Good music and good food
The last couple of weeks have been busy with work and my
bf. We watched Lang Lang’s performance a
couple of weeks ago. It was a very good
performance and well worth the money. I’m
not an expert at classical music and I was absolutely mesmerized by his performance. The 2 hours just flew by all too quickly. The hall was very busy that night. There were many parents who brought their kids
to the concert. The boys spanned the
spectrum of formal wear. White shirts
with sleeves that never seemed to fit billowed out of the pants while others
were neatly tucked in. Some boys had
ties but most didn’t. Most wore sneakers
to finish off their attire. I can
imagine mom or dad reminding them before the concert that if they practiced
harder, they could be like Lang Lang. We
also got our CD’s autographed by him after the concert. The ushers told us as we were lining up that
due to the huge crowd and the time constraint; he was only going to sign his
name – no personalizing the CDs and/or books.
He had another reception to attend afterwards.
The concert brought back memories long ago when my mom and
dad took us to our first concert and ballet.
We always sat in the back in case we became disruptive. A cadence of stern warnings were issued days
ahead of the concert and reinforced just before we entered the concert
hall. We had to behave, no talking, no
laughing and no fooling around. We even
had an afternoon nap so we didn’t fall asleep during the concert. The nap didn’t help. The ballets however fascinated me. Actually it was the “bulges” in the male
dancers fascinated me. Well, it was also
the movement and how the ballerinas could flutter across the stage on their
toes.Packed into the past week was another feast with my bf’s
family. The little one is so cute. He is generous with sloppy wet kisses much to
everyone’s amusement (except when they are on the receiving end). My bf and I also had a good dinner this past
weekend. The sashimi was fresh and
generous. The lychee martini (our first)
was nice. I guess it would be better if
the lychee was fresh and the glass a bit colder but I’m being fussy. Here are some of the dishes that I had.
Shrimp and scallops with snow peas
Birds nest soup with crab meat and shrimp
We also had Peking Duck, this was the 2nd part with lettuce (not shown here)
Crispy skin chicken - tender, moist and the skin was so good (yeah... I'm sure my doctor would have frowned on me eating it).
The "closers" a) E-Fu noodles, just the right amount of firmness.
and b) fried rice - the rice wasn't sticky and had a very good "wok hay" (this is hard to translate - it literally means the breath of the wok) Check the link for a better explanation.

the food looks so good!
I want the crispy chicken! and the scallops!
oi, you should treat us xangans for a dinner just like the one you had!
Agree, the food look so delecious. The shrimp and scallop are espcially vivid.
I hope Lang Lang did not make funny or exagegerated expression as he is infamous of doing... =P
I used to like Lang Lang but not anymore after he butchered a song that I like XD He speeded up the tempo and altered the song!! XD
I will just go for the bird nest soup....as i am going on a diet haahhaha =P
wow! more food pics
scallops and shrimps are the best, add the noodles. hmm hmm hmm..
haven't seen a ballet show nor an orchestra performing. only an all a capella group. i thought it to be a boring one but boy, i was soo wrong. got really great discount coz' we sat at the very front row. i love my friends. lol!
MMMM Good music + good food + boyfriend = a great time.
.
my parents never go to concerts. i wish they did--i want to see them enjoy themselves.
your food always looks so good. and its asian food, too. i'm drooling.
@zozoyork - which piece did he "improvise" on.
Lang lang is very expressive..very talented - good that you got to see him and to get his autograph.
it's all about the wok hei!
@tomatoboi - I would go broke!
@stevew918 - seems that we both like putting food porn up on our sites.
@zozoyork - there were a couple of places where he stomped his foot but otherwise he wasn't overly theatrical. The soup was very good. I almost licked the bowl clean.
@Renatojr3 - oh I was so stuffed afterwards... *burp*
@Fatcat723 - it's a great forumla.
@twistedoff - maybe you can buy them tickets.
@chrispycrunch - he is very expressive but not overly theatrical.
@snowjunky8 - I remember asking my mom and my aunt to explain that and walked away puzzled. Now that I cook, I have a better understanding of what that means.
yummy food. Thanks for the comment. I just created a second 3-D sample of a luggage girl. I think it's better than the first one I made.
Oh, I got to enjoy Lang Lang's concert as well!! Yes, he was quite expressive as usual!
Haha....your "wok hay"....Just thinking about those words is making me hungry.
... I concur with Tomatoboi ... just make it a select few please!
i actually hated that stuff as a kid. we'd always go on fieldtrips and i'd struggle to stay awake. i bet i'd appreciate it more now, though.
food looks good!
Thanks for making my tummy grumble while I'm sneaking around Xanga at work. Pictures make me salivate.
wow, that food looks so good... reading your blog always make me hungry, even when i've just eaten!
i think the only thing my parents took me to that i can remember is a production of "phantom of the opera," which i was a little too young to really appreciate. ah well... i'm making up for it now!
I just looked up his music and loved it. I wonder if he has ever performed with Vienna Teng?
I will have to locate some of his music and see what it's like. I love finding music I've not heard before.
Your food posts always make me gain weight....yum.
peace *~matthew~*
@alchemystfury - yep, I agree ... I have a better appreciation of what it takes. I've always thought it was just a few clicks of the keyboard.
@curry69curry - you saw him too? He was also on Jay Leno after he finished here.
@AppsScraps - lol...
@JonasApproved - I think we appreciate it as we get older.
@reirey - no sneaking around Xanga while working!
@kunhuo42 - it has the same effect on me too!
@CareyGLY - glad you enjoyed his music.
@bleuzeus - I think you'll like his performances.
yeah thanks for the words. First my car breaks down, then I win the tv. Then I lose my laptop. So perhaps I"m bound to get more good luck this weekend. I can only hope.
birds nest soup with crab meat and shrimp? never heard about before...@_@
Thanks for leaving a message. I am well... Just super busy with my new phd program in the states. I really miss Chinese food, and your food pics make me so hungry! I must go feast on ALL that when I go back to Toronto in December!!!
being a little fussy when it comes to food and drinks is ok. it just means that you know what you should be getting.
