    1)  London Calling!
    At dinner in a restaurant one evening, the Clash’s London Calling  started to play in the background.  I started to nod my head and absentmindedly sing along.  Then it quickly dawned on me.  What was one of the biggest punk rock anthems back then is now simply dinner music.  London Calling was the title track from the double album of the same name.  The album had a wonderful mixture of punk, ska, rock and even rockabilly with biting social commentary.  It was probably one of the Clash’s best work ever.  Dinner music … hmmph!

    2) I got paid
    a)  It was a good day for laundry.  The washer and dryer did not steal any of my socks.  My undies came through without any new holes.  These mean machines always threaten my underwear.  “I’m gonna rip you a new a**hole.” is one their favorite lines and they mean it.  But today, those 2 brutes were generous and even gave me some loose change back.  It wasn’t much but I was grateful.

    b)  At the end of a somewhat frisky session at my bf’s bed, I looked around for my watch, wallet, cellphone and stuff.  While I was putting them back in my pockets, my bf handed me the loose change that was scattered on his bed.
    I looked at the money in mock horror.   “That’s it?  Just 65 cents for that session?”
    “Well- this wasn’t as good or as long as the last time.  The bar has been raised.”  He gave me a cheesy smile.
    I love it when we tease each other like this.  I always get a chuckle when we have these little exchanges.

    3)  Inspired by Mom
    It’s tough cooking for my dad.  He can get bored of food rather quickly.  Sometimes I don’t have a clue what to make for him on Sundays.  While we eat out almost every Sunday night, I spend most of the afternoon making soup and usually a dish so he has some home cooked food during the week.  Inevitably I’ll get an idea out of the blue.  It’s usually simple dishes like white daikon radish (lo bak) with some dried shrimps or roast pork steamed with ginger and a bit of shrimp paste.  These are dishes that my mom would have made to spur his appetite.  It’s always comforting to me to still have this connection to my mom.

    I hope everyone had a good start to the week.

  • The only band that really matters. Joe Strummer would roll in his grave if he knew he was reduced to dinner music. Did you see The Future is Unwritten by Julien Temple?

    Glad you got your underwear back in one piece.

  • i wanna try your mom’s dishes =p

  • would “train in vain” be considered dinner music?

  • I also wanna to try your mom’s recipe soup! Thanks for sharing with us about your ‘frisky session’! LOL

  • 65 cents? lol…that’s cute!

  • Frisky!!??  LOL

  • raise the bar!! raise the bar =P

  • Though I am picky about flavors of the food, I don’t get tired of food easily.
    It’ll be 4 or 5 days straight eating the same things before I get tired of it…
    Call me loyal

    P.S. that must have been some hot session when everything you have is scattered onto the bed like that!

  • My week started rather sad. Heartbreaking, in fact. If you happen to pass by Vynor’s site and read her entry “Sunday whispered” you will see the reason why. Anyway, in life, we can always expect the unexpected.

  • hahaha  i love the little glimpses into your life.  yay for laundry machines being kind to your laundry!  and only 65 cents…  i would have gone on strike ;)

  • @macphoto - I haven’t seen the movie… I’ll have the check one of the DVD rental places around here to see if they have it.

    @lcfu - my meals are just simple stuff – not like some of the banquet meals you have eaten.

    @ABSOLUTmichael - maybe after dinner music?  lol…

    @curry69curry - the soups are relatively simple to make (the only ones I know).  I just simmer the meat / bones for about 3 or so hours, with ginger, dried scallops and other aromatics.  I strain out all the bones / meats and aromatics first before adding the veggies and other meats.  This also removes some of the fats.

    @onmovement - it’s tough to make a living this way.

    @CareyGLY - I couldn’t come up with a word to describe “it”.

    @zozoyork - you naughty boy…

    @Wangium - I’m ok eating the same thing for a couple of days.  Sometimes though I just dont’ feel like cooking or if I made a large dish (e.g. beef stew).
    Uhm… things just fall out of my pockets easily.

    @Norcani - wow… *hugs* to you and your wife.

    @kunhuo42 - go on strike?  hahaha… I can just see the picket sign.

  • I eat things in a row because I am practicing a dish.
    I need 3~4 times to get the flavors just right…

  • I am glad the laundry machines didn’t enjoy your underwear as much as they are used to. I don’t know much about western music and the various genre so can’t say much. About your frisky love session… well I won’t go there. But the cooking bit, I am so glad you like to keep up with what mom did. Do you have any recipe book that she used to particular care about? if not perhaps you can buy one and improvise with some of her cool ideas and please dad.
    Be happy love. Have a great week

  • Funny, I just downloaded several Clash songs a few days ago while browsing iTunes to fill in gaps in my library of songs from my school years.

    So does your underwear have a lot of holes already?  Tawn shames me into throwing them out once they get to that point, though I think they are still perfectly wearable.

    I’m sure your picky diner appreciates all the effort you put into cooking for him.

  • @Wangium - ahh… one thing I should do more is make notes rather than rely on my memory.  Each time I make a dish, it’s always slightly different.  I never measure things too so it’s hard to make a dish consistent.

    @ZSA_MD - she never used a recipe book for her Chinese recipes.  She used them mostly for baking.  There was an old book (Better Homes and Gardens?) and even though it was old, the recipes were still pretty good.

    @christao408 - there’s a couple that I’ve thrown out already.  My bf just cracks up when he sees me wearing them.

  • @ElusiveWords - Hmm… the holes aren’t enough to excite him, huh?  You know, the “ripped and worn” look is supposed to be very in these days.

  • I got a chuckle out of your post and found it funny that from 2 (b) and 3 you talked both about being frisky and then about your mum and dad. Too cute.
    *~matthew~*

  • 1)  i have no idea what the song “london calling” is like.
    2b)  that’s so funny! :)

  • @bleuzeus - glad you liked it.  Sometimes I just have these collections of mini entries.  So I just group them together although they don’t necessarily flow.

    @rudyhou - let’s hope I earn more than 65 cents next time.
