Just wondering...
Are Republicans / Tea Party:
a) just a bunch of loonies filled with hatred disguised as patriotism
b) heart is in the right place but misguided and naive
c) just misunderstood
d) the only party that will save America

Eh, probably none of the above. I just don't think people fit in to packages like that anymore. I tend to think so many of those people are being lumped into one group when in reality many of them are really all over the map politically.
@TheTheologiansCafe - I was watching a bit of the debate tongiht and just couldn't connect with any of the candidates at all. I'm not sure why but at times it reminded me of WWE.
a combination of A and B
I think you might be on to a solution here. Lets put them in the ring for a sudden death match and the winner is the nominee.
who knows? They all suck. It's unfortunate.
I can't help but think it's a good thing that the Tea Party isn't a real party, and will fold back into the Republican Party for election purposes.
Wow, really? Are those the only options to choose from?
Mostly B with a bit of A mixed in for good measure. Like many people, they want contradictory things. In the case of the Tea Party, it is limited government and fiscal responsibility, except when it comes to the government services they benefit from and, of course, defense.
A and B
findings from a Harvard/Notre Dame study released recently by two professors of politics on the topic of who are most likely to affiliate themselves with the tea party might be of help. the study points out the tea party is not new. it's a re-branding of the social conservative segment of the republican party and is no more concerned about the economy than other Americans. some excerpts from the New York Times article:
"...past Republican affiliation is the single strongest predictor of Tea Party support today."
"They are overwhelmingly white, but even compared to other white Republicans, they had a low regard for immigrants and blacks long before Barack Obama was president, and they still do."
"Next to being a Republican, the strongest predictor of being a Tea Party supporter today was a desire, back in 2006, to see religion play a prominent role in politics. And Tea Partiers continue to hold these views: they seek “deeply religious” elected officials, approve of religious leaders’ engaging in politics and want religion brought into political debates. The Tea Party’s generals may say their overriding concern is a smaller government, but not their rank and file, who are more concerned about putting God in government."
"This inclination among the Tea Party faithful to mix religion and politics explains their support for Representative Michele Bachmann of Minnesota and Gov. Rick Perry of Texas. Their appeal to Tea Partiers lies less in what they say about the budget or taxes, and more in their overt use of religious language and imagery, including Mrs. Bachmann’s lengthy prayers at campaign stops and Mr. Perry’s prayer rally in Houston."
"While over the last five years Americans have become slightly more conservative economically, they have swung even further in opposition to mingling religion and politics. It thus makes sense that the Tea Party ranks alongside the Christian Right in unpopularity."
I don't see it mentioned in this article but the study also lists approval ratings by Americans of 25 groups. according to that list, at present the tea party ranks last making it less popular than atheists and Muslims.

there are of course dissenting views.
A amd B.
I don't watch these debates any more. Thay are so full of nonsense.
A&B for sure. And no, I'm no Demo/Rep-tard. I'm a freedom fighting LIBERTARIAN! (flexes... falls from muscle cramps)
no idea really
just curious what it'd be like to be a homosexual Atheirst republican - or is that an oxymoron?
MMM well A and B for sure in my evaluation. I fear they may indeed end up running the country!
a, and maybe if i'm feeling generous a little bit of b. but i think there needs to be another option... e. hypocrites.
I don't think it's fair to lump the Tea Party and Republicans together. So I can't answer your question.
I'm thinking various people included are various mixes of the above. I'm sure some people have good intentions. I'm sure others are just mental.
They are just another group of people who lie every time they open their mouths.
some B, a lot of A. Interesting blog. @Grannys_Place -
@kunhuo42 - yeah E, for sure. @Closure_Theory - good call @TheSutraDude - yeah they are a subset of Republicans. I hope they phase out but they probably won't. But they will always be a minority and I think it's good they're around to divide the Repub. party.
Hah, none of the above. They're obviously well studied people who knows what triggers people's emotional strings and what they can lie and get away with in office. All the political talk is a front for them to advance their agenda, mostly related to making more money during and after their terms in office.
Mainly A&B, but also C.
From what I've heard... they're crazy traditional in public, but once the lights are out... they're probably the same people who have accounts on fedlife.com (warning... ehh, nevermind. You should learn something new everyday :])
A + B
