The last time I got sick from drinking
It has been ages since I got sick from drinking. If my brain cells are still functioning properly, it happened during my first year at work. A couple of guys were getting together for drinks and I joined them. We started off with beers. It was one of those hot and humid summer evenings. I haven’t had dinner yet but I was very thirsty. So I downed a couple of cold beers very quickly (mistake #1). We then headed out for dinner. I switched to rum and cokes to accompany my meal (mistake #2). Everything was going fine although I knew I was getting a healthy buzz.
After dinner, we went back to the guy’s apartment and resumed our beer drinking. The guys I was with seemed to have an endless capacity for drinking. I drank enough at university so I knew what my limit was. I just sipped one… and then another (mistake #3) before calling it a night. I took a cab home and I knew something wasn’t right.
By the time I got in the door, my stomach was trying to remind me what I had for dinner. My parent’s house has only 1 bathroom and although it was late at night, someone was inside. I ducked into the kitchen and waited. It was a long wait. I hope dad wasn’t reading the New York Times. Or worse, maybe my brother fell asleep in the can again.
As luck would have it, my stomach started to heave and I just clenched my jaw tight to keep everything down. I started to look around the kitchen. I saw the backdoor and thought about doing it outside. Maybe some raccoon will get the blame. Option 2 was one of the pots. Well, that would gross. I never got to option 3 – I just did it right on the sink. The problem was, it didn’t go down the drain because of the stopper. I stared at the mess.
Mom came out of the bathroom and stopped at the kitchen door. She saw me standing by the sink. I had my back to the sink and she asked if everything was fine. I smiled like a little angel and said yes. I was lucky she didn’t come inside the kitchen to get a drink. She went back to her room.
I turned my attention back to the sink. I reached down into the mess, took out the stopper and everything slowly flowed down. I rinsed the sink clean. I don’t think anyone ever noticed. Since then, I have been very careful when I'm out drinking.

what an experience! I am really bad regarding drinking, I can pass out only 1/3 glass of red wine
Ew.....................
Man...sounds like you were a big drinker back then...
BTW, you know what happened to Evan?
Gosh, I haven't gotten sick from drinking since college...so 21 years!
The most I ever drink these days is a glass of wine with a good meal.
I bet your Mom knew
ugh ... i just threw up a couple nights ago from drinking patron. and that concludes my drinking quota for the rest of the year. j/k.
yes, it does sound like you were a big drinker then! i reckon people can take a lot because they drink heaps regularly (not good). plus they didn't do all your mistakes lol
...vomit in the kitchen sink = gross!!!
Haha. I wonder if your mom knew. :] Hopefully, your hand reached the stopper before it sunk really deep into the pile of puke. Man! I JUST LOVE YOUR STORIES
I have been sick drinking only once and it was in July last year. It was quiet an eventful night!!! Even though being sick is horrible, I am glad that I got to experience it once.
I guess we all learn in different way. I have never been sick to that point but have driven someone home who was hanging out the window contributing trash to the roadside! That taught me!
Hahah did you have to deodorize your kitchen because i'm sure it made quite the smell. Ah reminds me of the days where I had a bucket right next to my bed after nights of drinking in college.
eww... i think i've only been sick from drinking once, and that was because i thought we were in a rush to catch a movie so i downed my dinner so i was really full, and then we ended up just drinking and i had a little too much to drink (my tolerance is ok as long as i pace myself, but i'm definitely no champion drinker), and then we had a car ride home... in which i fell asleep. when i woke up we were arriving at home, just in time for me to run out the car and pay a visit to a nearby tree. i spent the next while next to the toilet inside the apartment until my stomach finally settled down. hopefully that remains the one and only time i get sick like that.
yukcity yuck...I dont drink beer...makes my stomach bloated...but mixing liquors will do that...I remember one time a significant other came home drunk, got in bed then threw up beer and nuts in the bed...while I was still in bed...it was....and smelled like.....
@agmhkg - I don't drink that much now. I can feel it after a couple of glasses of wine.
@Wangium - well, not that heavy drinker compared to others. I rarely drink nowadays.
@CareyGLY - I just have the odd drink here and there nowadays too.
@JonasApproved - I've never tried Patron but Tequila was one of my favorites.
@stepaside_loser - it was gross.
@Devilzgaysianboi - you just love it when I make a fool out of myself... hee hee ..
@Dezinerdreams - and once is enough!
@Fatcat723 - someone who got sick in my dad's car once. It was gross.
@Rm2046 - omg - a bucket right beside your bed? HAHAHA
@kunhuo42 - I guess I won't be buying you beers.
@snowjunky8 - yeah... mixing drinks. What a lesson.
What is it with people falling asleep on the can? I don't get that. This is why we should all be using squat toilets. You can't fall asleep like that!!
One sip, and I turn red and barf. Somehow, being hapa didn't dilute the Asian alcohol allergy at all. So I don't even bother. If I need a high, I eat massive amounts of dark chocolate. It sure tastes a hell of a lot better than anything fermented!!
yeah...after my rum and coke fiasco, i've decided to try being straight-edge again, hehe. i haven't drank since! well, i had some wine...and i think i had a mojito with a meal once...but never more than one drink, eek! but no more.
@Binakwan - I'm one of the few Asians that cannot squat properly. I just fall backwards.
@ABSOLUTmichael - good for you!
Oh, dear. Great storytelling but sorry you had to live that experience. I recall the only time I ever got seriously sick from drinking, but won't relate it here...
never got drunk. always too scared to loose control and do what you did. hope the smell didn't linger.
