  • The business of johns

    I smelled her perfume before she overtook me on the sidewalk.  Her boots were up to her knees and she had a short skirt.  I could see guys staring at her.  She stopped near the corner and one guy immediately came over.  I couldn’t really make out what they were saying.  “How much for…”  “Why don’t you meet me …”.  The guy hadn’t shaved for days and had a serious body odour problem.  Maybe that’s why her perfume was so heavy.  It’ll mask the stench and filth of her clients.

    When I first moved into the neighborhood, I saw them every night.  There would be arguments and screams.  Sometimes I could hear them running on the sidewalk.  Maybe they were chasing a john who tried to rip them off.  But as the ‘hood became more and more gentrified they moved away.  So seeing this one was a bit of a surprise.

    Sometimes I wonder what that lifestyle is like. What drove them to do this?  Were they forced?  I felt sad for them.  Of all the ones I saw, there was only one girl I would describe as pretty.  I only saw her a couple of times.  The rest were at best average looking.  It’s got to be a tough and dangerous life.  I couldn’t do something like this.  But I’ve never been in their situation before.

  • sounds like a great story to be written in there

  • the great tragedy is that some people are just born into this kind of life….the tricking is just the last of the tragic manifestations of the hell they have to endure.

  • it is sad.  and it’s just too difficult to understand and accept the reason behind their decision.  but i’m sure THERE IS a reason, whatever it may be.  the rest of us can only hope that someday, somehow, their life will turn for the better.  for their sake.

  • Last time in New Orleans, I almost became a John, lol.  When I said not interested, she tried to drag me under the stairs and said “complimentary”…, lol  So sad!

  • OK this is the prologue for you story = now go for it!

  • it is sad, because i think most people turn to it in desperation and it’s very hard to escape that life.  it’s too bad they can’t all end up like julia roberts in pretty woman.

  • I loved the way you have written about it Matt. It is sad, but do they think this is sad for them? They probably are so hooked on this that they continue to do the oldest business in the world and bring it to their own sense of perfection; if there is one!

  • i read through several times then the comments… eventually i got it :)

    but no demand no supply XD

  • aw, this is sad.

    @ZSA_MD - good point.

  • I once got on an elevator with a girl who I think was a prostitute. She kept looking at me so I offered her an extra bottle of water I had on my person. She refused the water and instead said, “I want your cock.”

  • Have you ever watched the television show “Secret Diaries of a Call Girl”?  Very good show and enlightening to the world of prostitution!!

  • @buddy71 - I think you’re right.  I’ll have to give this some thought and a bit more imagination.

    @ThePrince - Michael – I’m curious why you think some folks are born into this kind of life?  Do you mean they suffer the same fate as poverty?

    @rudyhou - I think abuse, poverty, drugs, victim of crime, etc… all have a hand.  I guess the ones that are in countries (e.g. Netherlands) are in a better position.

    @npr32486 - yep, sigh…

    @stevew918 - yikes!  That would scare the crap out of me.

    @pika_whoosh - yeah, I know.

    @Fatcat723 - this will need a bit of imagination and creativity (and research).  It is an interesting subject though.

    @kunhuo42 - I was thinking about that movie too.

    @ZSA_MD - I think about those that are forced (either by crime or circumstances) into this profession and the dangers they face.  I think it’s different for those that live in countries where this is legalized.  They might have better protection.

    @lcfu - Oh Fufu… I forgotten about the slangs I use (John is commonly used to describe the “client”).

    @bittersweetreflections - yes it’s sad, thanks for dropping by.

    @supanamja - that must have been a bit of an uncomfortable / awkward moment (it would for me).

    @brooklyn2028 - no I haven’t, I’ll check it out – thanks!

    @yang1815 - I would feel very awkward taking photos.  If they see me I won’t be able to run fast enough.  hahaha…

  • @ElusiveWords - I believe that because of economic disparities and the emotional weight it produces – there will be those that just will not have access to the tools and/or mindsets needed to thrive in life. Instead, whatever blessings they have (in this particular case, feminine beauty), will act more as a hanging rope rather than a means to escape the hole of poverty.

  • @ElusiveWords - Haha…  Next time do a drive-by shooting with camera!
