  • Anyone for dimsum?

A quick and lazy entry... dimsum!   Sorry for the lighting - I didn't use the flash - the pictures have this yellowish tint.

This is a rice roll with fish and pea sprout inside, the rice roll is green instead of white.  The fish was very nice and not fishy at all.

Shrimp dumplings with pea sprouts in a clear broth.

This is a sesame seed ball with roast duck, taro and pine nuts inside.  My bf took the other one
before I could snap the picture.

Deep fried tofu with abalone, mushrooms and minced pork inside.

The sauce was pretty good - a bit too much starch though.  This is the only decent shot of the
inside.   It was being  cut up when I took this shot.

Tempura with a wasabi mayonaisse (where did that mayo go?)

Another dumpling in soup with shrimp and baby bak choi.

Potstickers (I almost burnt my tongue!)

Fresh egg tarts with birds nests on top.

I was so stuffed afterwards and waddled out of the restaurant.    Now I gotta go hit the gym.

  • Wow. I want you to teach me to cook! Any vegan versions?

  • I think there are some vegetarian ones but I'm not sure if there are vegan versions.  Btw - I didn't cook any of them.  They are from a restaurant.  Dimsum (at least for me) is too hard to make.

  • the stuffed tofu....never saw such meal before....looks so yummy!
the yellow dumpling with shrimp and baby bok choi is my fav dish XD
Wow it's my first time knowing egg tart with bird nests on top !!
now u fulfil ur revenge,  i am hungry XD

  • How can fish be not fishy? I haven't had dim sum in ages, I never know what to pick. I think the Spanish equivalent is tapas which means "little plates." and that's exactly what it is. The tart looks good... tarts always look good to me :)

  • wow, that looks so delicious!  i haven't had dim sum in forever, and those are some very fancy dim sum dishes there.

i'm glad you clarified that the roll in the first picture was green... i thought my eyes were playing tricks on me!

  • @zozoyork - oh zozoyork ... you don't know how many times I've gone to bed with my tummy growling after reading your blog.

  • I have absolutely no access to authentically good dim sum here in Ithaca; it's very very unfortunate. I can't wait to be back home in SoCal again...

I guess I will just have to settle for Spanish tapas at Just A Taste for now...

  • @apocatim - sometimes fish have this unappetizing fishy taste / smell.  This one just had a nice delicate taste.  The tarts were yummy.

@kunhuo42 - I did a double take on those rice rolls too when they showed up.

@trendyhedonism - well... you'll have to make do with what you have.  Tapas sounds pretty good.

  • YAY FOOD PORN!  Ate out last week and found some good dim sum!

  • I love Dimsum. Absolutely love it. Used to be, we would have to wait until we went to S'frisco before we could eat it. Now, St.louis has a place where they serve it on the weekends. I cannot wait for Ramadan to be over, so I can go there. They always know not to  roll the cart with many pork dishes to our table when they see me.

  • don't be such a perfectionist Matt; your pictures look great.

  • What a coincidence...I had dim sum too on Saturday but missed taking the photos.  Your egg tarts must be really good since they added birds nests on top!!

  • @curry69curry - The egg tart was a bit on the small side but very nice.  We waited for
about 15 minutes after we ordered it before it got to our table.  The
crust was very flaky and the custard was still very warm.  It's the
first time I had it with birds nest.

@ZSA_MD - I think the carts make it more of an adventure.  I don't eat chicken feet but one time the lady came by with a cart and said something I didn't understand.  So I looked and it was chicken feet!  I turned to my mom and told her I didn't hear her yell out chicken feet.  My mom chuckled and explained that the server said something that translates roughly to Phoenix Claws to make it more elegant and colorful.

  • @Fatcat723 - looks like a few of us enjoyed dimsum!

  • btw where is that dim sum place located in TO? Now u makes me wanna go back to Toronto XD

  • Oh nice! I want to eat them all! I like the green rice rolls and the potstickers. Yum yum!

  • green cheung faan? abalone tofu? i must try!

  • that looks like a very nice dimsum place. i haven't seen dishes so nicely presented before.

  • we call those sesame balls "buchi". usually with peanut butter inside. hmm, that tofu with stuff inside is something. i love tofu!

    five stars for you :D

ryc: not you too... heheheh. why does everyone starts asking or commenting me about that (taking off my clothes and jumping in the pool)?

  • Wow, I don't think I have tried some of those dim sum here! Especially the rice roll and sesame ball with roasted duck and taro. They are sound good to me!

  • where's the shrimp puff?!

you cant have dimsum without shrimp puff! =O!

  • mmmm...i love tempura!!

  • I need to go to the gym just looking at the photos..

    YUM  *~matthew~*

  • @Devilzgaysianboi - what are shrimp puffs?  Are those the large shrimp chips or a shrimp dumpling that's been deep fried?

@Nickolaj - yeah, this restaurant serves some interesting dimsum.

    @ABSOLUTmichael - me too!

@Renatojr3 - the tofu with abalone was very nice.

@twistedoff - yeah, this restaurant does a pretty good dimsum (and pricey)

@JonasApproved - I should have put a JonasApproved sticker on those cheung fann.

@mmmagination - hahaha.... it was yummy.

  • @bleuzeus - I've just posted another entry to torment you.

  • OMG, i'm drooling right now and it's not even lunch time yet.

  • This won't succeed in actual fact, that is what I believe. 8 LINK 4. To my mind one and all ought to look at this. link link 8. In my opinion everybody should browse on this. go 5 check. Goodness, there is really much worthwhile data in this post!
