  • Some strange things

A couple of odd events have happened to me lately.  One was a strange dream.  I was carrying a baby and walking in a very dimly lit street.  I was trying to get home but there were these big dogs that darted in and out of the shadows.  They were stalking me.  I kept looking back but could only see fleeting images.  When they got closer, I turned to confront them and to yell at them.  To my horror, I had no voice.  I woke up and while most of the images from the dream slowly melted away, the feeling of helplessness and being vulnerable lingered on for quite some time.

The second event happened a couple of weeks ago.  I slept in just a bit.  But I was woken up by a woman’s voice by the foot of my bed.  I started to respond with an sleepy “Ok… I’m up.”  But I never finished the sentence.  I knew I was alone.  But the voice was loud and clear.  It’s happened to me before a couple of times already.  Each time, it happens just as I'm on the threshold of being fully awake.

  • My fortune-teller told me about dogs in your dreams, not a good omen. But if you dream of poop, then it bids fortune $$$.

  • one time i heard the door knob of my room squeaking -the sound it would make when it turns- and i thought it was my mom coming to check up on me at night. It was 3 am. I was playing games on computer but with the lights off but I heard it turn.. and I got up to open the door to see what my mom wanted. I grabbed the handle and pulled but the door wouldn't budge. I don't have any locks on my door. And so I let go of the handle and I waited 1-2 seconds and tried it again. The door opened normally this time but as soon as the door opened up, a gush of wind blew into my room and rattled some papers in my room. It was weird, it's a house, all the windows and doors are closed, there shouldn't be gushes of wind and especially ones that powerful.

  • @curry69curry - no poop from the dog or the baby I was carrying.  Hmm....

@MadaMadaDan3 - omg, that is creepy.

  • =S the second one sounds scary. But Mine was scarier, I didnt know if I told you already ( I think I did ) , about I head someone called my name when i was locking the door story...

  • ur 2nd event really scares me........specially u said u heard it when u're awake.....

  • #2 sounds like sleep paralysis. hallucinations sometimes occurs during sleep paralysis. I've heard voices before too. Really scary feeling! I keep telling myself that it's all science but it's easier said than done.

  • I don't do dream analysis nor have ever had mine done. I figure it is the brain on a trip and combining several memories.

  • nobody really understands what the brain is doing when it goes to sleep...  all kinds of strange things can happen.  then again, nobody really knows if the supernatural (like ghosts) exist either.  growing up in hawaii, you gain a healthy respect for the supernatural.

  • @zozoyork - yeah, I remember that story.  But I bet now the voices are going "macrons... macrons... where are they?"

@agmhkg - actually I'm not all that spooked by the 2nd event.

@JonasApproved - maybe it's that stage we past through just before we wake up - sort of between the subconscious and conscious.

@Fatcat723 - same here, I am never sure what those dreams mean, if anything at all.  Maybe it's just the brain unwinding after a long day.

@kunhuo42 - hmm... have you had an encounter back home?

  • @MadaMadaDan3 - I suppose you've gone too much into your games...LOL

  • Why are you not spooked at all by the 2nd event?

  • Interesting... quite vivid.

  • @Wangium - it didn't sound threatening.  Although the voice didn't sound like my mom, it reminded me a bit of how she used to wake me up when I slept in.

  • @ElusiveWords - nothing happened to me, but you hear about a lot of crazy things happening, and a lot of people still have respect for the ancient traditions and religion.  when you grow up surrounded by that, you tend to at least respect other people's beliefs and learn not to tempt things by trying to "prove" that the supernatural does or does not exist.

  • @kunhuo42 - Interestingly similar to Thailand.  Lots of overlapping belief systems and the general take of the locals is, "They might be right - why take the risk?" and then they go ahead and respect that additional belief.  Lots of superstitions here.  Fate, luck, karma and destiny are all dealers at the Thai card table of life.

  • Matt, that first one is quite frightening.  I wonder what your subconscious is trying to work out?  Maybe some feelings you're having about your father's advancing age?  You trying to protect him from the ravages of time and declining health?

Isn't it strange, though, how the feelings remain after the dream/nightmare, just as vivid as if they were brought about by conscious events?

  • omg are those the "entity attack" things? so scary! =(

  • @christao408 - I'm not really sure what to make of them nor do I know how to interpret dreams.

    @onmovement - I don't think so... hmm... I usually say a prayer before I go to sleep.

    @mmmagination - it's a good thing this doesn't happen every night.

  • dreams are a powerful thing!

  • that's what i notice too, it seems that whenever i dream, i don't have a voice just mouths open.

  • Dreams are sometimes very scary. I have similar spooky dreams (very often) and like you said, it is usually when I am about to wake up.

  • i had had a dream that i could not speak!! anyway it's juat dreams after all... take it easy =)

i have moved to blogspot... saw your comment there...thanks...  do come more often when you are free =)

  • i wish i didn't read the second one at this time of night....

  • Had similar dreams but with different themes.
I call those "emotion dreams" where a strong primary emotion will linger on after I wake up.  I had ones that are "anger", "frustration", "helplessness", "romantic" (not wet dreams you know, *wink*), etc.
I do enjoy the intensity of it as usually my emotion is kinda "flat" (in comparison).

Maybe you were transported back in time in that half awake half asleep state...
Maybe you were dreaming.... ( I dreamed of waking up at my old place back in HK when I was a kid and took a shower to get ready for school before I wake up this morning for work... )
    Maybe your mom visited...
*shrug* nice to have some mysteries in life to remind us things are not as plain as we think they are. ^^

  • Creepy.  You need to find a good dream interpreter. :S

  • That is really weird. I wonder what those dreams mean. I rarely have dreams or remember them and I try not to get to work up over it.

  • As soneone else said, your second experience sounds like something that often accompanies sleep paralysis (though the two can be mutually independent) called a night terror. It's something like a timing belt error in an engine. Your brain has a mechanism that "disconnects" your normal reactiosn to things when you dream, so that old joke about dreaming about eating a giant marshmallow and you wake up missing a pillow, doesn't happen. You wouldn't want to have a nightmare and begin running around your room in your sleep (the mechanism that prevents that is the same one that causes sleep paralysis). A night terror happens when the part of your brain that interprets reality doesn't get shut down, and interprets dreams as reality. So you actually HEAR the audio parts of the dream (you can have visual hallucinations too), and often they're loud yells, bangs, someone calling you, or other jarring noises; you also then react to them as you would any real thing when you're awake... so when you know you're alone and you hear someone calling you, it's bloody terrifying.
I read up on both of these things a lot, because I went through a bad bout of it a while ago.  It can really screw up your sleeping patterns. It's funny, but silly things like making sure your door is locked and things are shut off  before you go to sleep, can help prevent them.

  • I went through a similar period a while back.  Dreams can be so vivid it's scary sometime.

  • hhmm... stress could play a number of odd things to your head.  have you been under stress lately?  either that or you have an invisible roomate you didn't know about.

  • @rudyhou - stress, yeah, there's a bit of that lately.  As for invisible room mates, they better start chipping in for my mortgage, hydro and food!

@CareyGLY - I've never slept walk (knock on wood).  I have a funny feeling, you'll be blogging in your sleep next while belting out some ABBA tunes.

@Binakwan - hmm... that's interesting.  I'll have to do a bit more reading on this topic.

@Nickolaj - yeah, I don't have a clue how to interpret dreams either.

@brooklyn2028 - Actually, after I wrote about it, any anxiety I had about those dreams faded away.

  • @ZenPaper - well, whatever they really were, my take is to simply enjoy it or write about it.

@stepaside_loser - nothing to be scared about.

@lcfu - boy - you do take a lot of pics!
