  • Dreaming of Sleep

I saw this in a store window (excuse the reflections on the window).  I have no idea what this poster is about.  But it’s a bit of what I go through when I can’t sleep.  There is this frenzy of thoughts that materialize causing my brain to go into overdrive.   Every single worry, to do, ideas, stray thoughts, what ifs, regrets, fantasies all take their turn in this freeway of uncontrolled brain activity.  Some nights, I’m still awake at 3 AM.  I think I’m going insane.

As I’m writing this, I just realize those “speech balloons” look like bloated sperm.  I wonder what I’ll dream about tonight.

  • What a wonderful metaphoric poster!   Maybe counting the dots would help with the sleep!

  • Sperm? Seriously? Without you mentioning this, I would have *never* seen these bubbles as sperm. Maybe you ask J to spend some private time with you. Don’t forget to put a post-it on him saying, “bf”. You are forgetful after all (cyclops sunglasses! do I need to say more). LOL

  • Or more like tadpoles?  LOL

  • i like the picture. I think it looks like bubbles. :)

  • @stevew918 - ham sup Matt.

    @slmret - hahaha… that’s a good idea.

@beowulf222 - I’m actually a very light sleeper.  When he sleeps with me, I tend to wake up with every movement and sound.  But if I’m exhausted – I will sleep very soundly.

@CurryPuffy - lots of sperm… oh gawd, where is my mind at now?

    @Ikwa - that’s what I thought at first… whew.

  • @ElusiveWords - Didn’t suggest a sleep over. LOL

  • HAHA bloated sperm. I spewed out my drink

  • yeah.  bloated sperms.  exactly my first thought when i first saw them.  how dirty am i? :(

  • What else can you dream about, but food !

  • Maybe switch to dreaming about food.

  • SPERM!!! And coming out of mouths…haha Stop watching too much porn before bed time. lol

  • I love this poster! If I had it I would probably laminate it and use a dry-erase marker to write down all my thoughts and ideas! I want this poster!

  • If I owned that poster, I would probably draw mustaches on all of the little skull-faces, and then fill in the speech balloons with nonsense.

  • Do you have vivid dreams?  I use to have vivid dreams and there were many nights that I couldn’t sleep so I somehow concentrated on telling myself that I’m going to fall asleep soon and that I should think about what I’d like to dream about.  And that I should most importantly tell myself that I’m dreaming, that I’M DREAMING and then to go explore the dreamworld.  It worked a couple times and it was amazing being able to explore the dreamworld fully aware that you’re dreaming.

  •  Sure you weren’t near Spencer’s when you saw this crazy thing ?

They carry strange posters like that.

And if you think those speech bubbles are sperm, I’m no Sigmund Freud, but I am smiling at you right now. *Grin*

  • I go through the same kind of insomnia Matt. I finally shrug and tell myself, at least I am in my bed and not in the hospital tending to a patient in the ER or on the floors.

That poster is so busy. That was a funny thought you had about the speech bubbles.

  • Is it just me or does this look like a bunch of sperm swimming away from sperm purgatory?  Maybe it’s about lost souls…

  • ok just read comments lol anyone who has seen look who’s talking would think those look like sperm haha  Come on now… look up the beginning of the movie.

  • Maybe this artwork was done by an extreme prolife fanatic– unborn souls trying to speak out but unable

  • Overweight sperm… if THAT thought doesn’t put you to sleep, I don’t know what will.

  • Lack of sleep can kill you..increase blood pressure and risk of heart attack and stroke. Have you ever solved any of your problems at night? Then, try your best to go back to sleep and worry about these things in the daylight!

Here are some ideas to help you sleep

    1. Avoid caffeine, alcohol and nicotine in late afternoon and evening

    2. avoid large meals at bedtime

    3. limit liquids in evening

    4. exercise or increase your activity in the afternoons

    5. increase exposure to natural light in the afternoon

    6. remove bright lights, loud noises and uncomfortable bedroom temps

    7. practice a daily relaxing bedtime routine..(look up on the net: relaxation techniques, biofeedback, guided imagery)

    8. avoid spending too much time in bed

    9. use bedroom for sleep/sex only

    10. avoid daytime napping, esp after 2 pm

    11. try yoga or tai chi

    12. look up tips to reduce stress on mayoclinic.com

    13. look at Tranquility is yours for relaxation exercises

    14. hws.edu/studentlife/counseling-relax.asp

Good luck. If all fails, talk to your pastor, priest or rabbi or professional counselor. Buy some soft music CD’s and put them on your mp3 player and listen to them when you awaken at night. Practice progressive relaxation of your entire body.

    Good night!!!

  • Yet, we still want to live on.

I haven’t had a vivid sexual dream in ages – I dreamed about looking down a cliff face last night – odd lol.

  • now i can’t un-see the sperm…

when i can’t sleep at night, i turn on some rain background noises lol

  • @greatredwoman - thank you for those tips.  I do try to shut down my caffeine after 2PM.  I haven’t found a good relaxation routine yet before bedtime. I think I’ll have to try a few more different things.

@sturslug - I bring the laptop to bed with me now so I can have those rain / wave noise.  But I also use it (mostly reading or writing) and I know the brightness doesn’t help me fall asleep.
