  • Who are you?

My memory recently has been leaking like crazy.  This morning, I forgot the passwords to my email accounts.  I had just logged off them an hour or so ago and when I went back in – I blanked out.  It was just bizzare.  I had to get the passwords reset for both of them.  At work, I couldn’t remember the name of what’s his face.  I also blanked out on the name of a relative.  Mind you I haven’t seen him in ages.  I could see his face but his name?  It was just a blank.   2 weeks ago, I purchased something for my sister.  I placed it right by the door where I put my keys so I could drop it off for her during the weekend.  I finally remembered to bring it over this weekend.  A few days ago, I was wondering why I haven’t seen the meeting notice for my annual evaluation.  Everyone at work were already talking about their evaluations.  I was going to send a reminder to my manager when I remembered a note he sent a few weeks ago asking us to book a meeting with him for our evaluation.  At a conference call, he said “someone still hasn’t booked their meeting with me yet…”  Oops…

So if you leave me a comment and I just respond with some generic comment (e.g. “that was an interesting comment.”) – chances are, I’ve forgotten who you are.  I mean it’s gotten so bad lately that dad has to remind me of things he asked me to take care of.  He’ll give me this strange look and shake his head.

I can just picture J coming over to visit me. I’ll open the door and not recognize him.  I’ll ask him who he is and what he wants.  Of course with my luck he’ll say  “It’s me!  And I’m here for some sex.” stunned

Anyways, I better start taking my ginko pills again.  At least I remember where I put them.  I better look for my yellow sticky notepads too.

  • Wow dude, that’s pretty bad. Potheads have better memories than that. Has your insomnia gotten even worse?

  • @supanamja - oh…. worse than potheads, that’s pretty comforting.  I’m starting to take melatonin & going to the gym to help reset my body clock.  I always feel as if I’m on Pacific time.  But when I do sleep on the weekends, I sleep for about 8 hours straight.

  • You need to take a break.

  • @ElusiveWords - If you can sleep for 8 hours on a weekend, hopefully it’s just a matter of resetting the body clock… an hour of strenuous (and I really mean strenuous) has a big impact on my sleep (whether I sleep ‘medicated’ or not).

  • @oxyGENE_08 - I think you’re right.

  • When your dad has to remind you, that is bad, hehe. I write down to do list a lot because I do forget. I bet there a way J can remind you who he is, hehe, wink! Enjoy, Mattie.

  • seems your mind is preoccupied a lot lately??   but, if this continues much longer or gets worse, maybe a check up with your doc is in order.

  • I have a bad memory too. I have to write a list down of everything I need to do. Try and get enough sleep =P

  • @stevew918 - yeah, I have a few to do lists on the go… and it is bad when dad reminds me.

@buddy71 - I’m hoping it’s just a combination of stress, lack of sleep and too many things on my mind rather than something worse.  But I’m going to monitor this closely just in case.

  • @Got_Claws - going to sleep can be a battle.  I sometimes toss and turn for a couple of hours before I fall asleep.

  • Haha~you may have too much things going on in your mind! Right?

  • @CurryPuffy - you’re right – I’m really hoping it’s stress and lack of sleep rather than something physically wrong w/ my brain.

  • I’m going to show up at your door and pretend to J. My name does start with a J. -= D

  • @ElusiveWords - I always feel I live in PST too!

Who are you? You really have to introduce me to yourself some day!!

  • Sounds like old age is creeping in on you. Just write shit down so you don’t forget it.

  • I was told to rest and reset my body. And that at any age it is wise to write down on paper and not try to remember everything for the day, the week, the month. It clears one’s mind for other things. So my psych teacher told us. I wrote it down so I would not forget.

  • That’s a sure sign of stress, Matt.  Let me know if you need to chat.

  • Tell your doctor.

  • Matt, I hope you have a real chance soon to have some much needed down time.
Not only reset your body but your mind as well.
I happen to be forgetful, and I write myself notes all the time.
    ( I still forget things…lol)
wishing you the best as always mate,
    *~matthew~*

  • It really doesn’t sound like the ordinary symptoms of stress. I think it’s best if you double-check and make sure to go to the doc.

  • Don’t worry, I’m losing my memory too.  It’s probably stress related…I need to do more meditation!

  • Take some time off and go relax by a beach and chill. Things like that happen a lot when you are stressed. Yeah writing down all the things to do, gets me going through the day. Love and hugs.

  • hmm… that doesn’t sound good!  i get absent-minded sometimes (especially when i have too many things going on), but it’s never been that bad!  i totally agree with leaving yourself notes on sticky pads…  that was a habit i started in college and i still do it!

  • Oh I agree with others about getting some seriously good sleep habits going again. Don’t want the memory to go altogether now!

  • @wutuwaitn4 - hahaha… nice try John.  But I might forget I’m gay.

@tomatoboi - I thought I saw someone that looked like you in a restaurant in Mississauga.  I doubt you venture out that way (except to visit the airport?).  I have a funny feeling I’ll run into you one of these days.

@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - I’ve got a pile of yellow sticky right beside me.

@Fatcat723 - I think I’ll keep a permanent to do list on my laptop in addition to the pile of yellow sticky notes I’ve got.

@christao408 - it’s likely stress and lack of sleep.

  • @Bricker59 - I think I have an appt with my doctor in a couple of months.  I’ll monitor for now and let her know.

@bleuzeus - thanks Matthew… I may end up with a wall of yellow sticky notes by my desk if I keep this up.

@kev1nccho1 - I’m seeing my doctor in a couple of months … I’ll monitor and let her know especially if it gets worse.

@brooklyn2028 - ah yes, meditation – that does not come easy to me.  It’s hard to calm my mind down.

  • @ZSA_MD - what I would give right now to spend a week at a beach somewhere.   That sounds really good right now.

@kunhuo42 - I’m gonna be putting yellow sticky pads on my shirt, pants, forehead, etc…if this problem gets worse.

@stepaside_loser - sleep continues to be elusive… sigh.

  • @ElusiveWords - then i would have to remind you

  • Stress, worry, lack of sleep (average need is 8 hours a night), travel across time zones can all cause memory lapses — Be good to yourself, reset your body clock as you are doing, get regular sleep, and so forth — and find a way to enjoy yourself too — all should help.  Take care, and know that your friends are all concerned for you.

  • Need more ginseng!

  • @ElusiveWords - Nope, I haven’t been to Mississauga lately. You’re right, I rarely head out that way. I don’t even go to YYZ much, it’s too far and not really accessible w/o a car. Even if you run into me, I wouldn’t know it was you! SHOW YOURSELF!!

  • For someone who’s bad at memory, I’m not even surprised. Why bother with writing a to do list down when you will forget where you put the list? LOL But for someone who had good memory before, that is an issue! Talk to your doctor! Who are we but a collection of memories? Rest well my friend!

  • hmmm…it’s all the stress isn’t it Matt? Time for a break and a big glass of wine :) You can do what I do, I write everything on my calendars on both my desk and phone. tc of yourself Matt.

  • That’s kinda sexy. Somebody attractive hunk a burnin’ love showing up in your room and just saying ‘Ready for some sex?’

You need a massage =( Things will be better.

  • don’t know about you, but i always eat my gingo when present in chinese dishes n soups and take my omega-3 fish oil supplement.  they say it’s also good for the brain.  we’ll see.  so far, i STILL remember my name.  though i often forget to bring my own water bottle when go to the gym.  not once, not twice, but numerous times.  forgot about it again just last week.  sigh… need to double the doses of my supplements.

  • @slmret - it hasn’t been easy trying to balance everything.  I had a bit of time off after Xmas but worked a lot of long hours right after I got back.  I took yesterday off and it was good to get some rest.

@Roadlesstaken - I’ll bring some ginseng tea with me to work.

@tomatoboi - I just might introduce myself to you if I run into you.  So don’t faint from the shock.

@ZenPaper - I’m not sure if I had good memory before but it seems to be getting worse.  I have to get more balance and exercise in my life.

@icebladz - It’s good to hear from you again!  I’ll write a reminder to myself to enjoy a glass of wine.

@Devilzgaysianboi - hahaha… I hope you’re doing well Kevin.  My bf gets massages from a registered masseuse and swears by them.  But I’m too self conscious about my body.

  • @rudyhou - I really want to pay more visits to my gym this year and watching my health this year.  I take omega 3 supplements too.

  • @ElusiveWords - It’s terribly difficult to balance everything, particularly when you are caring for an ill parent.  Do take care of yourself!

  • @slmret - I will – thank you.

  • you need a parrot.

  • @yang1815 - I’d probably forget to feed that thing.  And it would repeat all the swear words too.
