Mixed Up Family
One of my relatives came over for an extended visit and is staying with my brother. My brother drove him to meet up with us for a family for dinner on the weekend. I was surprised how good his English is compared to a couple of years ago. He speaks French and I think a smattering of German. Although he's 1/4 Chinese, he looks Caucasian with his light brown hair and neatly trimmed beard. My sister ordered sweet and sour chicken for him as it was his favorite. He ate everything that came his way (fried oysters, efu-noodles, tofu and scallop in black bean sauce, beef in oyster sauce and of course rice). He told us that he has rice twice a week at home along with Chinese style food.
I thought about my other relatives on my dad's side and they are mixed (Caucasian, Filipino, Hawaiian, African American, Italian and of course Chinese). We haven't had a family reunion for many years now. We're pretty well scattered across the globe. But maybe it's time to get together again as so many of the older generation (my dad's generation) have passed way recently.
My mom's family is from China and there hasn't been any mixed marriages (at least none that I'm aware of). But many years ago, my mom told me about a relative she met when they were in China. This woman looked Caucasian. The village they had lived in was by a sea port so it was rumored that the child was from a visiting sailor. Maybe this explains why my Cantonese is so poor & why I love pasta. I have some Caucasian DNA in me. (just kidding...
). Something strange just happened as I was typing this. I heard creaking noises behind me. I know the hardwood floors will sometimes creak but it's creepy when I'm by myself. I actually walked around the condo and heard it from my bedroom. I think I'm going to be sleeping with the lights on tonight. Now where did I put my teddy bear?

Oh I see, that's what you are writing about "mixed up" family, I thought you mean your family is messed up or something. LOL.
I think you need a spouse (J) to keep you warm in bed!
Wow, your family tree spreads the entire globe in terms of ethnicity! My one is completely Chinese. My siblings' partners have diversified our tree, somewhat: they are mixed Chinese and Vietnamese. Hah.
I have this theory that if a demon or ghost is creaking the floors and hasn't killed me yet, then it's a friendly ghost that gets a kick out of making me nervous, but it won't go further than that.
Wow those are some pretty interesting mixes. I'm sometimes jealous seeing so much diversity in other peoples family since mine is just purebred Chinese all the time - especially the older generations.
Maybe it's J surprising you ;] Have fun you two
Your teddy is with my teddy. They use too much aircon.
Spooky...
Okay, so where is this relative from that he is only 1/4 Chinese but you are surprised at how well he speaks English now?
wow, relatives all over the globe! you should take advantage of that and go visit... free place to stay during your vacations =)
Quite a family tree and as Aaron said- free places to stay as you travel the world. Hope you and Teddy sleep well!
Heh, I know all about mixed families! My mom is Dutch, my dad Philippino, I have three brothers, two of them married, one to a Belgium woman, the other a Japanese woman, then I have two sisters, one of them married to an Austrian guy, my other sister dating a German guy, and myself engaged to an American man. I can't wait to all meet up for a big family dinner some years down the road, seeing all the different mixes at the table!
Quite a mixed up family.
Anyway, do some kind of Paranormal Activity stuff. Surveillance cameras...unless you sleep buck naked or sleep strip or worst forget that the tapes are rolling while you do the nasty...lol I am so off topic. haha
Noise? Glitch in the Matrix!
Paranormal Activity :O
Where is your cousin from Matt? It's good to have relatives scattered around the globe and then suddenly have such a great get together.
This is not the first time you hear a ghost in your house. Maybe its time to hire an exorcist.
Do you ever feel like having such a culturally/ethnically diverse family plays a part in how spread out everyone has become? My family is plain-as-dirt white, and I always longed for something less.... 'standard'. It always feels like we completely lack culture of any kind.
you have a very diverse family. now you have another reason to go visit different place and maybe have your very own tour guide
What an interesting sort of "mixed up" family!
@CurryPuffy - well, the extended family is probably a bit messed up too.
@stepaside_loser - it's kinda fascinating how much my dad's family has spread. He had 9 other siblings and they all went different ways. I hope it's not a ghost.
@Devilzgaysianboi - maybe there are some surprises... my cousin found out a few years ago there was some Japanese blood in his family line. He was very surprised. I'm sure it's not J surprising me. He likes to be welcomed in rather than sneaking in.
@beowulf222 - our Teddies are now intimate? hahahaha... I hope they left some cool air for you.
@christao408 - @ZSA_MD - he is from Switzerland. I think he speaks French most of the time with his family and friends.
@kunhuo42 - with the exception of one cousin in the west coast, I'm not that close to the extended family.
@Fatcat723 - I need to find my Teddy. I know it's somewhere at my dad's house but I have no idea where.
@o0_Gina_0o - wow... your family is very diverse. I can imagine the many different types of food at your family reunion!
@oxyGENE_08 - hahaha... uhm, yes, you're way, way off topic.
@Roadlesstaken - likely some errors in the code. It's a bit unnerving to hear the noises when I'm alone. Now if I towel went missing, I would absolutely freak out.
@kev1nccho1 - I hope not. But I would absolutely blog about it if that was the case. hahaha...
@catstemplar2 - you're right, it's not the first time (gee - you have a good memory). Maybe it's just my over active imagination.
@secade - my dad's side is big (he had 9 siblings) and they travel far and wide. I think where they landed is really the cause of the diversity. My mom's side is pretty well Chinese including all my cousins. Well - there's some Malaysian blood there but it's ethnically Chinese as far as I know.
@icebladz - we're not that close of a family otherwise I would take advantage of this.
@Dezinerdreams - mixed up and messed up... hahaha.
@ElusiveWords - And it's still missing...
@ElusiveWords - I am not sure if they are intimate, but one day this Chinese looking bear (chain smoking, spitting, and squatting) showed up and said he was Mattie's. Since then he has been living here. Here is proof.
@beowulf222 - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA..... you're so gullible.
@ElusiveWords - Whaaaat!!! You mean, that Chinese bear is not your teddy? Oh my, I'll evict him tonight first thing when I get home. But then ... I kinda got used him and my teddy seems to like him. LOL
Family reunions are great to have. There are some families out there whose members can be so estranged from one another. You are blessed that you are not one of these. Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight..
perhaps you are part white!
Just curious as to if the sea port is Shanghai? There was an influx if Jewish people that migrated there during the World War II or so. That can only be possible if you're ethnically Mandarin.
@MzKeekz - my mom is Cantonese and the village her grandmother lived was close to the sea but I am sure it's not Shanghai.
@ElusiveWords - Ahh I see.
