Asian festivals
Here are some pictures of a few things J and I attended. These are from some time ago already.
Korean Dano Festival (Spring Festival) in early June. We went in the late afternoon as the rain came through during the day. The food was interesting but I wasn't that hungry since I had lunch. We wandered around the festival ground, munched a bit on snacks and took in some Korean wrestling. It was a bit chilly in the evening. It's always interesting to wander around the area with many Korean restaurants, shops, bars and stores.
Potatoes in a variety of flavored powders including chocolate too.
Korean wrestling:
We also attended the Taste of Asia in Markham by Pacific Mall. Although there was a lot more food stalls, it was just jammed packed. There wasn't room to move around. Parents with strollers struggled through the crowds. There wasn't really an area to sit down and eat or to take in the festival. Oddly enough there were carnival rides. I would get rid of those and spread out the stalls a bit more. The smelly tofu stalls (2 of them) could be put near the end. They were popular but the smell overwhelmed the stalls nearby.
The food smelled fine but again I had finished lunch and with all the crowd jammed together, it wasn't a great atmosphere. There was also some singers on the main stage but we didn't stay around for them. The other amateur singers seemed to be better. There's still the T & T Waterfront Night Market coming up this weekend. It's an odd place - a bit out of the way with very little parking. I hope the food is going to be good.

We got those fishballs at the end, 6 sticks for 5 bucks!
Looks like a blast!
The food looks good. Too bad you were not too hungry.
I had the absolute best tofu, in Chicago on Saturday.
Haha~the Korean wrestling looks really interesting! @_@
That looks like fun especially that Korean wrestling.
cam we get more pics of the korean wrestling?
i love to go to things like this as they are fun. thanks for sharing
Looks like you had a boring time. You didn't eat the food, experience the music or like the atmosphere. Next time Little Italy puts on a festival, I'll give you a heads up. Maybe you'll have more fun...
mmm....fooooood....
I love festivals. We have Greek- American Indian - Oriental (includes all). I know I enjoy seeking the culture. in the works, food and presentations
that looks like fun to walk around, although with crowds that congested i probably wouldn't hang around very long.
speaking of tofu, i have half a mind to try my hand at making tofu (because i really want to eat tofu fa and you really can't get pre-packaged tofu that is soft and smooth enough). have you ever tried making it?
I freakin love Korean food! But I know what you mean by the tofu sauces being over powering. MMM
STINKY TOFU FTW!!!
FOOOOOOD!!!
that korean wrestling seem similar to sumo
you have to go early when it's less busy!
i'd love to see korean wrestling, but it looks like it would hurt.
smelly tofu sounds interesting
Yum! many my favor stuff, oyster, lamb skewers, Yun Nan noodles.....I feel hungry now.
I always order the shrimp fried rice.
Looks awesome!
Anything around Pacific mall is pretty intensely crowded; I remember having trouble parking there every time I visited, regardless of the time of day.
There's a really cute Korean movie about a chubby boy (Korean wresting is called 'sshireum') in high school who joins his high school team and tries to win a competition to get enough money to pay for a sex change operation. You should check it out.

is that takoyaki i see?
No video of the Korean wrestling? =(
@Roadlesstaken - cheap! Although one year I overheard one of the staff in the booth yell out in Cantonese to the guy selling them "it's not defrosted yet!" But it was too late.
@npr32486 - aside from being over crowded, it's kinda fun trying out the different foods and stuff. I preferred the Korean Dano festival, it was a lot easier to get around.
@ZSA_MD - that tofu dish looked pretty good!
@CurryPuffy - well Gary... hee hee, it was very interesting. I spent most of my time there. *blush*
@Hinase - the wrestling was very interesting to watch.
@wutuwaitn4 - lol... those guys might get angry at me.
@buddy71 - aside from the packed crowds, they are fun.
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - the Korean festival was pretty good, it was pretty spread out. The Taste of Asia was crammed into a very small spot. Even pickpockets had trouble moving around.
@pika_whoosh - the smells were just incredible.... (except for the stinky tofu).
@Fatcat723 - oh, you would love these festivals up here. There's quite a few now.
@kunhuo42 - my mom tried it a few times. It's a lot of work. You need a machine to grind the beans and there's a fair bit of boiling and simmering involved. It's tough getting that silky smooth consistency.
@Ikwa - we had Korean food after the Korean festival...delicious!
@yang1815 - nooo.... I still have not had the guts to try it.
@maniacsicko - it is but they are "tied" to each other.
@robasauruss - they wrestle on sand so it cushions their fall. The smelly tofu lives up to its name.
@wildberrytea - hahaha... if you're hungry these festivals are guaranteed to fill you up.
@RulerofMasons - shrimp fried rice is pretty good!
@oxyGENE_08 - I just went to anther Asian night market. hahaha...
@secade - it's always packed in that mall. Apparently they are expanding and will add more parking. Thanks for the tip on the movie. I'll check it out.
@Renatojr3 - yes it is!
@christao408 - my camera doesn't take videos.
and I ran out of memory in my card. ^ ^
@ElusiveWords - I'm gonna for feed it down your throat!
@ElusiveWords - Well I'm in Asia so there's always Asian Night Markets everyday! :p haha
