  • 1 part cleaning and 10 parts procrastinating

I am trying to clean my bedroom today and to clear out some of the clutter and old clothes that I have.  I generally don't like throwing out old clothes but I have no more room.  Condo space is at a premium so I have to declutter.  I figure if I haven't worn something in 3 or 4 years, I'll never wear it.  There are old sweatpants (5) - so I guess I'll keep just a couple.  I have a few fleece throws so some will be donated.  But this weeding process is daunting.  It's not physically difficult but emotionally challenging.

As my bf will tell you, I'm generally a messy person.  Although I prefer the term - free range and flexible organizational method.  So while my bedroom is tiny, it feels as if I'm stepping into an airline hanger with a toothbrush and orders to clean the floor.  I decided to rethink my priorities.

Well - history was being made with the Sotomayor hearings.  So I tuned into CNN.  But the announcers at CNN have turned into windbags so I watched the live feed from their website instead.  Lunch time came and I made sure I had a nice long leisurely lunch.  I glanced at my bedroom and ignored its desparate pleas.  As I was clearing out some junkmail, I noticed a card for a newly opened coffeeshop.  I haven't noticed this before.  Since I didn't have my coffee yet I decided to check it out.  While I was sipping my coffee, my bedroom called.  "Oh Mattie .... when are you coming to bed?  Mmmm...it's so lonely over here.  I just miss your manly presence.  I've been saving it up for you."

I rushed right back to my condo.   Sigh... it was all a trick.  The only thing my bedroom had saved for me were these gigantic dustballs.

Well - I guess I better stop writing and get back to cleaning.

  • It sounds like the pack rat in you is having trouble letting go.  As long as you don't rent some storage space and keep accumulating stuff it's fine.  I do my "periodic" sweeps (space is at a premium) to donate clothes that either don't fit or that I never quite used (I hate that waste of money).
As per CNN ... it's becoming too much of a cross between E! and a news network it's pathetic.  There's plenty of real news out there and they seem to spend endless time on Michael Jackson and other trivial stuff.

  • I can totally relate to the free range and flexible organizational method!

  • Well, thanks for sharing. This reminds me it's about time to 'de-mess' my bedroom. There are a number of 'unidentifiable objects' sitting underneath my bed which I need to take care!

  • How about getting rid of stuff that is out of fashion?
    I'll help you with that

  • @TheLatinObserver - I think I need to do this more frequently.

    @ZenPaper - hahaha... I thought you changed?

    @curry69curry - I hope they aren't "toys".  hahahaha

@Wangium - ouch... that would mean 80+% of my clothes.

  • my bedroom has been calling me for well over 3 years I think.
I just don't know where to start anymore...
I'm definitely a pack rat... which is not very good =S

  • @tomatoboi - I think it's better if you can budget a few minutes a day to clear out stuff.  Good luck!

  • Man...you are gay.
It's our responsibility to be presentable.
I am not asking you to wear something that is ultra chic, but you must not wear things that are outdated unless you are being fashion forward and wearing what's in the past because it's coming back in fashion.
Don't make me drag you to gay lao-gai (force labor camp in China for brain washing)

  • Just kidding...

but really...do you wear those stuff that are outdated outside?

  • @Wangium - Where to sign up for that gay lao-gai?  I still have t-shirts 10+ yrs ago that I still wear OUTSIDE!  Sometimes I doubt if I am gay or not just for that!

  • have fun decluttering...maybe you should call your bf over and have time clean out your clothes for you.

  • hahahaha  i know the feeling matt...  i've been trying to work up the motivation to keep unpacking and cleaning up the house after our move....  i give you much credit for trying to clean on a weekday!  for me, nothing gets done around the house unless it's a weekend.

  • Get your bf to do the uncluttering. He will know how to throw things out, and you won't have to feel bad about doing it yourself.

  • @Wangium - HAHAHAHAHA.... oh Jason, yeah... guilty.   As for your question on whether or not I wear those clothes outside; I think I'll plead the Fifth.

@icebladz - he came over and couldn't believe the mess I made.

@kunhuo42 - I actually took a few days off to do this.  My weekends are just as busy.

@ZSA_MD - he did come over, he doesn't understand how one person can create such a mess.  He has a walk in closet so it's not fair.  (gee... was I whining?)

  • "Free range and flexible organizational method" - I love it!  Finally, I have a way to explain myself to Tawn.

@Wangium - Didn't realize you are such a fashionista, Jason.

  • @christao408 - lol... just from looking at the pictures in your condo, I would say you are very neat and tidy.  Oh... just tell Tawn you still have some residual "farangness".  I'm sure he'll understand.

  • LOL @ "free range and flexible organizational method".  I am so like this too! My room might look unorganized to a visitor, but I know what is where!

  • Time for a Roomba! :)

  • Oh stop whining, Matt--it can't be too hard?? :P

BTW, I like your new Xanga layout, very nice.

Trick yourself into thinking that you have a short amount of time to clean and pretend it's exercise or something.... I hope your next blog will be something along the lines of "My bedroom is as clean as a whistle! I can't believe it!".

  • I should follow your example.. but then again I don't see it happening any time soon.Best of luck to you though. :)
    Have a rockin' weekend,
    Cheers

  • @Dezinerdreams - I'm almost like you.  I don't know where everything is.

@CareyGLY - I need Weapons of Mass Organization.

@stepaside_loser - maybe you can come over and show me.

@bleuzeus - you have a great weekend too!  I'm still struggling with this.

  • free range and flexible organizational method??  lol... i prefer the simpler term "orderly-challenged".

  • @rudyhou - well, my descriptions makes me sound more artsy.... hahaha.

  • gigantic dustballs... classic :)

  • @derekml - I'm gonna collect them and make a pillow out of them!
