the yummy pictures in your blog while I sleep.
@piyapong - thank you for the compliment - much appreciated.
@lcfu - hahaha - it's always fun reading your travel adventures.
@ABSOLUTmichael - I did... just updated my Xanga. Now to catch up with everyone's entries.
@Renatojr3 - and who's gonna slap me? lol...
@mbpasadena - good to see you dropping by again.
I probably have some German genes too.
