Snippets:  Noun; what Matt writes when he can't write

    1.  I have a colleague that looks a lot like Chris (Christao408).  But my coworker is probably a bit stockier and his voice is not as deep as Chris.  My coworker’s work can be a bit messy sometimes.  But because he looks like Chris, I always find myself giving him the benefit of doubt.   It’s odd - I always have to remind myself to treat him just like everyone else.  But if my colleague starts talking about food and airplanes, I’m going to freak out.

    2. I was working late the other night at my desk.  My desk is located in the corner of my condo and faces the wall.  That night, I felt there was something watching me.  Aside from my desk lamp and the kitchen light, the rest of the condo was dark.  My mind said there wasn’t anyone but I my back started to tingle.  I turned around and of course there wasn’t anyone.   I walked to the door and it was still locked.  Needless to say I slept with my lights on that night.  What's also strange is that if I sleep with my light on, it'll be off in the morning.  I started to freak out until I caught myself turning off the light in the middle of the night.

    3.  Being anonymous here can be difficult.  Sometimes I feel like telling the world who I am.  But if I did that, then I'll have to delete a lot of embarrassing entries.  But seriously, I never thought I would connect with people at all here.  It was just a place for an online journal when I started.  As bizarre as this seems to you all, this is sometimes agonizing for me.  I know it's easier to make virtual friends and maybe that's what I'm looking for.

    4.  My TV is getting old.  The picture is still clear and the colours are ok.  But the picture is getting bigger.  It's as if I'm watching through a zoom lens.  So eventually I'll have to upgrade.  But what to get - LCD, LED or Plasma?  It's so confusing.

    5.  You know what's strange?  I actually miss Xanga chat even though I only used it a handful of times and rarely turn it on.  But the chats I did have were good ones.

  • I tend to wave inbetween anonymity and revealing.

Even though if you really pay attention to what I write one can totally figure out where I go to school but I have issues with just announcing my university's name in the case my sarcasm or humor isn't translated well and my university and team's reputation is tainted.
    sorry for the rant.

  • I alwaysplace my desk with my back to the wall and i faces the door, i hate surprises, and worry i scare nyself silly with imagination without reasons at all.

  • Haha @ preferential treatment for Chris-like colleague!

I can never sleep with my light on. BTW if you have an iPhone, there's this fun sleep app called Sleep Cycle that I recommend for you. And regarding spooky things, I always reason that if something horrible really was there then it will kill me and I'm completely powerless to do anything about it, so why try to fight it? I don't see the point of there being something scary that never actually does anything to me.
If you reveal who you are you cannot un-reveal that. I suppose if you wanted a face-to-face interaction then you can private message your photo and that way you can still keep your anonymity with everyone else.
I have no idea about TVs.
Is Xanga chat gone? I didn't realise. I think I've only chatted to you and, I think, Aaron, once.

  • Oh, so Xanga chat is actually gone? I thought it was either something wrong with the browsers I used or the fact I was in Thailand or something strange like that. Okay, that answers several questions.

As for the anonymity thing, for a few months now I've had the sense that you increasingly want to break through that veil and start connecting with others IRL. Thus your impulsive introduction to Sheldon when you saw him.

  • @stepaside_loser - Perhaps Matt should just come to Bangkok next time you are here. You guys can have an anonymous Xanga meet. =P

  • I just bought this one for my bedroom. It's cheap and I love it.

  • love the snippets - My desk at work faces the entrance. Better to see who the unsatisfied customer is and get ready. My TV is old and still works so it will stay more as a noise in the background.

  • its really hard to stay anonymous in xanga because of the fact that we are sharing our life experiences to other people..

  • LED's are pretty cheap these days.

and i hate that feeling where someone is watching you. ugh! that's the worst!

  • Be sure to get HD and DVR when you upgrade your tv. And face the door with your desk!

  • xangan chat?  i didn't even know it existed.  darn it.  now i want to try it.

  • @christao408 - Haha, that would be such an interesting meet. Now you've got me thinking of ideal meet up scenarios... For some reason, the ideal Matt meetup should involve going into some hidden cafe/dark bar with comfortable armchairs and having a very long conversation. An ideal meet up with you involves you cooking everything and then explaining each dish. And you get the gist of it... haha.

  • You never chatted with me...hmmmp. lol Get a LED! :)

  • Vizio LCD tvs have always been good for me, check those out.  Ah, thanks for pointing out the chat being gone too, didn't noticed right away.  And yes...expose yourself!  Maybe start off slowly, but writing protected posts.

  • Def LED! Hi, Welcome and thanks for visiting my site! God bless, ~ Pete

  • @JoeytheGenie - I know some folks have privatized a lot of their entries once they enter the workforce or go into graduate school.  Bloggers who were once very open don't want their past to be dredged up.  I think it's best for you to be careful.  I'm always careful if I write anything work related.  I don't want my rants to be misinterpreted.

@stevew918 - that means I can never sneak up on you.  I have some colleagues who put "rear view mirrors" on their workstations so they can see who is coming up behind them.

@stepaside_loser - it's a bit on the bright side so I face away from it when I sleep.  It's a good thing I usually sleep on my side / tummy and then roll over sometime in the middle of the night to my back.  I do remember our chat - it was enjoyable.  lol at your suggestion to Chris for meet up.  It won't be in a hidden dark bar; I think you would be paranoid.  I can see it being in a pub or coffee shop.

@christao408 - yeah, that thing is gone.  I kinda miss it now even though I only used it a handful of times.  I think I'll be grappling with this anonymous / public for some time.

@CareyGLY - I just need it for the living room.  I don't have cable in my bedroom.

@Fatcat723 - I'll probably wait till it stops working completely before buying a new one.

@xxMissforbiddenfruitxx - I've never shown my face or family name here (or where I work, what I do etc...).  But you're right about us sharing our life experiences; it's an easy way to connect at a deeper level I think.

@l0311879l - the LEDs I've seen at the stores look pretty good but so do plasmas.  (I know... first world problem *smacks head*)

@ed408 - I may have to reconfigure my desk.  But yes, I do plan on getting HD 1080p and a DVR too.

@rudyhou - lol... I think I tried to msg you once but you probably didn't notice.

@oxyGENE_08 - uhm... well, it's gone now ...  I'll have to do some side by side TV comparison.

@Roadlesstaken - I might take the slow approach on protected posts.  I've always respected how you were so open with a lot of your entries.  Thanks for the tip on the Vizio, you're the 2nd person to recommend that brand.

@Evangelist_Guy - I think I'll need to do more side by side comparison on LED / LCD / Plasma.  Thank you for subscribing.

  • @ElusiveWords - i can understand your point and i also tried doing the same thing before but i don't know im having a hard time to stay anonymous in xanga..

  • @ElusiveWords - One time i had to face the wall on my desk because i was borrowing an office. I brought my mirror so you cannot sneak up on me, hehe.

  • Yeah Matt, you have been incognito for too many years. I am really old, and I would like to see you before you feel bad that you didn't give me that chance.

We need a whole new system for the TV and DVD. Our DVD player doesn't work. M is dragging his feet, and some days I just feel like going out and getting them by myself.
How come you never chatted with me when the dang Meebo was on?

  • @ZSA_MD - Get a DVD BluRay player with a good TV.  I used Meebo just a handful of times and when I did, it was usually late at night.  I don't think a lot of people used it.  I'm so used to being anonymous here - it's a strange mixture of both comfort and discomfort.
