I see better now
I've been wearing reading glasses for a few years now. I had them on for months before anyone in my family saw me wearing it. Both my siblings have been wearing glasses. Of the 3 of us, I had the best eyesight. Until that day I went for my eye checkup. I told the eye doctor that I'm having a bit of trouble focusing when I read in bed. I jokingly said, my mom always told us not to read in bed "it's bad for your eyes!". He did the usual tests. I asked him if anything was wrong. He said "Oh nothing is wrong, you're just getting old." And with that he kicked me in the nuts. Well - it sort of felt that way.
At first, I could still read without the glasses. Then if I squint and made a funny face, I could still read it. Eventually if I held a book or newspaper at arms length I could make out the words. But this year, I can't do that anymore. I tried holding a magazine with my toes while reading in bed. But that doesn't work. The worse thing though is not being able to read while I take a dump. I only use my glasses when I read or when I'm on the computer. I can't walk around in them. On the bright side, the average time spent in the washroom has decreased significantly.
I just got a new pair of reading glasses. I tried one of those geeky, thicker frames. But J couldn't stop laughing. I thought I looked ok with it. So I got something else instead. I'll still use my old reading glasses when I work on the laptop. The new reading glasses are just for reading. I guess I'll have to get progressive lenses eventually. Or maybe I'll get one just for those up close intimate activities. Oh wait - you don't wear glasses for that do you? But what if I can't figure out what I'm kissing?

Some folks are curious about the face behind the eyeglass. Just picture those glasses in front of a basketball and you'll have a pretty good idea.
(ed note: an entry about reading glasses? *rolls eyes*)

Are you saying you have a big head? I bet mine's bigger! I get made fun of it a lot by friends haha.
My father used to call it the "trombone age!"
Ha. This made me laugh. Not AT you. WITH you! I had to get reading glasses this past year. I use them for reading and on the computer. They are the lowest strength ones so far. Ack. I'm gettin' old!
I love how your sense of humor shines through in this post!
HUGS!
I have the better eyesight than all my siblings.
@Roadlesstaken - it's your mouth, Alex. =P
Hey Matt, Been there and done that. About two years ago, my arms weren't long enough any more. I hate using these things. Never much on jewelery, but always wore a nice watch. Gave up when I had to whip out the reading glasses to see it. Yuck!!! Just used my phone for time. Always 20/20 or better with just some color vision issues before. Felt kind of naked without the watch. Friend gave me a classy, understated bracelet that solves that without the frustration of not being able to read the watch without the glasses. You are not alone Matt. You will survive this, my friend.
I've always wondered how I'd look like with glasses on...
Oh, that gave me the impression that you have a Charlie Brown head, kinda rounded, right?
I stepped into geezerhood about five years ago with my first bifocals. They made life so, so much simpler.
I find people who wear glasses sexy (more often than not.)
Anyway, I like the new ones, they look nice.

Don't worry about the reading glasses. They make you look quite sophicating and interesting. Plus they have turned into a fashion statement.
Let's see - first was lasik and then came cataracts - when you reach that stage you are getting older. I have passed both and keep reading glasses scattered about the house and car lolol.
I try to imagine you hold the newspaper with your toes to read, hehe. You have a nice sense of humor.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for sharing such wonderful information with the world. I am hoping more such top-quality blog post from you in the future as well. You motivate me to write my own blog as well.

If you can't figure out what you're kissing with your lips, do you really want to know what "it" is?
Ooo, I like your new frames!
What's really pissed me off lately is that they are making the small fine print smaller and finer! It's not fair and I'm sick and tired of complaining about it! Jeesh!
I hope you and your family are well Matt.
Beth
but I'm not curious
Mate, geeky thick frames are in. I have a fake pair just for that look
.
Now I know that you are in your forties. I have been using those glasses for ever and ever it seems. I have a pair in each room and each bathroom, and one in th purse and one in the glove compartment. I just have to have them right at my finger tips.
@Roadlesstaken - yep, big head and a big ego to match. Your head looks fine. I wonder why your friends make fun of you?
@slmret - hahahaha... I just got the joke.
@adamswomanlost - thanks, I'm glad it made you laugh.
@stupid_systemus - hee hee.... (at your remark to Alex)
@Toro69 - I feel your pain.
I haven't worn my watch in a while now. There's something wrong with the strap and I've been using my cellphone as a watch. I'll have to check if I can still make out the numbers on my watch.
@oxyGENE_08 - I look more intelligent.
@CurryPuffy - big, round - "Chinese Charlie Brown".
@Roadkill_Spatula - "geezerhood"? no no no.... (I'm still in denial).
@Dezinerdreams - no one has ever called me sexy before. I'm gonna be staring at the mirror all the time now.
@The_Eyes_Of_A_Painter - I was surprised to see all the big fashion labels on a lot of glasses. It's must be a huge market.
@Fatcat723 - I should buy a spare one. I just know I'm gonna misplace one of these glasses.
@stevew918 - thanks Steve. I have a odd sense of humour.
@yang1815 - hahaha.... I'm always curious.
@TheCheshireGrins - thanks, the guy showed me about a dozen frames before I picked this one.
@Curlyquilter - the credit card receipt in the supermarket has smaller print - it's just crazy. Thanks for asking - we're doing fine and keeping an eye on dad.
@AppsScraps - of course you're not - lol.
@pika_whoosh - really? I gotta go through your blog to see if you have a picture of yourself with those glasses.
@ZSA_MD - I'm gonna have to tie them to my wrists. I am so paranoid about losing these glasses.
@ElusiveWords - I usually tell that with the visuals to go with it -- arm extending then extending farther, etc. sorry I couldn't give you those clues!
@ElusiveWords - http://pika-whoosh.xanga.com/725850300/thursdays-outfit/ seeeeee?
They are in fashion, have been for a while now. Get with the times yo!
Nice glasses!
I wear mine when I drive at night...it's not so bad.
You get the weirdest spam.
hmm... my guess is that you're in your mid 40s? typically when you hit 40 you need to start wearing reading glasses because the lens in your eyes lose the ability to accommodate, and you said you've been wearing reading glasses for a few years now so you must be at least that old! i'm really not looking forward to that point, because then i'll be stuck with bifocals... bleh.
The basketball part got me laughing real hard. I have a lot of friends who are the literal "pumpkinheads", i.e people with pumpkin-sized heads, and I've noticed wearing glasses makes their head look smaller. Lol.
@ElusiveWords - I did lose them once. That's why i have so many pairs now, and everywhere in the house.
@JL789 - I'm still ok for driving w/o glasses.
@Roadkill_Spatula - yeah, they are weird.
@kunhuo42 - I probably will have to wear bifocals / progressive in a couple of years.
@carpe_diem99 - pumpkinhead? lol... I do fit that description.
I've worn glasses most of my life to be able to see long distance.
The last visit to the eye doc, he perscribed bi-focals, and I all but
refused.... ugh, I'm not that old. (yes I am)
I read much much easier now... and my lenses are seamless,
which is nice but I know my eyes are betraying me...
*~matthew~*
@bleuzeus - I'll probably have to get those bifocals in a couple of years.
