  • A bit of this and a bit of that...

You'll likely notice a change in my blogging style until I get a new PC or Mac.  I normally write and save my  rough drafts on my PC.  I usually have a couple of "future entries" on the go.  It's easier for me to go back, rewrite it a few times before submitting it here.  I can't do this on my work laptop.  I don't like having any of my personal stuff on my work machine.  So what you'll see will be pretty well a raw material with some basic wordsmithing.  There won't be any pictures either.  I think most of what you'll read will be "what I did today" type entries.

You know what sucks when you live by yourself?  Coming home to an empty home.  There's no one to greet you when you come home from a trip. Well - a dust ball did roll over to the front door to greet me.  The first thing I did was to call my bf.  Sometimes he tries to time his departure from work so that we'll meet up for dinner when I'm coming back from a trip.  But getting a taxi from the airport took awhile and I think I missed him by 10 or 15 minutes.  Oh well... I did a quick load of laundry, took a shower and went out to get a quick bite to eat.

I doubt if I'll ever be a road warrior.  Traveling on business is a pain.  You gotta haul your laptop around.  You gotta bring along something decent to wear when you meet a client.  There's work to do each night to prepare for the next day's meetings.  There are so many things to do before you leave (like making sure all your produce are consumed).  When you come home, you gotta shop for food.  At least I was able to sleep reasonably well.  They gave me 7 pillows, a bed scarf along with the usual comforter.  I piled all the extra pillows on a chair.  I mean, it looks good but not exactly functional.  But I shouldn't complain - it's still a bit of a perk and I got to walk around a different city.

You see what I mean, these raw entries are a bit confusing to read.  I hope you folks have a great Friday.  I'll try and think of something more creative next time.

  • Oh interesting.  I thought about writing stuff and saving it for later, but I always forget about it.  I end up just writing w/e I got to write right then and there.

  • Hey Matt...where was the trip? And welcome home.

  • Aww...dust ball?! How about acquiring a pet?

  • I like this kind of entry once in a while though.
Gives me an idea of what you do in real life instead of as an observer.

  • I like this kinda entry.. raw and unrefined.. =P
    hee hee hee

I have a lot of entries that have not been edited or refined or whatever...
normally they will be private entries on my xanga until I have time for it.
Jason got one where I accidentally made public and now
he is nagging me about that LOST entry.. oh well..  =P
I should post that one soon =P

    WELCOME HOME!

  • @Roadlesstaken - so that's how you get hundreds of comments.

@macphoto - it was to Ottawa.

@CurryPuffy - I work unpredictable hours so a dog will be squirming in agony by the time I get home to take it out for a walk.  If I have a cat, I'll have to find a spot for the litter box.  And someone will have to look after it when I'm away.

    @Wangium - now you're the observer... and I'm nervous.

  • @ZenPaper - oh just add us to your private list. hahaha... now you got me curious about that forbidden entry.  Thanks - it's good to be home and sleeping in my own bed.

  • Heh. I like this raw style of writing. I come home to an empty house every day too. It's only a temporary thing for you, but try to make the best of it -- nobody to tell you what to do or bother you! Not saying anything against your bf of course, haha.

  • @dynamiqvision - I thought you have a dog?

  • @ElusiveWords - My parents do, at their house. I have nothing in this house unless you count the occasional bug haha.

  • nope, not confusing at all

  • Can't you just save your entries as Private and make them Public when you're ready??

As someone who traveled every week of my life for 13 years solid, I can appreciate this.  Now I'm content with people coming to me!

  • Almost all my posts are of this type. hehe  I get you on the living alone part, when I return to Delhi next month I will be taking a new apartment all alone and I am sort of dreading it.

  • I'm the opposite. I don't live alone (I live in a frathouse), and wish I do everytime I come home. lol can I steal your dustball from you just for a night?

  • Yeah, baby, let's have some more of that raw writing!  =P

  • @ZenPaper - For a while I was using the private posting function to pre-write some of my entries, but I keep forgetting to set them to private, too!

  • Ahh ... this entry sounds to familiar.  No dog, no cat, little food on the fridge ... although I have not been greeted by dustballs!  Frequent business travel takes a toll at many levels.  Do enjoy your bed.

  • I think you write fine, but if criticising yourself helps you improve your writing then don't stop. I enjoy whatever style you write.

I only spellcheck my words and I post them immediately (I know, shock horror!). Straight after posting, I usually reread my entries to check my punctuation and if what I said was clear and I'll edit it.

Based on your passion for writing, I think you'll head into something that revolves around writing. Maybe enter a few competitions held in your country or state/province. Who knows what could happen. I wish you the best of luck. Oh, just for inspiration, I used to post on a poetry website, and I got to know a few members between our comments to one another regarding our poetry. Well, 7 years have elapsed and one of those members has now published 3 books of poetry. Isn't that awesome? I hope that's what happens to you a few years down the track.

  • Have a good weekend!

  • I like your entry - sounds like real life. I come home to an empty house everyday and it sucks!  I used to enjoy traveling but not any more. I am a home body and no pets - well dust bunnies to be sure.

  • Dust ball greeted you? Hope you sneezed a thank you to it!!!

I too think that ten or twelve pillows look good on a well-made bed. But why? What a chore to have to put them back every morning.

  • This post read just fine Matt. :)
I hope you're able to resolve the issue with the PC/MAC soon though
because you need a good place to write where you can save your
personal thoughts, even if you never post them.
I hope your weekend is smashing mate.

  • @tomatoboi -   thank you Franco.

@CareyGLY - oh yes, I almost forgot your former "nomadic" lifestyle.

@Dezinerdreams - I think it hits me more after I've been away.

@Rm2046 - hahaha... sure, you can borrow my dustball anytime.

@christao408 - lol... I don't really have a choice. But I think I'll get some more memory sticks and save it there.

@TheLatinObserver - yeah... nothing like my own bed.  I try to get my dustball to play with the vacuum cleaner while I'm away but so far no luck.

@stepaside_loser - that's a pretty inspiring story.  I hope something similar will happen to me.

    @TheCheshireGrins - I will - you too!

@Fatcat723 - yeah, empty houses can be a drag.  Well - I do have some houseplants but that's about it.

@ZSA_MD - it does give it a very luxurious look but so impractical to sleep on.

@bleuzeus - I'm off to look at computers tomorrow.  I will probably buy a couple of memory sticks to keep my writing there in the meantime.  You have a great weekend too!

  • "You know what sucks when you live by yourself?  Coming home to an empty home." ... Matt, get a pet.

  • hahaha i second appsscraps... get a cat! :) very nice to come home too .

  • "Coming home to an empty home."

it's raw but there's probably no better way to say it...i hear ya...it's the story of my life lol

  • Go Mac!

I don't think I'd mind to be a road warrior haha.

  • @onmovement - oh gee, I missed your comment *sorry*  I forgot that I left my lights on yesterday.  When I came home I thought someone was in my condo.  I actually looked around a bit just to make sure.

@yang1815 - nah... too many hassles.

  • yeah, i never been fond of business trips.  they neither convenient nor relaxing.  i hate carrying a laptop everywhere i go, while suit and tie making me feel very conscious about what i wear and how i wear it.  i have to constantly making sure i won't get a spot of dirt or grease on my clothes fearing that the people i have meetings with would think of me as a slob, plus the clothes washing chore i would have to endure later that evening.  the ironing of shirts n pants every night/morning.  the homework i would have to deal with each night before bed time, meaning that no time to explore the city.  the patience i need to have to endure chit chats during business dinners.  etc, etc...

most people think that traveling for business is a fun thing to do.  they think it's great to be able to hop on a plane and go somewhere and stay in hotels.  they never think of the tedious routines that go with it, the purpose of the trip and the many boring lonely nights in a hotel room.  sigh... its just not the same in comparison to traveling for leisure.

  • @rudyhou - you're right about that.  I carry a small steamer to get the wrinkles out of my clothes.  I've never had luck with the irons at hotel rooms.  The evenings are usually spent getting ready for the next day.

  • sometimes i do that too but find the steamer takes longer to use than a regular iron.  oh well, i never wear clothes that are totally free of wrinkles anyways...
