From Ovaltine to Dinosaurs
I had a glass of hotmilk with Ovaltine Malt last night and I slept a lot better. I know hot milk before bed helps people fall asleep. It's been ages since I've had Ovaltine. I used to have that when I was a kid. There was also Milo too. I know those brands are still around. But I don't have a clue if it's popular with children here.
My bf and I went shopping yesterday. He wanted to buy some clothes and I like to dress him up. He doesn't like to spend more than he has to and brand names don't mean a thing to him. But we found a few shirts on sale so that was good. But he's still looking for a decent pea jacket. On the way to the mall, I decided to exercise my vocal cords and started to hum along with whatever was playing in his car. Our musical tastes are very different. He's into Mandopop and Cantopop. I don't know any of those songs. But I sang along bravely. He tried to drown out my howling by turning up the volume. I have to admit my singing was awful. I sounded like a T Rex in heat.
It's back to work again tomorrow and I'm dreading it. At the end of the day, I just have this bitter taste in my mouth. The money is ok - nothing extravagant. But there are days when I just feel like a corporate whore. That's when I start to question if the tradeoffs I've made are the right ones. I compare myself to my brother and sister and I'm in a better position than both of them. My brother is in the manufacturing sector and there have been several layoffs in his company this past year. Business has just plummeted. My sister is in retail (clothing). Almost all of her clients are in the US. Well - no one is buying and almost all her orders are getting canceled. They are both so stressed out with back pains and headaches. I'm in IT and it's not easy. More and more services (jobs) are being outsourced to other countries. Every year, the bar gets raised higher. If you're very good at what you do and you somehow manage to thrive - you get rewarded. If not, then you'll soon be extinct. Hopefully the only thing I have in common with the T Rex is just my singing.

Milo! I used to have that as a kid and I hated it. I am not really fond of milk.
Hot Chocolate before bed! Yummy! There is something in milk that does cause us to relax and I guess sleep better. Mya job is secure for the time. Only hope it stays that way. I am still out hunting for a part-time job.
Well, at least Mattie knows how to solve IT issues and writes really good stories, whereas, the T Rex does neither, so not to worry.....
@Dezinerdreams - I have to drink lactose free milk. Otherwise my stomach reacts "violently".
@Fatcat723 - good luck with the job search.
@curry69curry - hahaha - I should pass along your feedback to my manager.
I love milo! I never had it as a kid, just as an adult. lol. It has this interesting almost dark chocolatey flavor that is missing in ovaltine or yoohoo.
I had Milo and Ovaltine when I was a kid. I never had Horlicks (sp?), I know some of my friends from Hong Kong grew up with it. I should pick up Milo next time I'm in the supermarket. Maybe I'm just yearning for my childhood. lol...
Ovaltine is very popular here in Thailand. Don't know why. Maybe because it is an easy way to get the children to drink their milk? How sweet that you serenade your boyfriend.
Ovaltine! Gosh I haven't had that in so long. I remember not liking it that much when I was a kid though.
Sorry to hear that you are dreading going back to work. It really sucks to hate ones work since we spend so much time there. If I ever open up a bakery you can come work for me, ok! ^_^;
hahahah i had ovaltine once and didn't care for it too much... for some reason i thought it tasted a bit like seaweed.
work's been pretty crazy for me too. sorry to hear that you're actually dreading work though; my work can be stressful but i find some happiness in it.
@christao408 - believe it or not, the Ovaltine Malt drink that I purchased here is imported from Thailand (hmm... it's actually manufactured by AB Food Beverages in Samutprakarn, Thailand). I'm not sure he would even call it serenade.
@brooklyn2028 - sure I'd work in your bakery....no early morning hours for me, all the free samples I can eat and or take home, 6 figure salary, stock options and time off for blogging... hahahaha. It's a bad idea - I would devour all your profits.
@kunhuo42 - it wasn't all bad, just lately it's gotten a lot worse.
Nice use of dinosaurs in the post. I haven't had those drinks in a long time, but I was at a asian grocery store a few weeks ago. Those drinks are advertised as healthy drinks. I never knew that.
If I knew what Ovaltine was I would likely get it. I take it that it is something you have with hot milk?
Google here I come!
Just stumbled across your entry and thought this was brilliant! Made me laugh, made me think etc.
You're a good writer!
As for singing like T-rex...eh, who cares, right? Singing's when the soul comes out -- let it shine
p.s. warm milk before bed is what I do when I can't sleep too
@mmmagination - I just started to drink it again.
@whonose - yep, you got it!
@Devongolem - thank you. I think my bf calls it screeching rather than singing.
ovaltine... milo... i remember them! man, you're making me feel so old.
@rudyhou - haha - I'm drinking ovaltine like crazy now.
