  • Another walk around my neighborhood

This is otherwise known as a lazy entry… all pictures with very few words.
This is the side of a yoga studio called Downward Dog

I saw this on another building and thought it was pretty interesting.
It’s a picture of a TTC subway train.  It’s off to a side street
and faces a small parking lot of a bar.  So I’m not sure how many
    people notice this.

There’s quite a few condos in my neighborhood.  This one is very
convenient if you like pubs.  There’s an Irish Pub called The Foggy Dew located
on the ground floor.  You can just stagger back to your own unit after having
a few too many.    I don’t think I want to live in the units right above the pub though.
It gets pretty noisy in the summer.  The outdoor patio wraps around the side of the building.

I’ve always wondered about the history of these old buildings.  It’s all part of the small
neighborhood called Niagara.  There’s a street called Niagara which I believe draws its
inspiration from Fort Niagara.  If you look closely at the wall, you can see that it’s crooked,
likely due to settling.  This used to be an industrial neighborhood.  I have a hunch these
houses were built to accommodate the workers.

The front of the same building.  It’s actually nice looking – just needs a fair bit of renovation.

By contrast – here are some of the newer townhomes in the same area.

Ok – that’s it for this lazy entry… *yawn*.

I really get annoyed with Xanga’s text editor.  I can never get my words and pictures lined up
properly.  It looks fine on my “main entry” page.

  • Another walk in my ‘hood.

After showering from my workout, I decided to hang out at a local park to enjoy the sun and fresh air.  I brought along my camera and a book to read.  The park was packed with many people enjoying the last of a long weekend.  There were many people playing football, tossing frisbees, playing softballs, walking their dogs, cycling, eating, sleeping and just lounging around.  I only read a few pages and decided to walk around.

I saw these big white chairs.  People would look at them carefully before sitting down.  They must be relatively new.

This was a first sighting for me at the park.  It’s nice to see a park getting so much use by the community.

I walked along Dundas, just west of Bathurst. It has a large Portuguese community here
but it’s changing.  It’s always interesting watching neighborhoods growing and changing.

Now I know most of you don’t remember the Grateful Dead.  This is a barbershop.

There are a lot of old style coffee shops here but here’s another one “The Communal Mule”

I noticed this house with a small front yards that was exploding with flowers.

Here’s another coffee shop, notice the coffee pot above the door?  This one is called Ezra’s Pound.

I also noticed another store selling these.

These are just waiting to be renovated.  Just across the street were some relatively new developments.

A Buddhist temple and an Ukranian Church just steps away from each other.

The Oak Leaf Steam Baths.  (uhm… nope, I haven’t been inside.)

Some bar stools were being held captive at this store.

I love this sign – it’s just so simple.

That’s probably the first time I’ve had 3 entries in one day.    I missed it by 27 minutes.

  • Neighborhood walk

A lazy entry from a stroll in the neighborhood recently.

This used to be a rooming house and also a Legion Hall.  Now it’s going to be turned into a condo.

More development down the street – this one has been in the works for sometime though.

This coffee shop caught my eye.  If you look carefully, you can see the roaster inside.

I love old buildings such as these.  I could live & work in the second floor with those big windows.

The Gladstone Hotel – lovingly restored.

The Drake Hotel – I was trying to practice some night time photography.  It’s hand held, f4.0, 1/40s at 1600 ISO.  I don’t like walking around at night with my camera though.

    Urban “art”

“Sweaty Betty’s”  a bar for the ordinary folks like me.  I need to check this out.

I think I dodged the cops again.
