Lousy way to end the week
It's been one of those weeks when nothing seems to go right. It started with stern exchanges between dad and my sister. The entire week was just brutal at work. I took a day and half vacation to take dad to his appointments. Traffic was horrible both times. The week ended with a flood around my washing machine. I tried to wash 3 of my sofa cushions. It seemed like a good idea at the time. They got ripped apart so they are now useless. I found a big puddle of water around my washing machine. The hardwood floors have started to curl. I hauled everything out of the little closet that houses my washing machine and dryer. I used every rag that I could find and slid paper towels underneath the washing machine. I just hope none of the water leaked down to my neighbour. I have a small fan blowing the area and will leave it on overnight.
I hope some time soon, my luck will change.

Ouch... I hope things start looking up.
@democrab - thank you, I hope so too.
Oh no =/ I hope your flooring is not permanently damaged...
Had a bad week too. At least you're not alone =P
Life is like the stock market. When it hits bottom, there is no where else to go but up.
AGH! I would be so upset if the hardwood in my place got wet and curled. :'(
As my monk would say "this too shall pass" and things will get better. *hugs*
I am with you on the flood. My bedroom has been flooded twice, my kitchen twice. I thought the house was gone. But I survived and the floor is curled a little at the ends. The carpet in the bedroom needs cleaned but that will wait until I am sure there will not be a third flood. Hang in there Matt. Take a deep breath. "This too shall pass".
aww... well, it's now the weekend; i'm sure things will improve! spend some time relaxing and getting in so "me" time, and things will definitely start looking better!

Oh, Matt, you're not alone in this flooding thing! One time, my toilet pipe busted and flooded my entire bathroom + bedroom. Much of my clothes in the walk-in closet are ruined too. And then, the water seeped down to the basement. The flooding was inches deep. It was a disaster. Nonetheless, I said to myself,"Water pouring into the house is good...it symbolizes money and wealth in Chinese, right?" LOL.
I guess the saying "'when it rains, it pours" applies to you. Hope things get better! *semi-awkward-hug-with-pat-on-shoulder-then-quickly-part*
Oh, you poor thing! I'm sorry you've had such a lousy week. Wish I could give you a hug then help clean up the mess.
@CurryPuffy - OMG, Gary, the image of toilet water (even if it's clean water) flooding my bedroom and then my wardrobe makes me retch.
Sounds like a bad day or days, indeed, Matt
If only there was a way for your sister and dad to get rid of the intensely bad feelings towards each other.
You know, I'm just thinking, I can't believed we've posted on each other's Xanga for this amount of years now....
@arenadi - there's some warping of the hardwood floors around the washer / dryer area. Some of the drywall is swollen (I'm sure there is a construction term for this). I know there are trays available to capture leaks but I have nowhere to drain it as I'm in a condo. It's an old building too. I may have to talk to the superintendent to see what other residents have done. I hope there isn't any other damage that I can't see.
@npr32486 - let's hope the weeks to come are a lot better.
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - you must have been checking my modest portfolio too.
@brooklyn2028 - yeah, there's a bit of curling and warping and some drywall is swollen with water damage. While I was pulling everything out to clean and dry it, I accidentally knocked over a bottle of liquid cleaner and I guess the top wasn't on securely. So it spilled and another part of my hardwood floors has a small dark stain. I keep telling myself this adds "character" to the floor. Uhm... when you have a chance later on, can you please send me the link to the Buddhist site you read? I know you referenced it a few times in your blog before. I'm just in a lazy mood... hopefully that will pass too.
@Fatcat723 - you're right Rob, I took many a deep breaths. The hardwood floors and material things can be fixed. I just need to focus more on the important things. It was just one of those things that sort of left me feeling a bit bruised and battered.
@ElusiveWords - No problem. Here it is: http://www.dhammaloka.org.au/
@kunhuo42 - thanks Aaron, I did spend a bit of time relaxing last night and felt better.
@CurryPuffy - I'm not sure if that saying is true for burst toilet pipes. That must have been a real headache for you to deal with Gary.
@AppsScraps - I don't think that saying works for lotteries
.
@beowulf222 - thank you for that funny hug.
@christao408 - fortunately the mess wasn't too bad. There is some water damage to the floors and walls. I guess when I renovate this condo, that'll be one of the first things I need to fix.
@stepaside_loser - I hope my sister and dad can sort things out before it gets too late. Yeah Andrew, we've been exchanging comments on each other blog for some time now - thanks for sticking around.
@brooklyn2028 - thanks Sheldon, much appreciated.
@ElusiveWords - You mean human
.
@stepaside_loser - I think so too, Andrew. Indeed, time flies right before our eyes, right?
Very lousy indeed. May your luck change for the better soon!
It's just one of those weeks, let's hope it gets better!
@ElusiveWords - You're welcome. Call me Sheldon (no, not that Sheldon, brooklyn2028, but the Sheldon from BingBangTheory).
Yikes, when it rains eh?
xoxo Matty!
