I ducked again
The axe swung at work again. I ducked and survived. I'll move to another manager. Others weren't as lucky and I just hope they'll land on their feet elsewhere. I think one of the reasons why I survived is that I busted my butt last year. I just had an awful workload for a variety of reasons. If I had sought a lighter workload, I'm not sure I would be writing this entry. Now I have to figure out more ways to be more efficient. My bf and I joke about this when we watch 24. He uses Jack Bauer as an example. "Look at Jack. He can do more in 1 hour than a lot of other folks. You need to be more like him." I think I may have to carry a gun and bash a few heads in.
Am I lucky, good, or simply in the right place at the right time? Who knows. I've booked some time to meet my new manager. We've crossed paths quite a few times already so he's not a stranger. But someone told me today that he's an early bird. He's been known to have calls as early as 5:30 or 6AM with other early birds. There's no way I'm gonna wake up that early. If I do, I hope pajamas are acceptable office attire.
(editors note: Matt doesn't even own any pajamas. You'll have to guess what he sleeps in.)

invisible PJs!
@ElusiveWords - hahaha I wish!
universal rule in work: always beat your boss to work
@caihwei - our managers have employees in different time zones too.
@tomatoboi - hee hee....
wow, that would be quite a sight if you wear your "pajama" to work, hehe. Happy you survived, as I am trying to survive here.
Sounds like you're irreplacable! Cue Beyonce!
You sleep naked!
Nice work, Matt. Who knows what did it but it couldn't have hurt that you worked your arse off, and me thinks you're a little modest about how good you are at work.
I'm surprised, actually, that lay-offs are that common. I know that I should know better since I'm a business student, but it really surprises me that companies really have to let go so many people. I hear that the redundancy packages they give out are so expensive and once the economy picks up twon't they have to hire people again anyway?
Good to know that you survived. I loved the editors note- so funny!
well, it just shows that all that hard work paid off... for which i'm glad; i remember you complaining about having an enormous work load several times over the past year. eww... i hate bosses that start early. i love my boss; if he actually makes it in to work, we'll be lucky to see him walking around at noon eating his breakfast. then again, it does make for some late nights in the lab... ah well.
It seems to me that work places nowadays are playing 'musical chairs' and I hope the game is going to end soon. I'm happy to know that you've survived another round. Your editor's note is an icing on the cake!
Wooh, congratulations...
I am guessing Matt sleeps in this:

Oh honey I am so happy for you. If you went to work early, could you leave for home before others do? I am glad that you survived. They must think highly of you to keep you within their system. My love and best wishes to you Matt.
@stevew918 - I hope you'll soon past the surviving stage and into the thriving stage.
@CareyGLY - not quite irreplaceable but I appreciate the compliment.
@stepaside_loser - some of the work is moving to other countries so it's unlikely that these jobs will be replaced. There will always be some jobs that will be difficult to replace though. At least in my company, once you're let go, it's unlikely you'll be hired back.
@Dezinerdreams - I'll need to teach that editor to be a bit more discreet.
@kunhuo42 - late nights at the lab, you may not work in a corporation but you work similar long hours.
@curry69curry - I'm glad I survived this round. I'm sure there will be many more rounds to come. Sometimes you just got to have a sense of humor to survive.
@Wangium - thanks Jason. Lol at that bear sleeping bag... I've never seen anything like it.
@ZSA_MD - I hope they do think highly of me. I have to remain adaptable. I leave early sometimes but resume work once I get home. Thank you for your kind words - much appreciated.

@ElusiveWords - hm oh i guess that's right, they can give the jobs to people who will get paid less.
Woohoo! Hard work pays off! ^_^
PS. You should acquire some sexy PJs for work
I am happy and glad that you are hanging in there!
nah, you're just too good. i always wondered how many of us think they're lucky or just in the right place about work. think about it, it went through a process and not just random selection. give yourself more credit (and tell your bf, here's someone in xanga who believes you can do way better than jack).
@AppsScraps - phew is right!
@Rm2046 - lol... sexy PJs. I'll probably get Batman PJs. hahahaha
@dolphin27 - thank you.
@Renatojr3 - thank you for your confidence. When I see those that were let go, I know they are very good people too.
Glad your head didn't roll. What is it you do?
Congrats on surviving...hope this will all be over soon and we won't ahve to worry about getting axed anymore.
glad to hear the axe missed you, matt. whatever you've been doing, keep doing it. it seems to work so far. and oh, i'm not an early bird myself and don't own a pj either. so, yeah, i can guess...
Matt,as far as what you sleep in, I belive nothing without photographic proof.
(that is a slight hint to get the camera out, ha)
Congrats at keeping the job, I'm sure they're just as lucky to have you as you are to have the job.
Be well,
*~matthew~*
Glad you're safe! Working hard paid off! But I wonder what this has caused. You wrote again so it's not the first time that the company has shifted people or laid them off. If I worked there, I would be a bit concerned about my job. Hope all the changes were communicated properly so that moral won't go down. Best of luck with your new manager.
@icebladz - it seems to be worse every quarter. We have a lot of jobs being transitioned to other parts of the world.
@rudyhou - I guess I'll just keep taking those long coffee breaks so the executioner can't find me.
So you have no PJs too.... hehe.
@bleuzeus - lol... I'd rather write a thousand words than post a picture. hahaha...
@mmmagination - this stuff happens pretty quickly so people don't dwell about it. If you are seriously going to pursue HR as a career, you'll likely get involved in these programs. There's a script that managers are given ("talking points"); a scripted email - that's about it. The good managers usually will have meetings with the survivors (either as a team meeting or 1/1) to help move forward and sort out new assignments, new workload etc...
good news
..keep your hard work and hope for the best!!
you're a nudie pie when you sleep...obviously.
