Cleaning Up After a Fire
There was a fire near my 'hood yesterday. Fortunately no one was injured although several stores and apartments were damaged. It's scary because a fire can quickly spread in those buildings. The fire department is just up the street. I didn't see any of the fire and came by just as they were cleaning up.
In the picture below, you can see the store with the orange and the next 3 stores towards the right
are all affected.
After watching the firemen clean up, I walked down the street to a park and just relaxed.
The park was busy but I was able to find an empty bench. It was good to just sit down and
do nothing. There was a nice gentle breeze that greeted me. The sun had just set but it was
still bright. I could hear music playing softly in the background. The tennis games on the
courts nearby added an odd hollow beat. After letting the tension out, I walked home.
I could hear someone playing the guitar and singing softly. It's the sort of lazy summer
scene that I really want to experience more. I think I want to be like Aaron's cat
and specialize in napping.

if you enjoy lasagna, we could give you the nickname: Garfield
but it's nice to walk once in a while... it helps to slow things down...
@tsotofu - I do enjoy lasagna... a lot. *drool*
Hey, you seem to have left out the picture with you in it.
@Roadlesstaken - lol... I am even careful around store windows.
Good to hear that no one was injured. Fires really do grow quickly, hollywood depictions don't really show how ferocious a fire can be.
It must be wonderful to be a cat (: Or a squirrel for that matter.
Wierd I was at the Island and I saw a huge plume of smoke arise from the city around 7:30 PM and I tried to guess where it was coming from ( I was pretty close in my guess). I didn't catch anything on the news. This must've been the smoke that I saw. I should be a detective.
BTW "Rotate this" totally gave it away.
I had never seen a big fire until one of our local gay bars burned down a few years ago. It was quite a site.

Great shots!
I fear fires as I lost 3 cousins in a home fire. I was only 10 when it happened but I still remember. I love the park, the bench and all that you experienced there. Better the way you described it! I took a nap when I got home
I need to find time to sit in the park, just veg away for an hour once a while, I think it can be a good way to clear my mind, and step back so I can my life priorities more clearly. I have been busy like on a rat race lately. Oops, I better be careful, as you want to be a cat, lol.
Fires are so scary. There was a big fire not too far from my home a while ago. It burned down one of my favorite restaurants. ):
Specializing in napping? How does one get that job? I hope you don't have to be feline...
So, how has life been treating you for the period you were away?
I am happy no one was injured.
You HAVE to take time out like that to just BE. To be alone doesn't mean being lonely, so enjoy the self and even with the hollow sound of the tennis ball in the back ground, you can have moments of peceful meditation.
Was the fire on local news at all?
@AzureRecollections - I think some guy (a DJ) lost all his records. The folks at the apartments above the stores need to find places to live. But at least they got out alive.
@mattdebat - I did see it on the Star's website. I saw the folks from CTV and City down there but I didn't watch the news that evening. I'm guessing you're familiar with that area?
@CareyGLY - I remember that entry - especially the kid with the expensive Canon L series lens!
@Fatcat723 - I'm sorry to hear about your cousins - that's so sad. I'm glad my condo has water sprinklers, smoke detectors and a very loud alarm. I'm envious of your nap.
@stevew918 - it's tough being independent consultant. I hope you're doing ok.
@twentyse7enn - they are scary and I'm thankful that I haven't experience one (and hope I'll never).
@TheCheshireGrins - Get in line... I've got my eye on that job.
@Wangium - well - life has it's ups and downs.
@ZSA_MD - I could have fallen asleep at the bench. But I was scared that someone would steal my camera.
@yang1815 - on the papers... I saw 2 TV reporters on the scene but I wasn't watching the news that night.
it's specially scary when stuff like this happens near to you........just a couple of days ago, after finished exercise at gym and got back to my apartment building, there were police, fire truck, and ambulance at the entrance.....then I saw the policemen came out from my neighbour's suite then I looked down to the main entrance, I saw a dead body being wrapped and put into the ambulance........and later been told the old man had a storke and passed away, luckily it was week-end and his children were around him.....
@agmhkg - oh no! that's horrible... sigh. It is scary when these things happen near you.
Woah, is this Queen Street in Toronto?
@elusivefriends - yes, Queen St. West and Manning. Nice name...
@ElusiveWords - Thank you! It seems that we have similar names, and live close to each other. I am a Torontonian! : )
Here's wishing you weeks, even months of that kind of relaxation Matt.
Have a smashing weekend,
*~matthew~*
