  • Chickened out

I was roasting some chicken legs the other day.  I usually pull the meat out and use the bones for stock.  I saved most of the meat for my dad and my sister.  This is what I usually do on Sundays.  I try to make one meal and/or one soup (usually Chinese soups) for them.  It saves both of us a bit of time during the weekday.  As I peeled the chicken skin off, I noticed how the skin was nicely browned.  I knew it would taste good.  It was just salt, pepper, garlic powder and a bit of paprika.  I drizzled some olive oil on it as well.  Although I let the chicken rest for about 10 minutes, it was still hot.  Almost all of the fat from the skin was already rendered. I was so tempted to just try one. I just have this weakness for crispy skin – e.g. the crunchy skin from a roast pork

But I’ve been trying to eat healthy foods lately.  I’m not always successful though.  But I knew if I ate the chicken skin it would just go to my waist.  So I use one of the oldest tricks in the book.  If I eat this, my dick will shrink.  shocked  That seemed to do the trick.  My male ego took control and said NO. I just took the skin, bones and used it to make chicken stock.  (I skim the oil off).  I worry though that at my next physical, my doctor will be thinking “I think Matt has been eating a lot of chicken skin.”  Of course she’s too polite to say anything to me.  It doesn’t help that her office is right beside a Kentucky Fried Chicken outlet.

    The evil chicken skin:

Sorry for the juvenile entry.  My brain isn’t functioning properly.

  • Oh I think your brain is functioning properly – anything to help us loose weight – even lying to ourselves!

  • @Fatcat723 - so lying is good!

  • Haha, that’s a new one. Everything in moderation I know I can’t be too healthy or too unhealthy for too long – my body seems to crave either if I am too severe with my diet.

  • But skin’s the best!  Guilty pleasure, myself.

  • Dude… you should have eaten it and then gone for a run or something. Half of the reason why I work out is so I can just eat whatever I want.

  • I LOVE crispy skin!! My favorite is crispy duck skin! We usually blast roast duck in the microwave so all the fat can melt off. Then I bake it in the oven to crisp it back up.

  • I just ate a little bit of the crispy skin of a Kentucky Fried Chicken drumstick. So long as the portion is not too excessive, it’ll be okay!

  • You have amazing self control. I just got late-night McDonalds and after reading your entry and looking at the ‘nom-tastic’ looking chicken skin… I want Asian Fried Chicken now. :]

  • Crispy chicken skin makes your peewee shrink?  I guess I will no more eat any forbidden fruits.

  • Yeah, something you should think about. The fatter your tummy gets, the smaller your package,. And if your not careful, it will end up looking like a turtle head. It will draw into itself when it perceives danger.

  • crispy chicken skin is so tempting….  but i try not to eat it very often as well.  sometimes i’ll compromise… i eat a small piece, but not the whole thing.  i try to find the crispiest part that i can when i do that hahaha.

i love roasting whole chickens, and then taking the bones out to make soup.  i think it makes a much better soup than buying premade broth in the store…  much better flavors.

  • Omg loooooove the crispy skin of roast pork 8] And chicken skin is da besttttttt!

  • LOL I love chicken skin and my dick is still being the great dick that it is… Hahaha

  • hey funny story lol.same thing happened to me.lol.could you do me a favor and comment my blog.

  • I like the crispy chicken skin too. But I forget how long it has been since I cooked the chicken with the skin on.

  • Ha ha ha… oh, the things to worry about in life.

  • interesting trick about the chicken skin, never heard that one before. you have really good self control, and you can cheat once in a while. Just eat everything in moderation and you should be fine. :)

  • i’m salivating as i’m reading this.  yes, nothing comes close to the goodness of the crispy skin of roasted pork.  and i just had some few nights ago.  in moderation, ofcourse :)

  • @stepaside_loser - moderation is good.  I worry about my self control.  It’s like salt – I don’t eat a lot of it but every so often I’ll crave it.

@Roadlesstaken - I agree … that greasy, crunchy, salty skin is the best.

@supanamja - ah yeah…. you’re right.  I better get to the gym soon.

@youngvan - that’s a neat trick to nuke the skin and then put it back in the oven to crisp it back up.   I also like the Peking duck skin… but omg, it’s so sinfully greasy.

@CurryPuffy - I have a hard time picturing you eating KFC after seeing all those food porn you put up.

  • @Devilzgaysianboi - late night McDonald’s?  It’s almost midnight here and I’m getting hungry!

@beowulf222 - just call me Dr. ElusiveWords MD.

@ZSA_MD - I use the skin mainly to prevent the chicken from drying out (if I forget to check).

    @catstemplar2 - and it’ll never come out?  hahaha….

@christao408 - yeah – well, I’m trying to eat healthier.  It’s too bad you don’t live down in the same building.  I could just go over to your place for lunch…. and dinner…. and breakfast.

  • @oxyGENE_08 - hahahaha… Pinoy power for the win!

@kev1nccho1 - I’m getting sleepy looking at your profile pic.  *yawn*

@wannabepinkrocker88 - I’m glad you enjoyed the entry, thanks for dropping in.

@rudyhou - moderation for me is an entire pig (a small one of course).

@icebladz - I think I need to moderate my moderation.

@hilabpartnerxD - I agree… I hate it when people just take the pork skin during dinner.

@kunhuo42 - I do the same thing too with the bones. I even buy the bones from roast pork and use those too.   I saw one TV show where the hostess said you shouldn’t throw out the bones from dinner.  But I get a bit queasy about that, I mean others have sucked the meat out and I don’t want to those bones in my stock.  I know the boiling water will kill all the germs but in my mind, I’ll be able to taste other people’s uhm… flavour.

  • @ElusiveWords - lol lol… i won’t expect anything less from you, matt
