  • Life

    Oncologist (noun):  doctors who seldom have good news.

    I hope someday more and more oncologists can deliver good news.

    It’s hard to enjoy life right now.  There are pockets of good times that I cherish and that’s about it.  Inevitably something bad always follows every time I have a small moment of happiness or time to catch my breath.  Life is like that I suppose.  There’s nothing you can do but to suck it up and endure.

    Peace.

  • I hope more good news will come along!

  • Stay strong buddy!

  • Take a deep breath, get out and enjoy yourself for an hour or two — life will look better!

  • You are a champion.  Each day will bring another victory, even if a small one.

  • So get out there and enjoy the day! Good news is good news and to be celebrated.

  • I hope you can have a few minutes to meditate or empty your mind and de-stress. You may not have the time, but have you looked into mindfulness classes/CDs? I know someone who thought they were really helpful, but he wasn’t dealing with the same stressors. Best wishes!

  • @CurryPuffy - I hope so but I’m not really that optimistic.

    @Roadlesstaken - I will – thanks Alex.

    @slmret - I went out briefly today for groceries and the walk was actually relaxing.

    @cyberbear - thanks, appreciate the kind words.

    @Fatcat723 - dad could use a lot more good news.

    @Senlin - thanks Senlin! I try to clear my mind before I sleep but I don’t usually have a lot of luck.  I’ll have to look into those CDs.

  • yeah i can totally relate. Hope you’re dad is doing ok.

  • all the best XD

  • That’s sadly true.

  • You know how to reach me.

  • I may not be here that much any more but my thoughts go out to you!

  • Dearest Matt:

    I’m so glad that xanga mails notes when you write–it keeps me aware of your writing here.

    This note sounds like there’s serious stuff.  You have my best wishes for rest, and for time being held by someone close to you.

    (in hopes of a brighter moment, did you follow the video clip about being Canadian?  I just happened upon it–the performers (A and J) were very clever, it was a funny piece.)

    Bless you, Matt.

  • actually, that definition belongs to neurologists, who have always been doctors who can only diagnose, but rarely treat or cure problems.  it is a good reminder for me of how much we have yet to learn, and why i do what i do.

    hopefully more good news comes your way!

  • Where’s your camera Matt? get it out and go for a stroll. You will find something to smile about.

  • I’m sorry Matt… It must be really hard right now.

    You’re strong, smart and sweet. Good things will happen…  :(

    I wish I could really offer you a hug.

  • lots of hugs for you in my thoughts.  sweet moments mean nothing without the existence of bitterness.  we hate them bitter moments, yes, but they are there as a reminder that life is about the little things and the little positive moments that made this journey of a life worth the while.  i know you have the stamina to face this ordeal.  don’t loose yourself in the cloud of all things negative.  just remember that you do have a support team.  your partner, your family members, your friends, and last but not least, your fellow xangans.

  • @Closure_Theory - thank you for the kind words and for dropping in.

    @lcfu - thanks Fufu, I hope you’re doing well in your travels.

    @oxyGENE_08 - salamat po Gene!

    @yang1815 - hey Andy, thanks and take care.

    @brooklyn2028 - Hi Sheldon – thanks for dropping by, appreciate the kind thoughts.  Hope to see you around here more often.

    @mbpasadena - Mark – long time no see!  I’m glad you’re still around.  Your blog was kinda silent so I thought you had stopped writing.
    I haven’t seen that video but will check it out.  Thank you.

    @kunhuo42 - I hope so too Aaron.  In one of the appointments, there was a researcher that was working with dad’s oncologist.  I thought of you and wondered what your work might be similar.  I’m glad you’re on this path; your talent and wisdom will help others.

    @ZSA_MD - smiles & laughter are a bit tough to come by these days.  So I cherish those even more.   I should take the camera out for a stroll.

    @Devilzgaysianboi - aww… thanks for the really nice thoughts Kevin.

    @agmhkg - thank you Angel.

    @rudyhou - you’re right Rudy.  I should lose perspective and let the negativity shroud my days.   Thanks for the support.

  • I’m sorry to hear things are bad, Matt :( You’ve done a lot for your dad and there’s only so much you can do. I hope it all works out.

  • me too. (regarding your first two statements)  hug. i know, it’s hard to wonder if you can get your hopes up. i hope you and your dad are ok.  and thanks for your comment. he was pretty much a jerk.

  • Peace back atcha!

  • @stepaside_loser - thanks Andrew, I have to stay positive and optimistic.  As much as I hide my moods from him, I think he can sense when I’m uneasy or nervous around him.

    @caki730 - I thought about you and your goal to become an oncologist.  It’s a tough field and I hope every oncologist / researcher will help move the ball forward more and more until we find a cure.

    @CareyGLY - thanks Carey.

  • Just read a story about magic ring engraved with the words ”this, too, shall pass” that the wearer could use as a charm to help sadness disappear and happiness to fade more slowly.

  • @christao408 - I think a ring like that would be treasured and guarded zealously by most men.  But a wise man would be quick to share it.

  • You’ll be alright, keep on as you can, as you’ve always done. I’m sorry that all I have are words, but you can do this, and you’ll be fine in the end.

  • @AzureRecollections - I appreciate your words of support.  Words are powerful.  I’m blessed to have a regular gang of subscribers where I can draw support and inspiration from.
