  • It's Not Time for a New Car

    I've been starting to look at cars to replace my trusty ol' Civic.  But I think my car knows what I'm up to.  In the past few months, when I had to over take some slower cars or just dart out of the way of a potentially dangerous situation or just go flat out, it has responded very well.  My favorite gears have always been 3rd and 4th when I really want to haul ass.  There's nothing quite like hearing the engine growl and scream as the RPMs climb steadily.

    There's just been a few expensive repair bills lately.  So my car is reminding me that it's not time to replace it yet.  It doesn't have GPS, side airbags, electronic stability control, the CD player skips from time to time and it only drinks premium gas.  But it shifts like a charm, growls when it needs to, corners with the best of them and purrs lke a kitten when I want to just want to cruise.

    Ok my loyal friend, you've earned yourself a reprieve.

  • Are you driving a Civic SiR?

  • The Civic is an excellent car and I still miss mine...  Our Cefiro is nearing a dozen years and we keep thinking of replacing it.  In fact, Tawn was the victim of a hit and run yesterday but it only left a minor scratch on the car.  Still don't know what we would replace it with, though, so I'm hesitant to even consider it at this time.

  • LOL! I don't even know how to drive. Yes, it's very weird.

  • Manual?

    When I had an Acura TL, I loved its 2nd and 3rd gears.

    What are you looking at anyway?

  • I'd like to learn manual one day, I only know automatic.

    Yeah, what kind of car would you want next?

    I think you'll get a sports car based on how much you like the grunt and growl of your Civic.

  • I think you are waiting for a future cash for clunkers deal!

  • honda has its value, you can drive it to litterally 200,000 miles or more. My college housemate drove his Honda till 250,000.

  • lol sadly I can't relate since I drive an automatic. If it becomes too much of hassle to keep on repairing it though, then it's probably time to trade in for a new one (hybrid maybe? hehe)

  • Manual Shift Civic that only eats premium gas....Oooooo....so you do drive a SiR....
    Which one is it?  The first generation Coupe, the Second generation hatch, or the Third generation Coupe?

  • Ohhh... try a Mazda3 or VW Golf! Or you want something bigger?

  • My husband drove a Honda Civic for years and then gave it to my son who then drove it for years. after about 120k miles they each have different cars now. But it was really trustworthy.

    This was a cute post Matt.

  • @arenadi - @inchyguy - you guys are scary.  It just isn't possible to know so much about cars.  (it's the first generation).

    @christao408 - oh... I had to google it find out the equivalent name in Canada / US (Maxima).  If it's all paid for and in decent shape, I'd keep it for a bit longer.  That's what I'm doing with my Civic.

    @Dezinerdreams - not weird at all, maybe you're the smart one amongst us.

    @TheLatinObserver - I feel like the clunker.

    @yang1815 - not sure yet, maybe a Subaru or TSX

    @stepaside_loser - maybe, I'm kinda practical so it won't be sport car, but something fun to drive.  I prefer manual but it's tough on stop and go traffic (and inclines).

    @vsan79 - yeah, the engines are pretty good.  I go for regular oil changes and the usual maintenance.

    @Rm2046 - it's paid for and I hate to incur more debt just to buy a new car.  I may settle for a used one but we'll see.

    @mmmagination - hmm... I never considered them before.  I can't get anything too big because it'll be a bit awkward to get into my parking spot in my condo.

    @ZSA_MD - the Mustang!  hahahaha

  • @ElusiveWords - No, the Mustang is only a spring and Summer vehicle, He has a Toyota now. But guess what? our son Sayeed has his hungry eyes on the Mustang. He already has a '07Mustang and now drives a a diferent car,  but he wants the Mustang. I would rather get rid of it. I hear it will fetch a good price.

  • @ElusiveWords - Which Subaru?  I'm a fan of Subarus!

  • @yang1815 - I don't know how reliable the turbochargers are and if they require high maintenance.  I was thinking of the WRX 265.  It's roomy enough for 4, has the AWD that I like, but small enough to dart around and enough storage to haul furniture and stuff.

  • @ElusiveWords - Nah Subarus have been turbocharged for a long time now reliability isn't an issue even if you modify it.  I'm a fan of their turbocharged engines actually.  Might consider one for my next winter vehicle.  Too bad the Legacy doesn't come in station wagons now.

  • take good care of your possessions and they will stick with you for a long time.  that's my motto.

  • @ElusiveWords - Eww...WRX is so ugly...get an EVO =)

  • BTW in the U.S. the Cefiro was rebadged as an Infiniti I series.  Maxima was in Australia.

    Keep the SiR!!!

  • My very first car was a Honda Civic hatchback from the early 90s. I loved that car. I was kind of sad when I had to give the car to my sister even though it meant getting a little bit of a nicer car. Then my sister wrecked the Civic. Grr! Poor little Civic :(
