  • It’s been absolutely relaxing to have the last couple of weeks off.   I’ve forgotten what it was like to sleep in for days at a time.  I’ve been waking up lately around 9:30ish and actually feel refreshed for a change.  I knew I was running on fumes the past few months and I felt really drained heading into the Christmas break.

    Christmas dinners at dad’s and with my brother’s extended family went relatively well.  At one of the dinners with my brother’s extended family, they were also celebrating the birth of a new baby boy.  He had beautiful blue eyes and looked fragile as he was only 7 days old.   He was born early so the parents were very careful with him.  Out of the corner of my eye, I saw my dad staring at the baby.  He was asking the usual questions about the baby which surprised me.  He was also watching the grandmother hold the baby as well.  I couldn’t help but feel a bit disappointed.  I had hoped that he and my mom would one day hold my child.  I know they did but they have never mentioned that to me before.  I didn’t dwell on it though and just enjoyed the meal.

    I also enjoyed a great meal at my bf’s place over the holidays and got to play with the kids.  Actually it was just the baby I got to play with which was fine with me.  The older ones were busy with their computer games and/or TV.  I was so mesmerized watching the little one solve a two sided jigsaw puzzle.  He can do it with a bit of coaching.  When he goes home, he gives everyone a hug and a peck on the cheek.  Sometimes it’s a wet, sloppy kiss prompting howls of laughter and much face wiping.  But this time, it was just a nice, gentle little *smack*.

     The only downside to this break is that I’ve caught a cold.  Thankfully there’s no body aches or fever but my throat feels like the primary battle ground for this virus.  I’ve been taking medication, herbal tea, tea with honey, lemon … I’ve also got the humidifier set on high.  I just hope this goes away soon.  It sort of put a damper on New Year’s Eve with my bf.  Instead of going out, he brought over some take out Vietnamese food and we just had a quiet evening.   He still rolls his eyes when I take food pictures though.

     Roast lamb made by my sister.

    Prime rib from my brother.

    Take out Vietnamese food.  The rice was a bit cold by the time we got to eat it.  But we were so hungry it didn’t matter.  We had some sparkling wine at midnight.

  • I love vietnamese food !!! yum yum !! XD

  • Haha. Hopefully the reason behind the food being cold wasn’t because
    of the picture taking. I hope you get better soon :P . Everybody seems
    to be getting sick these days.

  • Hope you get better soon. Happy New Year!

  • The flu has hit in our area. So I am into the tea more frequently during the day. I think having a meal together at home with a little bubbly is a romantic way to ring in the New Year. Hope you feel better. I go back to work on Monday and I am not ready!

  • yum, that looks great!  my bf took his mom and i out for new year’s eve dinner to this french bistro…  it was delicious!  sorry, no food pics again…

  • feel better soon! after my hospital incident i am paranoid about getting sick.

  • I know I say this a lot, but you’re food pictures always make me hungry.
    And to be honest, I’ve just eaten. Ha. Happy New Year Mate,

    be well, *~matthew~*

  • The food looks great. I am glad you had such a nice time with your brother and his extended family along with your dad. Take care of the cold Matt. This is the last time I want to hear about your cold, this year. I mean it. Happy new year darling.

  • @zozoyork - mmm… there’s so much more to it than Pho.

    @Devilzgaysianboi - hahaha – it wasn’t from picture taking.  I’m sure I caught it from one of those Christmas dinners.

    @Dezinerdreams - thank you and Happy New Year to you too!

    @Fatcat723 - it was a nice way to ring in the new year.  Have fun on Monday.  I don’t go back until Wednesday although I’ve been checking up on my emails since yesterday.

    @kunhuo42 - no food pics again…    (sniff… boo hoo… wah!!!)

    @ABSOLUTmichael - I don’t blame you for being paranoid.

    @bleuzeus - my bf just cringes when I take my carmera out during dinner.  My dad wonders what I do with all my food pics.

    @ZSA_MD - I will, I’m having some tea right now and will have some herbal tea w/ ginger later on.

  • food looks good. For your cold, you have to try Nasal irrigation.  Just cover the bottom of a mug or cup with warm water, dissolving the salt to make salt water.  Then gently inhale water through one nostril at a time until it goes through your throat or out your other nostril.  It’s washes out the nasal cavity where cold bacteria gets lodged in.  Think of it like tears.  Tears are salty for a reason because they cleanse impurities.  It’s why tear ducts are connected with the nasal cavities,  It may sound gross, but it’s perfectly natural.  I do it about two times a day for two or three days until the sore throat leaves:

  • If you hoped that your dad would someday hold your child, does that mean you were planning on telling them you were gay? Or were you going to sort of fake a story (that your wife left you with the baby, or something like that)? I find it so complicated to lie, so I guess, in that case, the truth would have to be told.

    That prime rib looks devine.

  • @alchemystfury - my cousin uses this a lot when he has sinus problems.  Thanks for the reminder.  I just tried it a couple of times and it seems to help.

    @stepaside_loser - I think I was just doing some wishful thinking.  I know how much they (especially my mom) doted over babies when friends or relatives visit.

  • it’s also good for casino trips = p  so much smoking

  • Food looks good. I hope you get better soon.

  • @mmmagination - thanks… this is one stubborn cold.

  • Why do I think that you and your boyfriend would make wonderful parents?

  • I knew someone that when he had a baby, his parents lost focus on him being gay and just coddled the baby. I don’t know how he had it (surrogacy, adoption, who knows) but they were so thrilled that he procreated, it made his Coming Out easier. Of course they kept trying to find him a wife nonetheless.

    No kids for me thanks. I really like kids, but only when they belong to someone else.

  • I usually get sick, either cold or somehting (back pain usually) when I have a long break  and have no plan during that time…..anyway get well soon!  the meat dishes look yummy!

  • seems that’s always the way eh Matt…. we stop running for a bit and our body takes its revenge in the form of a cold.

    Hope you’re better!

  • I spent all of New Year’s Eve playing with the kids.  I seem to fit in more with them.  LOL
    Happy New Year.

  • ryc: I’m jealous of you. I wish I could sleep at 2 :P

    and as for the milk… would (chocolate) soymilk be a good substitute. I dont really like milkmilk

  • FOOD PRON!!!

    Especially when I am so hungry!

  • @christao408 - awww… thanks.

    @agmhkg - well, thankfully this cold is beginning to fade.

    @AppsScraps - on the road to recovery – thanks.

    @CareyGLY - I’ve said this before – you’re just a big kid.

    @Devilzgaysianboi - don’t be jealous, I had trouble sleeping last night.

    @whonose - is that your tummy growling?

  • Love the prime rib! I’m recovering as well….from jet-lag. Hope your throat is feeling better by now! Happy New Year!
