The Staredown
I woke up late after not being able to sleep on time. As luck would have it, it was a bit after 8 AM when I finally opened my bleary eyes. I stumbled down from my bedroom to the shower. In 10 minutes I was done and out of there looking for clean clothes. I looked at the clock and knew I wouldn't make it to work by 9 AM. So I decided to work from home.
It was one of those days that really flew by. After work, I had to get out for some air and walked to a nearby coffee shop. I grabbed a decaf and started to read. My tummy started to growl. It won't stop so I got a brownie. The cashier looked a lot like Colin but was shorter and had blonde hair (dyed?). On the way back to my table, I saw a scruffy looking guy with a newspaper a couple of tables down. His hands and feet fidgeted relentlessly. His eyes kept darting around the coffee shop even he had a newspaper in front of him.
I continued to read but I could see this guy out of the corner of my eye shifting around his chair. The book was interesting and soon the words carried me away. When my coffee ran out, I looked up briefly and noticed the guy was now facing me. I wanted to finish the chapter and continued to read. It was another 10 minutes before I looked up and noticed he was staring at me. I had to get back home and started to pack slowly. He continued to stare at me. This time I glared back at him. He looked down away after a couple of seconds. As I was packing my knapsack, he got up and left.
At the counter, there was this cute Chinese guy trying to figure out what coffee to order. His attention was on the menu up on the wall. I noticed the Colin lookalike discreetly glanced up and down the Chinese guy. It was quick and kinda cute. I'm sure their hands touched briefly when he was getting his change back. Don't you guys do this?
As I walked back home, I noticed that scruffy guy across the street. He quickly looked away and stopped in front of a store to look at the window. I gave him another glare and hoped he saw that when he looked at the reflection in the store front. I don't have movie star looks so I don't know what the heck he wanted.
It was just a bit creepy.

This is more than a little creepy.
He's a spy! Take him down before he gets you!
He is very interested in asian guys, mmmm
LOL! You should have just asked him what the fuck he was looking at!
Ahh I don't mind people like that. I figure, if they want to look at me fine. If he wants to try and kill me, HAHA good luck.
I do the hand touch-ey thing
@desotoinquest - yeah, I normally don't get creeped out like that.
@Roadlesstaken - hahaha... he was kinda scary looking.
@stevew918 - lol... I wasn't interested at all in him.
@brooklyn2028 - well, my 'hood has quite a few characters (as you probably know).
@arenadi - well, you can take care of yourself - I'm not a fighter like you. I'm glad someone else does that hand thing as well. No one else said anything.
Lol. I would have kept staring back at him... but with a "don't mess with me" kinda stare.
that IS creepy...it's happened to me before too, but i'm usually too chicken to stare back at them...i'm afraid something will escalate...lol
Wait, which coffee shop? I've honest-to-god heard that I have a barista-doppleganger in Toronto before. I must travel there and kill him.
Buuuut at least he has good taste, as the asian fella was cute.
Strange things happening in your coffee shop. But I noticed that the same characters seem to be in my coffee shop too. I just never noticed because I usually have the paper with me to read or an in a rush to get to work. I feel "creepy" when someone is watching me.
You're that hot Matt!
@Dezinerdreams - my "don't mess with me" stare leaves people laughing and giggling. I think I end up looking like an angry clown.
@onmovement - if it escalates - hmm... I think I'll threaten to blog about them. I'll probably try and bluff my way out if anything happens.
@secade - it's been ages since I've seen the word "doppleganger "
The asian guy was tall, probably around 5' 10", had a nice beret type hat, peabody jacket, blue jeans, dark colored scarf... Your "double" was skinnier than you, 5' 7"ish... blond hair, gelled...
@Fatcat723 - I like people watching but I don't like to be stared at. I bet he has a blog and wrote down the rude staredown from his perspective.
@yang1815 - the only time that phrase has been used on me is when I have a fever.
@ElusiveWords - I'm sure that's not the only time! Perhaps you just don't remember the rest?
@yang1815 - I'd be down with either of those
I would have walked up to him and asked, "do you see last night's spinach stuck in my teeth?"
Or may be you reminded him of his son or brother or father??? now I am being silly.
That is pretty creepy!
But maybe you're hotter than you think!
Oh yeah, that's a little disconcerting...
you know, i think he was probably looking to score some nookie with you
That guy at the coffee shop was me!
I was a little hesitant about coming up to say hi to you
@ZSA_MD - well, he's Caucasian (sort of Eastern European looking) so I doubt if I reminded him of anyone. I'll have to keep that line handy next time.
@apocatim - I doubt it... but thank you.
@rudyhou - hahaha... next time I'm just gonna do the same thing that as your profile picture.
@Wangium - you're 6 ft, in your late 50's, Caucasian, with stringy oily hair? hahahaha
Well, I am 6' tall. Sometimes in the right light I have been told I look caucasian, and I wore a wig that time because I was on a stake out for Matt.
Sorry if I scared you.
lol yeah i probably can read your feeling... i hate people staring at me too... but i just cant prevent it... or should i blame myself being that attractive? or why i have good looking parents? lol ok i got it... i wont stare at you when we meet up... =p
