The winds of cutbacks are blowing hard across the plains of my company. The chit chat, instant messages and phone calls with colleagues have started to increase about a month ago or so ago. The trouble is, you never know who has accurate information and who's just repeating what they've heard. But the jungle drums continue to rumble.
But first, I gotta take care of my stomach rumbling.
Beef stew - great for winter. I got the beef from Costco so I have lots leftover which
are now in the freezer.Soup - wintermelon with pork meatballs. The stock is made from pork bones, ginger, dried scallop and mushroom stems. The texture of the pork was very smooth. I added a bit of shrimp in the meatballs too. I had to search my memory banks but here's what I did. I added a little bit of water to the ground pork, the usual sesame seed oil, corn starch, soy sauce, pepper, green onions & finely diced salted / preserved turnip. I also had to toss it (hard) about 20 or 30 times into a big metal mixing bowl (just be careful it doesn't splatter). I think this helps tenderize the meat. I also added some egg white too and mixed it into the ground pork.

Our company also is cutting back sharply. Cancel projects, freeze travel and hiring. I do not think I will get any bonus this year. As long as there is no layoff, I would consider that lucky.
Your nice food pictures make my mouth water too. Yummy fried rice. Stew is even better as leftovers. Winter melon is my favorite soup. When are you inviting us to enjoy tasting your cooking?
These are all yummy home cooked meals I used to enjoy back home...did you learn that from your parents?
Don't let those rumblings interrupt your good work....so long as I keep ourselves busy, I'll be happy!
@stevew918 - the picture looks nice. How it taste is a different story.
@curry69curry - cooking lessons & tips from mom... supplemented by cookbooks, FoodTV and just reading stuff on the net.

yeah even in australia there's talk of recession and cut backs. the proof is in how few jobs are being offered these days. apparently, new south wales (my state) is currently in a recession.
you put so much effort into your food, it's really great to read about it. this makes me feel guilty of the things i did as a child "mum i'm hungry!", then mum says "eat, i made you food, it's on the table".. i look at it and say "i'm not hungry anymore".
I am so hungry right now, not a good time to look at those delicious photos.
Love the fried rice and beef stew! Yummy. The drums can be misread but they will always be there.
ugh, cutbacks... never good.
the food looks delicious, especially the wintermelon soup. yum!
yum. fly some over to LA

@tomatoboi - well,they look kinda plain but tasted just fine.
@GracePrince - I hope it's just rumors too.
@stepaside_loser - hahaha... I got used to mom cooking dinner so quickly when she came home from work that I took it for granted. Now I know how much of a hassle it was and understood why she wanted to get take out food more often.
@Dezinerdreams - mmm.... can you smell the food?
@Fatcat723 - the beef stew was very good especially in this cold weather.
@kunhuo42 - yeah.. the soup was pretty good too, one of my better soups.
@alchemystfury - I'll have to FedEx it over while you finish your project!
@onmovement - thanks.
@ABSOLUTmichael - I have to change the brand of rice, this one is a bit too sticky. But other than that, it was fine.
ah yes, been there, done that ... last Tuesday actually

Those look tasty. I look forward to the day I can sit and take notes while you are cooking.
*drooooooooooool* that all looks so good!!
lovely home cooking.....all looks yummy, and the Winter Melon Soup in Winter sounds quite interesting....because years ago the old chinese said we eat food according to the season and all the Melon foods are considered as ingredients for Summer dishes. Nowadays becos of the advance technology we can have food all years round
@agmhkg - melons are for summer? yikes!
@smeeta - *wipes drool*
@christao408 - looks can be deceiving.
@piyapong - more drooling? hee hee
@AppsScraps - hopefully it was cooking you are referring to and not cutbacks / layoffs.
