  • Has this Xanga experience happen to you before?

I’ve been blogging for almost 4 years now.  Here are some of my my experiences on  Xanga.  I don’t know if it has happened to you as well.

    1.  You spend hours and maybe days writing and editing an entry.  You’ve polished it, proof read it and it’s almost done.  As you’re checking your subscriptions, you read someone else’s blog and they wrote an entry on the same topic.  But their entry was clearer, more carefully thought out, more eloquent and better written than yours.  You end up liking their entry better than what yours.

    2.  You read someone’s entry and you have just the perfect comment including a great comeback or a joke.  As you hit the button to go to the comments, someone else has already added a comment with exactly what you wanted to say… including your joke.  Everyone loves that comment too!

    3.  As you’re commenting on other blogs, you notice this person has commented on almost every blog you’re about to comment on.  You wonder if they are on Xanga 24 hrs a day.

    4.  You discover a new blog.  As you read several entries – you like what you have read or the pictures they have posted.  You give yourself a slap in the back for finding something new to read.  So you subscribe to them.  As you’re about to add your first comment, you noticed some of your regular subscribers have already “found” this blog.  In fact, they are all regulars here too!  You feel like the last person on earth to find out about things.

    5.  You’ve finally written an entry that you believe will garner lots of comments and make you a true Xanga celebrity.  You submit it and wait for it to show up on the Featured Blogs.  Nothing happens.  You get a few comments here and there.  No one else seems to have noticed your killer entry.  You feel so sheepish aftewards thinking you can pull sonmething like this off.  You wonder why Xanga’s top blog isn’t a blog – it’s just a poll.

    6.  You’ve read all your subscriptions and commented on everything, including other people’s comments.  You’re bored and waiting for your favorite bloggers to write something…. anything, even a pulse.  But they all seem to have lives except for you.

    7.  You’re writing an entry and the words come out so effortlessly.  As you take one last look at the entry, you have this feeling of deja vu.  You check your old entries and sure enough – you wrote something similar.  You feel so silly afterwards.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  • LOL … I feel like less of a blog addict now.  I can relate to 4 but then again I wasn’t as involved with Xanga until 2007.  Also number 5, some of the entries that I’ve spent a lot of time writing get almost no feedback and those where I spent little time get lots of comments. Three and six are two sides of the same coin haha … I can “almost” relate at times. I’ve been afraid of number 7 … sometimes I consider an entry and I think … “have I written about this?”
I’d add that the Xanga blogs which originally got me interested in this community have either died or get updated like four times a year so one needs to keep finding new ones, mostly from comments in the blogs one reads which means one just gets deeper into a particular circle of bloggers.
    Oh well.

  • I have a feeling that this post will be featured just like your last one. >=]
Imagine my surprise to see you last post FEATURED!
    Don’t be a xanga whore! =P
(have to admit I am a bit jealous of your “success”) hee hee hee

For me, blogging is still primarily for my own benefit, a way for me to download stuff in my head
*shrug* perhaps as a record or just ranting.  I’m relieved to know it can take days for people to write their entry as mine took me a lot of time to write (me slow writer and ESL student eh)

I believe we are a community though and people of the same feather do tend to flock together.  Not surprising to see people I know reading blogs I like as well.

You know what, I think addicted to xanga is a bit more healthier than say addicted to WOW! (sheepish grin) or facebook or what have you! =P

I ALWAYS have a fear that I am repeating myself even in my blogs. I recycle old stories to people who have heard it many times.  That is why I have “deja-moo” on my title warning people I might be rehashing the same bull shit again and again.. hee hee hee

I always look forward to your blogs (when I am on xanga)

  • every day…  =)  except in regards to number 5.  i don’t ever want to be featured.  hehe.

  • @TheLatinObserver - I’m off for a few days so I have some time to write.  There are a few bloggers who have stopped completely and I absolutely enjoyed reading their stuff.  I’m always on the lookout for new blogs to read.  I’m grateful that I’ve found your blog.  I’ve seen your comments on Mike’s blog a few times and wished I had checked out your blog sooner.

@ZenPaper - oh Evan… I’m no whore.  The street corner where I work is very quiet.  Being featured doesn’t do anything for me.  My wealth remains the same.  It doesn’t make me healthier.  Well – any addiction is not healthy.  We all have to keep things in perspective.  I finally know what deja moo means!

  • @piyapong - lol… one day you just might show up on the list.

  • @ElusiveWords - oh no, i can imagine a mass exodus from xanga already.  haha.  =)

  • Who’s your mental twin that wrote all your entries and comments?

Yes, I am on xanga at least 8 hours a day at work

  • @Wangium - hee hee… I wish I had a twin or a clone that can do all this stuff.  With my luck though, he’ll just be a lazy as I am.

  • Thanks for the encouragement. It took me a while to really get started since my first post but I’ve made it a routine.  Reading blogs provides me with a nice break at work when I need to cleanse my mind of business related stuff and actually write something other than business BS or semi-legal (I’m not a  lawyer).

  • Well, I meant the guy you came across that already blogged on the same topic or wrote the same comment you were about to write♦

  • Only 2 and 3.

  • Numbers two, three and four happen all the time to me Matt.  And you want to know who that other Xangan tends to be?  You!  =D

  • @Wangium - I’m looking at one of the culprits.  Yes, you with the guilty look.  lol…

@christao408 - nah… you, Jason, Gary, Zakiah, Sheldon (just to name a few) are guilty of this too!  *gives innocent look*

  • i was just going to write a post like this…

  • @onmovement - hahahaha  … good one.  Have a great weekend.

  • Only number 6 applies to me! :)

  • #4 happens to me before.

  • @christao408 - @ElusiveWords - Ummmhmmm…

No wonder Matt’s been commenting everyone faster than anybody lately

  • 2,3,4,5 and 6!!! And it’s mostly you and Chris when it comes to it!

  • @ElusiveWords - Is that an emoticon halo that just blinked on over your head?

    @Wangium - He’s trying to out-draw us!

@Dezinerdreams - Now, now… It is Matt who is nearly always the first commenter on everyone’s blog entries.

  • I used to be like that, but haven’t been, in like ages.

  • When I first started blogging here I was guilty of all of them. Now, hey what you read is what I think lol! PS. finally walking without a cane!!

  • Ah wow(: I believe everything on that list applies to me! I’ve only been using xanga since about… I think November 2008 but it’s so easy to experience the things you’ve listed! (In my opinion…)

  • I guess I’m glad that I can’t relate.  but thanks for making me feel better about my addiction to alcohol vs. my addiction to xanga.

  • In this case, get off the computer, do something worthwhile, and come back to blog about it. Works every time.

  • LOL Yup a lot of those were very familiar.

  • numbers 1, 2, and 5 yes yes yes!!!!  *sigh* so true, but it makes me saddd :D

  • 6… oh so often. makes me feel like a loser :P

  • oh #2 has happened to me a couple of times.  Great minds think alike!

  • That would be yes to all but one of them. Oh that favorite blog entry that had almost no comments. I reposted it 2 years latter and it made featured and had well over 300 comments. And it was only on the front page for 3 days.

So repost that favorite entry, after a year of so it is not like many of the same people are going to read it

  • lol.  there are one or two up there that I can definitely relate to believe me.

  • Exactly!  Like a fly on the wall!

  • #7 definately..haha.

  • used to  happen to me…however lately with the problem of my browser and xanga, they happen less…..

  • Matt, the new Xangalebrity?

  • 1, 2 – no.

    3 – occasionally (and I have to admit I think it’s sad).

    4-7 – never.

ps. colour picking I leave to G

  • @kachino - hee hee… I often wonder how folks can be on Xanga all the time.  But one day when I worked from home, I had Xanga on and checked it every so often.

@stepaside_loser - this shouldn’t come as a surprise to you but I always look forward to your entries.

@stevew918 - ahem… I see you commenting on a lot of blogs, often on blogs I just “discovered”.

@Dezinerdreams - moi?  innocent me?  I think you meant only Chris!

@bella_esperanza – good, you are able to balance Xanga with other priorities in your life then.  Thanks for dropping by.

@Fatcat723 - oh it must be great to free yourself from that cane!

@Sorrows_xx_Soliloquy - I still get a big kick out of blogging.  Thank you for the comment.

@average_female - well – addictions aren’t healthy but Xanga is probably better than alcohol.  No?

  • @Meowmeowkimmaee - yeah, it always help to get away for a while and not let blogging control you.  Thanks for your thougths.

@Simbathe2nd - glad you liked it, thank you for the comment.

@one_eared_batman - interesting Xanga name and very original.

@noree_n - nah… don’t be sad.  When I started blogging, I never got any comments or feedback.  I only wrote for my own enjoyment.  To this day, I feel the comments are a bonus but my primary audience is just me.  Thanks for dropping by.

@n1colee - the other side of the coin is that you like to read interesting blogs – nothing wrong with that.  I guess it’s all about balancing our time on Xanga.  Thank you for your comments.

    @Roadlesstaken - hahaha… I’m not sure if I would call myself a great mind.

@trunthepaige - interesting, I’ve never thought about that.  I don’t think I ever had anything over 40 comments.

@Blue_ButterflyBaby - glad you enjoyed it… thanks for dropping by.

@LifeNeedsProtection - I like your Xanga pic.  I feel like that at the end of the week.

    @musterion99 - thank you.

@lil_squirrel4ever - I think I’m getting old and forgetful sometimes.  I wish Xanga has a warning system so that I know when I’m just repeating myself.  Thanks for the comment.

    @agmhkg - I use Firefox – I don’t think Xanga likes it.

    @alchemystfury - nah… I’m just the same ol’ guy.

@AppsScraps - interesting, I was wondering how 2 creative guys could agree on a color, now I know.

  • @ElusiveWords - I think 40 is a lot of comments. But the front page can go crazy sometimes

  • My fiancee has a habit of reading what I’m writiing behind my back and as I was about to say “I’ve been on xanga for just as long,” she goes and lays down the facts saying how I’ve been here for about 8 years, just under different names. She’s like a backseat driver.
Anyway, I don’t think I have had those experiances. Maybe my sanitity is just gone… LOL
But I do feel like a lot of my older reads seems to have dropped off and stopped xanga. :( That made me sad.

  • @survive_style_five - lol… I guess she’s very precise.  I feel the same way about some of the blogs I used to read.  They just seemed to fall off the earth.

  • Lol….so true!

  • i think we all xangans are guilty of all of the above experiences, or at least most of it.  then again, YOU won’t have to worry much since we always love your blogs and almost always leave a comment or two.

  • @rudyhou - aww… you’re sweet of you to write that…

@JL789 - glad you liked it, thanks for the comment.

  • @ElusiveWords - thanks, matt. i am surprised and it was sweet of you to say that!

  • It sounds as if you may need a Xanga vacation!  ;) Funny blog. though.

  • I don’t like it when I write a long post and then something happens to the browser or I press back by accident and the whole thing gets deleted. If I choose to re-write that entry, it is always shorter than the original.
