  • Lazy picture entry...

    Liberty Village is a nice walk from my neighborhood.  This all used to be industrial land.  But now it's
    This loft / condo used to be a toy factory.  It's a handsome looking building.  The whole area used to be factories and warehouses.  It's now a very interesting neighborhood..  I love neighborhoods that have been given new life.

    I don't remember what this building used to be but it's now a pub.  There are shops and a gym off
    to the side.

    I think this used to be an old jail.  It's now in a small park at the center of condos and townhouses
    in this neighborhood.  I wonder if it's haunted.

    The condos right by the former jail.  The building on the right is being finished.  The one on the left
    was constructed first and already occupied.  Just to the left of that will be another building.
    They are digging out the foundation now.

    These are the multi-story townhouses right beside the towers.

    From a local coffee house... (Balzacs)

    This is a bit late but some of you asked for this.  This was the 23 lb turkey that my brother and sister in law
    made for Thanksgiving.  It was huge and I don't know how it fit into their oven. They usually hosts
    their family dinners so we meet up with their extended family.

    I had lamb the next day that my sister made.  Oh boy - this was very good.  When inspired,
    my sister can cook quite well.  The odd part is that she doesn't like to cook Chinese because it's
    too much work.  (puzzling...)

    How ironic that I would be following up an entry about writing with just pictures.

  • Yum lamb! My fave! And I love our neighbourhood. Only thing I wish was there was a bit more green space but I guess I shouldn't complain. Do you like the coffee at Balzac's? I had it before and wasn't too impressed!

  • @brooklyn2028 - there's always Trinity Bellwoods park on Queen.  But that might be a bit of a long walk for you though.  The lake isn't too far off for you.  I sometimes walk down there.  The coffee at Balzacs was ok the past few times I've had them.  (hmm.... now you'll know were to find me on some days.  I'll have to wear a disguise .

  • Ahh...all those new buildings reminds me of the game "Sim City". LOL
    Wow, that's a BIG turkey, and lamb shank, you can invite us over for a follow-up dinner!!

  • I like the look of the neighbourhood. I wouldn't mind living in the townhouses.

  • It was a good post. I enjoyed it.

  • I saw the same idea being done in DC.- turning older buildings into condos and townhouses. I like the idea and would not mind living in one of those - if I could afford it.

  • well, a picture is worth a thousand words!

    oh, and to reply to your last comment...  school house rock!

  • @ElusiveWords - Trinity Bellwoods is not far.  I do plan on going down to the lake for runs in the morning!!  Can't wait for that.  What I meant about the greenspace is that it would be nice if it were right in the area for visuals as well.  Right now everything is so industrial but I guess that's part of the charm.

    And why do you keep wanting to hide from me?  Am I that scary???

  • That's a great looking turkey.  As for the new neighborhood, I love watching how neighborhoods can grow, evolve, die and be reborn like organic beings.

  • @brooklyn2028 - Yeah, why is Matt trying to hide from you?  You seem like a nice enough guy.  =)

  • I like to see area improving, nice.  Thanksgiving? we have Thanksgiving in November here is  USA.  I did not know it is different day in Canada. Need anyone to help you eat the Turkey and lamb?

  • What a great neighborhood. Nice pics!

  • @curry69curry - the food is all gone!

    @mmmagination - yeah, it's a pretty nice 'hood.

    @macphoto - thanks!

    @Fatcat723 - it must be very interesting to live in one of these old buildings.  But some of them are very pricey!

    @kunhuo42 - hahaha, that song is still stuck in my head!

    @christao408 - it's become very gentrified over the years.  The prostitutes have become more discreet.  I used to see them outside my window.   I'm sure I'll meet up with him in the 'hood very soon.

    @stevew918 - they are all gone!  My brother made turkey soup the next morning.

    @CareyGLY - thanks!

  • It looks like you live in a really nice neighbourhood. I used to live in Toronto but near Queen and Sherbourne. Not so nice there...there were 3 murders within a 2 block radius of me in one year!

  • @SeanYee - there've been a few murders in my hood too.

  • aaww, turkey!!  i keep forgetting that people celebrate thanksgiving in the western hemisphere. i'm so oblivious about thanksgiving celebrations ever since my return to asia.  ps:  i like the "coffee canisters" shot.
