Sleepless in Toronto
I need to be awake in about 4 hours. Insomnia is a slow form of torture. I’m sure I’ll eventually go crazy from the lack of sleep. Maybe it’ll take months or hopefully years. By then the zombie apocalypse will happen. I’ll be with a gang of survivors and someone will say: “Matt will take the night watch – he never sleeps!” I’ll guard the camp with my sword and a gun. I can picture myself with a mean looking scowl – meaner than Clint Eastwood’s. My body will be lean and buff. My pristine white tshirt will be barely able to contain my biceps, triceps, deltoids and all those other muscles which I’ve forgotten from Biology class.
In other news, everyone in my family is sick from some bug. If they aren’t coughing, they are sneezing. I have the sniffles and so far it’s starting to fade away. I don’t like hanging around sick people but duty calls.
What’s interesting is that I suddenly remembered that dad also suffers from insomnia. I remember he would stay up reading till the wee hours of the night. Maybe I inherited this gene or trait. My siblings don’t have this problem. I told my brother a couple of years ago that I sometimes take pills at night to sleep. He laughed and jokingly said that’s what booze is for. I crave sleep more than I crave food or sex. A good night’s sleep is like drinking a cold glass of water in a desert. Maybe in a few days, I’ll write a more coherent and intelligent entry.

Poor you. A colleague told me recently that he suffers from insomnia and sometimes cannot sleep at all. I told him to go see a doctor. So, I am telling you the same. My other advice would be (and this fits your current cold) to get some cough syrup with codeine. Be careful though … codeine is addictive.
You and I both! Absolutely cannot fall asleep and I’ve been in bed since 11:30pm -_-
Hope you can get some sleep Matt.
every time when I need to wake up early in the morning…I just suffer the same……maybe my mind is too worried…..anyway hope you eventually got a couple of hours of rest….
I cannot identify with being sleepless – but I do know what you mean. Watch the flu that is making its appearance. Time to get the herbs out!
Lol@the first paragraph
I actually haven’t been sleeping that well while in the road, but I know why,I keep chatting and texting on my phone and its keeping my mind too active.
Have you tried exercising hard a few hours before sleeping?
LOL Zombie Apocalypse! At least your imagination thrives during your insomniac moments.
A quick polish on the knob might keep your doors closed
Sucks when duty calls and have to take care of sick family members!
You know, it’s actually natural for human beings to wake up in the middle of the night and stay up a little before they go back to sleep.
The modern day convention forces us to sleep through the night so we’ll be spending uninterrupted hours working.I actually think you are more human than most people who goes through the night without waking once.
Take vitamin D3. It’s kept me from getting sick for 2 years.
My sisters have insomnia. Fortunately for me, I don’t have that problem except occasionally when I’m stressed.
Do you live in Toronto or are you visiting? I spent a week there a couple of months ago. People were very pleasant, but the humidity was amazing, and nobody kept their a/c as cool as I would have wanted.
Sleep is so good. The last time I boozed up before bed, though, I ended up waking up four hours later and couldn’t go back to sleep for another five! It upset my Saturday schedule. I wish you sweet dreams…whenever they find you.
in the summer, for some reason i was so stressed i couldn’t sleep then i’d just see morning sunlight in the window.
i never take sleeping pills though no matter how much i need to sleep. it scares me
I KNOW ALL ABOUT INSOMNIA. I graduated summa cum laude from the institution of sleepless agony! My husband can sleep in a matter of two blinks, and can sleep standing without blinking an eye. He makes me sick.
Hope you can get some good sleep tonight and every night Mattie.
I think insomnia runs in families. Apparently all the men in my father’s family suffer from it to varying degrees, though the women don’t have it much. I know it’s a huge problem for myself and my little brother who can’t ever seem to sleep. I didn’t sleep a wink two nights, just couldn’t catch a breath of rest.
I would not post you on watch. You may be buff and good at staying awake but eventually the exhaustion overcomes you and you’d probably murder our entire survivor group thinking that we’re zombies.
Boy can I relate to this! There’s nothing worse than feeling exhausted, but not being able to sleep! Ughh.
Funny, this reminded me of reading this a few months ago:

@beowulf222 - I might have to go to Cough Syrup Anonymous.
@xx_smilez - I hope sleep eventually came for you.
@christao408 - I noticed your timestamp of 3:57AM! Now is that EST or Bangkok time?
@agmhkg - hi Angel, I managed to get about 3 hours of sleep. I always get nervous if I have an early appointment and that makes things even worse.
@Wangium - Why is it normal to wake up during the night? I am curious.
@ElusiveWords - Jet lag…
@beowulf222 - The myth of 8-hour sleep: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-16964783
@christao408 - Interesting. I never knew about this. In a slightly related manner, hot countries tend to have a long siesta period after lunch and then are active later in the evening till midnight.
@ElusiveWords - 30 mins of sleep came to unfortunately. It was a horrible monday at work!! Worse than usual Haha
Just do what I do … Be sleep deprived at all times, then you’ll never have a problem. I usually fall asleep within ten min.
@Fatcat723 - I had my flu shot last week while taking dad to one of his appointments. But I have a scratchy throat and a bit of a runny nose now. I think I may have caught a cold or some virus.
@XtremePsionic - I usually work at night to catch up and I know that’s contributing to my insomnia.
@oxyGENE_08 - my brain sometimes goes into overdrive in the wee hours of the night.
@KevEats - lol…. I was wondering who would suggest this.
@angys_coco - yeah but it’s a loving duty.
@Wangium - hey Jason – good to hear from you. Thanks for the tip on D3. I’ll check into it.
@Roadkill_Spatula - I live in Toronto.
@TutelageOfTheMundane - I try to stay away from booze. It does make me drowsy and sleepy but the quality of sleep isn’t the greatest.
@f5ye_angel5 - I sometimes take a prescription pill to help me sleep. But I don’t do it on weekdays.
@ZSA_MD - how can M sleep so quickly? *envious glare* I think we both share this misery.
@secade - lol… I promise I won’t bash your head in.
@CuddlyKat - the more stress out I am about not sleeping, the worse it gets. Thanks for dropping by and for the rec.
@JonasApproved - you’re one of the few people I know that seem to thrive on a few hours of sleep a night.
@ElusiveWords - Time for the green tea and some herbs.
@beowulf222 - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2211431/Insomnia-Stop-losing-sleep-insomnia–natural-wake-night.html
haha… matt, i think you and vince (@vsan79) are like long lost insomnia buddies. i bet you both can get a lot of things done in the wee hours of night if i were to have you both get together. seriously.
‘pretty dang coherent and intelligent entry for someone suffering from so much lack of sleep IMHO!
@rudyhou - I had no idea Vince had the same problem.
@ThankfulEveryDay - my mind can be very active when I really want to sleep.
