still here... lurking
It's Friday night. One of the few times I've been on Xanga for over 10 minutes. I've got laundry going on in the background as well. My work laptop is waiting for me. I'm dealing with some organizational changes at work. While my manager and job hasn't changed. There are different "dotted line" responsibilities and reporting. It's sort of like being in an open relationship but you don't get to pick your partners.
I write a lot at work. When I come home, the last thing I want to do is write. But I need to find some quiet time for this. I'm also looking around for a writing course (suggestions welcomed). It's probably long overdue and something I should seriously explore. I was writing a report the other day at work and struggled with the tone. I wanted to strike the right balance between concise and complete. No one else understood what I meant.
Writing will take time and discipline - two things in very short supply right now. I'm also getting measured on my time this year. It's sort of like being a lawyer or a consultant. I have to document my billable hours. There's a target that we have to attain.
So it's back to work for another hour before I call it a night. I'm lucky - someone forgot to send me the meeting notice for a call tomorrow.
Oh yeah, I went for a walk the other night. It was cold and there was a good breeze. It was just strong enough to make me walk fast. I noticed a young woman panhandling. She was sitting on the sidewalk in front of a pizza place. She was holding a sign "Smile If you Masturbate". I didn't smile.
I hope to catch up on your entries soon.

Maybe you need to smile more.
I was not expecting that ending.
you need to smile to her more
.
I was not expecting such a comment on that sign! Hope you get your work done this weekend!
you're a serious writer
Matt, I am doing a 7 day work week an not sure when I get to catch up on Xanga. I usually try to leave some time in the early morning before I am off for the day. Need to smile more or spend more time with your boyfriend!?!?!?
Haha. Yes, perhaps you need to smile (at her) more?
To the extent that Xanga writing is something you enjoy, perhaps you may want to put it on your schedule. I've found that now matter how overwhelmed one may feel at work, if one pushes personal activities aside, one ends up giving too much away and even become somewhat depressed. Do smile!
I have never seen a sign like that! lol
That ending..with the lady and the smiling....that was just.. O.0
I smile everyday.
hahaha that's a hilarious sign! it's definitely a creative way to get some change. i've been doing a lot of writing lately too... i feel like i am getting a bit burnt out from doing so much writing, and i know my writing has gone downhill a bit. sigh... i wish i could just go back to doing experiments and let someone else do all the writing. good luck with all your work, and be sure to smile more often!
So Matt...since you made that allegory...does that mean you have been in an open relationship before?
Not sure what type of writing you're looking to learn, but you're one the better writers here.
Matt, I have missed you and have worried about your work and about your dad. I hope every thing will go very well for you at your work.
that's a very...interesting sign...
Your ending made me laugh but seriously I'm a bit worried about you. Hope the cheerful Matt will make a resurgence. I know how difficult it is to be happy when work and life is stressing you out.
For the course, I'd check out Ryerson Continuing Education. Seems like they have a lot of good courses there.
*hugs*
Ahhahahahaa... The sign! The sign!
Funny.
With a title like that, I was expecting something... different?
Maybe you should try masturbating?
I feel the same way when it comes to writing. Sometimes it just takes a spur of the moment type of inspiration to force myself to write.
And sometimes forcing a smile works wonders on the mood =)
Ohhh.... good luck with work! Sounds like a lot of work!
@christao408 - Chris, it's hard to keep smiling all the time.
@Roadlesstaken - I was not expecting that sign. I guess I just wanted to throw a curveball in there,
@stevew918 - But Steve - it can be tiring. hahaha
@CurryPuffy - hi Gary, I did get it done... (whew) but I miss my sleep.
@orchidgrass - thank you, you just made me smile.
@Fatcat723 - wow... 7 days a week, that's can be tiring Rob. I shouldn't be complaining about my workload. I do try to spend at least one day a week with my bf.
@Dezinerdreams - I saw her again the other day but she had a different sign. I still didn't smile.
@TheLatinObserver - hey Roberto .... yeah, I also want to make sure I get some workout time in there too. I'm trying to be a lot more efficient and ruthless with my schedule.
@TheCheshireGrins - it was a first for me too!
@yorutenshi - welcome to my world... hahahaha.
@kunhuo42 - thanks Aaron, I'll try to smile some more. hee hee...
@Wangium - well Jason... uhmm.... nope. I'm one of these old fashioned, monogamous kinda guy. Funny - everyone is giving me the aww you poor thing or a comment about the sign but this was the one you picked up on. hee hee....
@CareyGLY - me? Thanks for the compliment Carey.
@ZSA_MD - I worry about my dad too Zakiah. His appetite has not been well these past couple of days.
@onmovement - I guess you smiled. hahahaha....
@brooklyn2028 - thanks for the hug and the tip. I am checking out both U of T and Ryerson. I don't have any preference at this time since they are both in easily accessible locations.
@McScarry - thanks for dropping by. Yeah, the title was really for my legion (ok... a small, modest legion) of subscribers.
@secade - lol....
@Rm2046 - I've just painted a smile on my face.
@mmmagination - thanks Benson... I hope things work out.
I was going to wait till you respond and say:
Aw...Matt, you have worked so hard.
*hugs*
XD
@Wangium -
I really enjoyed reading your last entry. I just wanted to let you know that.
Thanks!
It took me a while to digest what had happened.
@ElusiveWords - :D
@ElusiveWords - Yeah, especially as you get older it seems to be harder and harder... well, more difficult... to smile as frequently.
LOL
@yang1815 - hahahaha.... I couldn't think of a witty comeback to that line.
@ElusiveWords - O yeah, it was a good one then
@ElusiveWords - I would've responded with this just FYI haha...

There are some pretty funny panhandlers. xD
When I was in New York I saw one holding a sign saying "25 cents to tell me to get a job."
