Challenging job situations
My brother and sister are in very stressful job situations. Both have seen their companies hit hard by the recession. I was talking to my sister the other night. She told me her manager had a major disagreement with the owners of the company and has submitted her resignation. My sister is updating her resume and started to job hunt although she was told her job was safe. Shortly after that, she found her job posted on one of the online job sites. She was told the other day that all vacations have been canceled. What a bummer...
At dinner the other night, my brother recounted the many layoffs in his company. He had worked hard to turn around one division and they are now very profitable. But headquarters came in and made a decision to shut that down. His exec got moved out to another position while my brother's position was being re-evaluated. One manager came in from the US and criticized him for running a sloppy operation. After 3 rounds of layoffs, you would think someone in management would understand that the work doesn't go away. There aren't enough people left to do the job.
But they're tough ... I know they'll survive.

God Willing they will continue to hold their jobs. Just need to keep their eyes and ears open for opportunities. I wish them well. Don't stress your self out darling. Be happy they both have jobs.
@lcfu - thank you fufu.
@onmovement - well, I hope nothing bad will happen to you as well. Hang in there.
@ZSA_MD - thank you Zakiah - I hope things turn out ok for them. They are tough and resilient.
Best of luck to all Matt. When one door closes....
good luck...getting laid off is no fun...i been through that and now hope i don't have to go through that again in the near future.
yikes! sorry to hear about all the job troubles... in this economy, i'm very thankful that i'm still a student right now!
@CareyGLY - yep, when one door closes, kick the next one open!
@icebladz - I remember one time my sister got laid off. She told me her HR rep was so nervous and emotional. My sister had to console the HR rep, telling her "It's ok... I know this is not your decision. Just give me the paperwork to fill out..."
@icebladz - thank you. I hope things are going well at your end.
@kunhuo42 - thanks Aaron, how much longer will you be a student before you have to become a mercernary like us?
@ElusiveWords - hahaha i wish i knew the answer to that question, but i don't.
good times or bad, one should always have their resume ready and be actively seeking opportunities.
Good luck to brother of Matt and sister of Matt!
@AppsScraps - thank you... which reminds me that I still need to polish my resume a bit more.
I've seen family as well as friends walk forced to walk away from jobs they've had for many years. It is scary for all of us. Working hard for years only to be let go, or over looked.
best of luck to you, and to those close to you Matt.
With fingers crossed we'll get through this.
Be well,
*~matthew~*
@bleuzeus - thank you - I think they'll pull through. They are like my dad - pretty toug. Rule #1 - you gotta always look out for yourself no matter what company you work for.
These are definitely stressful times for workers. I hope your borther and sister ride out these rough waves smoothly.
I hope they manage fine.
PS: I am nervous reading this. It's intimidating for someone who is going to start job hunting after graduation!
