Counting sheep
Lately, I’ve been dreading the midnight hour. My body wants to sleep but my mind
doesn’t. I usually read for a while and
eventually fall asleep. Most of the time
I’ll then wake up again and start to toss and turn. Sometimes I’ll watch a bit of TV and then
fall asleep. Since the TV is in my
living room, I just lie down on my couch and before I know it, I’m in slumber
land. I’ll then wake up sometime around
4 AM, turn off the TV and then go to my bed.It sounds bizarre but it works. Sometimes when I’m sleeping in my bed, I’ll
turn the lights on. I’m not scared of
sleeping in the dark. But the light
seems to give a sense of comfort that I had never sought before. If I start to look for my old teddy bear, I’m
gonna have to check into a sleep disorder clinic. It’s close to bedtime… ugh.
I’ll have to find a way to quiet my mind and just purge all those thoughts and worries that have accumulated during the day.

I usually drink a glass of warm milk and start to write on Xanga, and that’ll put me to sleep…with the lights on of course!
lights on while you sleep = waste of energy
@tomatoboi - yeah… the only consolation is that it’s a compact fluorescent bulb.
@curry69curry - I do the warm milk too. It doesn’t work all the time.
Eat 2 kiwis an hour before you sleep. That’s what I read from men’s health. Give it a try =)
Good night!
I try some hot tea to relax. There is a special Chinese tea for that. We have a Chinese Market and the lady who runs the place gave it to me. It works. Yes, I did forget the name and I am out of it.
the daily stuff troubling your mind? is it work related or lots of things? doesn’t sound too good, matt. but if it’s a habit, then it’s a habit. i know of people that can only sleep with the tv on.
maybe write on xanga but leave it private…. or write in a journal to purge your thoughts there.
hope you find out something that works for you.
i agree with rob, there is a great tea that helps you relax and get to sleep. i’ve tried it once; my bf drinks it a fair amount. he also sometimes dopes up with melatonin or valerian root to help knock himself out as well. on the other hand, i usually try to meditate and clear my mind, and bring myself to a more relaxed state which then helps me fall asleep. one of my friends once suggested cyclical breathing patterns, which i suppose is sort of the same idea. good luck getting some sleep!
ok here is my two cents worth. Xangaing at night gets me high, and I am wired.
I want all quiet and comfortable pillows; I read in bed…nothing spicy or juicy. That really helps me a lot. If I don’t have a book, then i take the local news paper and read the editorials or some dry and unamusing articles.
Have you tried soaking in a tub of warm water before bed?
Good luck darling.
i think you get the comfort of having the lights on while you sleep due to the frequent number of times you sleep with the tv on. you got used to having something bright even while your eyelids are closed.
